An early morning winter storm had brought several inches of snow in my small town in the mountains.Schools were canceled, roads were dangerous and all I wanted to do was to stay in bed.Still,I knew I had to
get the day started so I put on warm clothes and walked outside. The snow got all over my shoes. The cold wind dried my lips and my eyes. My 47-year-old back ached in anticipation(预想)of the shoveling(铲雪)I would have to do if the snow didn't stop soon.
Yet, when I looked out on the white blanket that covered the ground,I couldn't help but smile a bit. It
was so beautiful. It softened the bare trees and hid the dead grass. In the distance I could hear the sound of
the snowplow on the road, the barking of a happy dog and the laughter of children playing outside, enjoying
their way off from school.
The sweet music of that laughter brought back a hundred memories of winters past. I remembered
catching snowflakes(雪花)on my tongue, building snowmen, making snow angles, running down hills and
always losing snowball fights with first my brothers and then my own children.Standing there in that
warmcoat of memories made the wind a little less cold and my back a little less sore. I turned up my head,
stuck out my tongue and for the first time in years caught a snowflake on it. It tasted so fresh and clean.
It tasted like youth, like joy and like love.
May you always feel young in spirit, no matter how old or achy your body may be. May you always
delight in the simple joys of life. May you always share your happiness with the hearts of children. And
may you always give your love, your light, your laughter and your warmth to others even on the coldest
days.
4. What was the author's first reaction when he knew it snowed heavily?
A.He was upset. B.He was happy. C.He was thankful. D.He was moved.
5. From the underlined sentence in Paragraph l,we can know that
A.my back ached because of the cold weather.
B.I didn't want to start my day on such a snowy day.
C.my back would ache upon thinking of cleaning up the snow.
D.the snow didn't stop and I felt too cold.
6. From which senses did the author describe the joy of having snow?
A.Taste and smell. B.Sight and smell.
C.Smell, hearing and taste. D.Sight, hearing and taste.
7. What does the author mainly want to tell us with this article?
A.Appreciate every snowstorm you spend with your family.
B.Snow brings both fun and trouble.
C.Memories can change our opinion.
D.We should stay young at heart.

In the old days, when you had to drive to a movie theater to get some entertainment,it was easy to see how your actions could have an impact(影响)on the environment. After all,you were jumping into your car,
driving across town, coughing out emissions(产生排放)and using gas all the way. But now that we're used
to staying at home and streaming movies,we might get a little proud. After all,we're just picking up our
phones and maybe turning on the TV.You're welcome.Mother Nature.
Not so fast, says a recent report from the French-based Shift Project.According to "Climate Crisis:The
Unsustainable Use of Online Video",digital technologies are responsible for 4% of greenhouse gas emissions,
and that energy use is increasing by 9% a year.Watching a half-hour show would cause 1.6 kilograms of
carbon dioxide emissions. That's like driving 6.28 kilometers. And in the European Union, the Eureca project
found that data centers (where videos are stored) there used 25% more energy in 2017 compared to just three years earlier, reports the BBC.
Streaming is only expected to increase as we become more enamored of our digital devices(设备)and the possibility of enjoying entertainment where and when we want it increases.Online video use is
expected to increase by four times from 2017 to 2022 and account for 80% of all Internet traffic by 2022. By
then, about 60% of the world's population will be online.
You're probably not going to give up your streaming services, but there're things you can do to help
lessen the impact of your online use, experts say. For example, according to Lutz Stobbe, a researcher from
the Fraunhofer Institute in Berlin,we have no need to upload 25 pictures of the same thing to the cloud
because it consumes energy every time.If instead you delete a few things here and there, you can save
energy. Moreover,it's also a good idea to stream over Wi-Fi,watch on the smallest screen you can,and turn offyour Wi-Fi in your home if you're not using your devices.
8. What topic is the first paragraph intended to lead in?
The environmental effects of driving private cars.
B.The improvements on environmental awareness.
C.The change in the way people seek entertainment.
D.The environmental impacts of screaming services.
What does the underlined phrase "become more enamored of" in paragraph 3 probably mean?
Get more skeptical of. B.Become more aware of.
C.Feel much crazier about. D.Get more worried about.
What can we infer about the use of streaming services?
It is being reduced to protect the planet. B.Its environmental effects are worsening.
C.It is easily available to almost everyone. D.Its side effects have drawn global attention.
Which of the following is the most environmentally-friendly?
A.Watching downloaded movies on a mobile phone.
B.Downloading music on a personal computer.
C.Uploading a lot of images of the same thing.
D.Playing online games over mobile networks.
D
Nostalgia(怀旧)has become increasingly common in our current climate of accelerated, unexpected
change.More and more Americans are turning back with longing to what feels like simpler, sweeter times.
They collect cassette tapes, manual typewriters even decades-old video games.
Is it a mistake to get too obsessed with the past? Some psychologists warn that too much devotion
to the so-called good old days is an escape from reality;it can indicate loneliness or that a person is
having a difficult time coping in the present.Psychologist Stephanie Coontz argues that nostalgia distracts us from addressing the problems of modern life and contribute to anxiety, depression, insomnia etc.
But new studies suggest that a modest dose of nostalgia is not only harmless, but actually beneficial. They
suggest it helps strengthen our sense of identity and makes us feel more optimistic and inspired. It is also a tool for self — discovery and memories are a psychological immune response that is triggered when you
want to take a break from negativity.Interestingly, those happy memories can be particularly beneficial both to kids in their teens and to society's elders.Recalling our childhood reminds us of "the times when we were accepted and loved unconditionally," says Krystine Batcho,a psychologist. "That is such a powerfully comforting phenomenon, knowing that there was a time in life when we didn't have to earn our love." Nostalgia can transform even the most ordinary past into legends which warms the heart and the body.Let's not forget that nostalgia has been a source of inspiration to innumerable American writers.Mark Twain recalled his boyhood, writing,"after all these years,I can picture that old time to myself now, just as it was then:The white town
drowsing in the sunshine of a summer's morning."
So go ahead, daydream a little about your best childhood friend, your first car,a long - gone family pct.As Dr.Sedikides says,"Nostalgia is absolutely central to human experience." But at the same time, keep these
words of wisdom from the great inventor Charles Kettering in mind as well:"You can't have a better
tomorrow if you are thinking about yesterday all the time. "
12. What did some psychologists in paragraph 2 probably agree?
Nostalgia will cause some mental problems.
B.Nostalgia makes us devoted to the good old days.
C.Nostalgia shows you are trying to get rid of loneliness.
D.Nostalgia helps us cope with the difficult time we are going through.
13. There are many benefits of nostalgia except
A.It can enable us to know ourselves better.
B.It can bring us some comfort when we recall.
C.We are likely to gain attention if we recall the happy childhood.
D.We can sometimes break away from negativity with happy memories.
14. What will be talked about in the following paragraph?
A.The bad influence of too much devotion to nostalgia.
B.The reasons why we should avoid nostalgia.
C.The bad memories that always stick around you.
D.The great changes nostalgia will bring to you.
15. What's the best title of the passage?
A.We all have a soft spot for nostalgia.
B.Nostalgia is actually good for you.
C.Don't be carried away by nostalgia.
D.There are many times when we like to recall.

