For Stevens Point locals in the US, the city is flooded with delicious fried fish. Here are four top choices for the community to have a try.
Hilltop Pub&Grill
Hilltop Pub&Grill first opened in the 1980s and took the Stevens Point community by storm with its delicious food and unique decoration style. Its fried fish are beloved due to the use of “high-quality North Atlantic fish, with a light beer batter (面糊)”.
The Final Score Bar&Grill
The Final Score Bar&Grill aimed to become a local hot spot in 2001 when Jim Billings, the owner, took charge of the business. Billings feels that their five batter choices set them apart from their neighboring bars. Besides, various wines are available.
Point After Pub&Grill
Point After Pub&Grill started serving delicious food and cold beers in a welcoming environment in 2009. But its history runs much longer. “Before it was Point After Pub&Grill, it had been Northside Bar for 30 plus years,” explained Molski, the owner. Molski feels that the pub’s four special batter choices and other fish specials are what help make it an area landmark.
Two Harps Pub
This Irish pub opened its doors to the public in 2017 and has been drawing fans and locals ever since. “I had done my career for a long time and was kind of bored with it,” said Nick Moore, the owner. “And this opportunity fell into my lap, so I went with it. It really made sense to open up an Irish bar.” The growing pub advises guests to try a cold beer with their Friday fried fish.

Paris is the city of dreams. If you plan to head to Paris for a study period, then perhaps a little reality check is in order. But my experience was a romantic one.
I paved my path to Paris through an exchange program. On arrival in Paris, I was constantly reminded of the official processes I had to complete — forms to be filled in, meetings to attend, the list seemed endless.
Then the real work began. Once classes were underway, I found myself volunteering to do oral presentations and assignments first, rather than last. This method proved to be very helpful.
Once I had finished class for the week I had an ever-increasing list of museums to visit, neighborhoods to explore, and cafes to sit in. Read books about Paris. Talk to locals and other foreigners living there. But the one thing that reading a book or talking to someone cannot do is to provide you with the experience of wandering Paris on foot. The people watching, the sounds of the city, the colors as the seasons change, they all add to the ecstasy that I experience in Paris as an exchange student.
After spending five months wandering through the charming neighborhoods, I fell in love with the atmosphere that came out from every open door, and with every spoken word. There is something comforting about walking to the market each Sunday to enjoy the beautiful display of fruits, vegetables and dairy products. There is warmth in saying bon jour to the passers-by.
On my last day in Paris, I confidently said, " Bonjour Monsieur," as I passed the little store down the street. I guess the best part about going on exchange in Paris is falling in love with the city in your own way. And I know mine is unique and special to me, my own little pieces of Paris.
4. What does the underlined word "ecstasy" in Paragraph 4 probably mean
A. Courage. B. Happiness. C. Imagination. D. Reputation.
5. What does the passage mainly tell us
A. A traveling experience. B. An exchange program
C. Charming neighborhoods. D. An exchange student's life.
6. Beyond reading books, which experience would the author treasure most
A Hanging around in Paris. B. Buying vegetables in the market
C. Enjoying coffee in his spare time. D. Greeting people in French in the street.
7. According to the passage, what left the author the deepest impression
A. The presentations he did in class. B. The friendly people he met in Paris.
C. The special culture he experienced in the city. D. The academic achievement he made in his study.
B 5. D 6. A 7. C
根据作者对在巴黎街上漫步的喜爱及第四段中的“The people watching, the sounds of the city, the colors as the seasons change, they all add to the ecstasy that I experience in Paris as an exchange student.(观看的人群,城市的声音,季节变换的颜色,都增加了我作为交换学生在巴黎体验的ecstasy)”可知,人们的注视,城市的声音,季节变化时的色彩,都增加了作者作为交换生体验巴黎的喜悦。 A. Courage.勇气;B. Happiness.幸福;C. Imagination.想象力;D. Reputation.
根据第一段中“But my experience was a romantic one.(但我的经历很浪漫)”和第二段中“I paved my path to Paris through an exchange program.(我通过一个交换项目来到了巴黎)”可知,作者作为一名交换生来到巴黎,他认为自己的巴黎之行非常浪漫。
根据第四段中“the one thing that reading a book or talking to someone cannot do is to provide you with the experience of wandering Paris on foot.(有一件事是读书或与人交谈所做不到的,那就是让你有徒步漫游巴黎的体验)”可知,读书以及和人交谈无法提供步行在巴黎闲逛带给你的体验。 故选A。
根据最后一段中“On my last day in Paris, I confidently said, " Bonjour Monsieur," as I passed the little store down the street. I guess the best part about going on exchange in Paris is falling in love with the city in your own way. And I know mine is unique and special to me, my own little pieces of Paris.(在巴黎的最后一天,当我经过沿街的小商店时,我自信地说:“Bonjour Monsieur”在。我猜在巴黎交流最棒的部分就是用你自己的方式爱上这个城市。这样的经历对我来说是独一无二的,是我自己对巴黎的感受)”由此判断出,给作者留下最深的印象是他在巴黎体验到了不同的风土人情,不同的文化。故选C。
C
“We are running out of space and the only places to go to are other worlds… Spreading out may be the only thing that saves us from ourselves. I’m convinced that humans need to leave Earth.” These are the words of the famous scientist Stephen Hawking, spoken at a science festival in Norway in 2017, a year before his death.
Hawking was not alone in this view. Many experts feel that the only way for humanity to last far into the future is to colonize(移民于) other planets. That way, if a terrible disease, nuclear war or some other disaster strikes Earth, civilization as we know it would still have a chance. Mars is one of the most attractive destinations. NASA, the United Arab Emirates, the private company SpaceX, and the organization Mars One all have plans to send humans there. “Either we spread Earth to other planets, or we risk going extinct,” SpaceX founder Elon Musk said at a conference in 2013.
But not everyone agrees that colonizing Mars or any other planet is such a great plan. The most common argument against going is that it’s just too expensive or dangerous. It will take huge amounts of money and other resources just to get people there, let alone set up a place for them to live. It’s not even clear if humans could survive on Mars. One of the biggest dangers there is deadly radiation that ruins the planet.
Maybe all the time and money people would pour into a Mars mission would be better spent on more urgent projects here on Earth, like dealing with poverty or climate change. Some experts argue that handling a problem like an asteroid(小行星) strike or disease outbreak while staying here on Earth would be much easier and less expensive than surviving on a new planet.
In addition, moving to a new planet could harm or destroy anything that already lives there. Mars seems uninhabited, but it could possibly host micro-organism like. Human visitors may destroy this life or permanently change or damage the Martian environment. Some feel that’s too much of a risk to take.
8. Why did the author mention NASA, the United Arab Emirates, SpaceX and Mars One
A. To stress the risk of dying out on Earth.
B. To provide evidence for Hawking’s theory.
C. To show growing intention of moving to Mars.
D. To explain the advanced technology in astronomy.
9. What can we learn from the passage
A. It is costly and risky to colonize Mars.
B. Civilization is difficult to maintain on Earth.
C. Poverty is the most urgent problem to handle.
D. All the time and money should be spent on Earth.
10. What does the underlined word “uninhabited” mean in the last paragraph
A. not steady to keep. B. not fit to live on.
C. not easy to approach. D. not safe to set foot on.
11. Which of the following can be the best title for the text
A. Mars, Our Future Planet.
B. Moving to A New Planet.
C. Should We Colonize Mars
D. Stay Home or Outer Space
C 9. A 10. B 11. C

根据第二段中“Many experts feel that the only way for humanity to last far into the future is to colonize other planets. (许多专家认为,人类要想在未来生存下去,唯一的办法就是移民其他行星)”以 及“Mars is one of the most attractive destinations. NASA, the United Arab Emirates, the private company SpaceX, and the organization Mars One all have plans to send humans there .(火星是最吸引人的目的地之一。NASA, United Arab Emirates, SpaceX 以及Mars One 都有把人送往火星的计划),可知,这么多机构都计划着让人类移民火星,也就是表明了不断增长的移民火星的意图,故选C。
【9题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段中“The most common argument against going is that it’s just too expensive or dangerous. (反对去火星的最常见的理由是去那太贵,太危险了)”可知,移民去火星太贵太有风险了,故选A。
【10题详解】
词句猜测题。根据最后一段中“Mars seems uninhabited, but it could possibly host micro-organism like. (火星似乎uninhabited,但是它可能给微生物提供生存之地)”可知,“but”后表明火星可以提供给微生物生存之地,难么“but”前说明火星可能无法提供生存的地方,也就是火星可能是不适合生存或居住的,故选B。
【11题详解】
主旨大意题。文章第一段Stephen Hawking的话中“Spreading out may be the only thing that saves us from ourselves. (探索外界可能是拯救我们自身的唯一途径)”,引出话题,我们可能需要去其他星球来拯救我们自己。文章第二段中“Many experts feel that the only way for humanity to last far into the future is to colonize other planets. (许多专家认为,人类要想在未来生存下去,唯一的办法就是移民其他行星) ”表明很多专家支持移民火星的计划。文章第三段中“But not everyone agrees that colonizing Mars or any other planet is such a great plan. (但并不是每个人都同意,向火星或其他任何行星移民是一个伟大的计划)”,紧接着在第三段和第四段分析了移民火星的代价和危害,综合这些段落可知,整篇文章就是讲了我们是不是要移民火星,选项C“Should We Colonize Mars ”我们应该移民火星吗?
D
When we look at a lovely baby, a puppy or a really cute kitten many of us want to squeeze it. Why is that
According to a study published in the journal Frontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience, it’s a typical experience of “cute aggression”. The experience results from the fight between the brain’s “emotion system”, which impels (驱使) people to squeeze cute things, and its “reward system” which deals with feelings of “wanting”.
In the study, 54 participants between the ages of 18 and 40 were presented with four groups of photos. Two of the groups of photos were of cute human babies and animals and the other two were of less adorable adult humans and animals. As the participants looked at the photos, there searchers watched their brain activities.
According to the researchers, the participants reward systems were found to be active as they looked at the cute babies, and they seemed to be overwhelmed(征服的). By contrast, the reward systems of the people looking at the less cute adults were found to be inactive, and they seemed to be less impelled by their reward systems.
This suggests that cute things activate their emotion systems in such a way that people are overwhelmed by the experience of cuteness. But reward systems work against these emotions by creating the desire to protect cute things.
As Katherine Stavropoulos, the lead researcher of this study at the University of California in the US told Science Alert, “The cute aggression is the brain’s way of ‘bringing us back down’ by balancing our feelings of being overwhelmed.”
Stavropoulos compared this process of balancing to an evolutionary adaptation. Such an adaptation may have taken place to ensure that people are able to continue taking care of creatures they consider particularly cute.
So, although cute babies and adorable animals may look completely helpless, their vulnerable( 易受伤害的) appearance may in fact help them to survive.
12. According to the text, “cute aggression” refers to .
A. the emotion of wanting to protect cute things
B. the task of emotion system and reward system
C. the adaptation of consistently taking care of cute creatures
D. the behavior of squeezing a cute baby or animal when seeing it
13. In nature, “cute aggression” is caused by .
A. the need of the brain to balance all feelings
B. the photos of cute human babies and animals
C. the vulnerable appearance of babies or animals
D. the conflict between emotion system and reward system
14. Which of the following statements about the study is TRUE
A. Facial expressions of the participants were observed.
B. Katherine Stavropoulos conducted this study on her own.
C. Cute babies and animals affected brain activities of all the participants.
D. The participants were divided into two groups in order to make comparison.
15. What is the author's purpose in writing this text
A. To persuade readers to protect cute animals.
B. To stress the significance of cute aggression.
C. To present research findings on cute aggression.
D. To share an interesting phenomenon with readers
D 13. D 14. C 15. C