Arthur was messy. He didn't try to make messes, neither did he try to clean up much. His socks never made it into the hamper (洗衣篮). And he only picked up his toys when Mom threatened to throw them
away. Most days, Mom followed Arthur around the house and cleaned up after him. She brushed the crumbs(碎屑) into her hand and threw them away after meals. She picked up his socks and made sure they got
washed, dried and folded neatly before going back in the drawer.
One day, Mom asked Arthur to pick up his toy trains. He was reading a comic book and he was still
reading, saying nothing. The trains had been on the living room floor since the morning.
"You know what, Arthur? I'm not going to ask you again. I'm done cleaning today." And with that. Mom put her feet up on the sofa and picked up a book to read.
At dinner time, Arthur noticed that there was a big pile of crumbs at his place at the table. After dinner,Arthur's feet felt cold. He went to his room and opened his drawer, but the drawer was empty. "Mom,where are my socks?" Arthur called.
"There weren't any socks in your hamper, so I didn't wash them," Mom said. Arthur felt unhappy. Now his feet would be cold, unless he wanted to wear dirty socks from the floor. He decided to stay barefoot.
When it was time for bed, Arthur said good night to Mom and turned to go upstairs. Arthur stepped right on his toy train in his bare feet. "Ouch!" cried Arthur. "That really hurt !"

gym next month. It includes many events, such as the high jump, the long jump, the shot put, track and field,
the relay race, the javelin and so on.Without doubt, passion can be well felt apart from strength in the

第二节
He turned to mom for help, however, Mom was still reading and said nothing. Arthur wasn't sure if she had heard him or not so he called for help again, but still Mom didn't come Then Arthur realized maybe it was he that could solve his problem at that very moment. He quietly picked up the toy train and put it in the box. It only took a minute for him to put the toy away, and now he wouldn't have to worry about hurting his feet again.
Having put away the toy train, he caught sight of the dirty socks. "Mom?" said Arthur. "Tomorrow can you show me how to do the laundry so I can wash my socks?" "Of course." said Mom. "It's nice to see you begin to learn to take care of yourself. I am always here to do whatever I can to help you become a more independent boy." Arthur felt better. He didn't want to wait until the next laundry day to have clean socks again. Maybe being neat wasn't so hard after all.