When we look at a lovely baby, a puppy or a rally cute kitten many of us want to squeeze it.“当我们看到可爱的婴儿、小狗或拉力赛可爱的小猫时,我们很多人都想捏它。”
The experience results from the fight between the brain’s “emotion system”, which impels (驱使) people to squeeze cute things, and its “reward system” which deals with feelings of “wanting”.“这种体验来自于大脑的“情感系统”和“奖励系统”之间的斗争,前者促使人们挤压可爱的东西,后者处理“想要”的感觉。”
According to the researchers, the participants reward systems were found to be active as they looked at the cute babies, and they seemed to be overwhelmed(征服的).“研究人员称,当参与者看着可爱的婴儿时,他们的奖励系统被发现是活跃的,而且他们似乎不知所措。”
As Katherine Stavropoulos, the lead researcher of this study at the University of California in the US told Science Alert, “The cute aggression is the brain’s way of ‘bringing us back down’ by balancing our feelings of being overwhelmed.”

上文“That is exactly the reason why girls usually spend hours shopping after a terrible break-up.(这正是女孩在一次可怕的分手后通常会花几个小时去购物的原因)”以及下文“Therefore, shopping helps overcome depression.(因此,购物有助于克服抑郁)”说明购物可以使女生忘记烦恼重新快乐起来,故对抗抑郁有益处。 G项“It is something that makes them happy and helps them forget their worries and problems.(它使她们快乐,帮助她们忘记她们的忧虑和问题)”和上文女孩为了忘记分手的痛苦而去购物,购物使他们开心一致,同时也符合下文购物有助于抗抑郁之意。故选G项。
上文“it is good to reward yourself occasionally with all those things you fancy.(偶尔用你喜欢的东西来奖励自己是好的)”说明购物是个自我奖励的好方法。

But its history runs much longer. “Before it was Point After Pub&Grill, it had been Northside Bar for 30 plus years,” explained Molski, the owner. Molski feels that the pub’s four special batter choices and other fish specials are what help make it an area landmark.
Two Harps Pub
This Irish pub opened its doors to the public in 2017 and has been drawing fans and locals ever since. “I had done my career for a long time and was kind of bored with it” said Nick Moore, the owner.

Once I had finished class for the week, I had an ever-increasing list of museums to visit, neighborhoods to explore, and cafes to sit in.
6. Beyond reading books, which experience would the author treasure most
A. Hanging around in Paris.
