When school started on that warm August day, I threw myself into everything I did, including playing volleyball. I decided to become beautiful, or at the very least, skinny. I stopped eating completely. Soon I began losing weight, which thrilled me, and I even grew to love the tiredness that came with my poor diet, for those feelings meant that I was winning.
As the season progressed, things had become tense between my head volleyball coach, Coach Smith, and me. She felt that something was wrong with my health. She talked with me about my eating and was angry that I wouldn't listen to her when she tried to make me eat. She tried to persuade me in a determined way and so we fought constantly. Then my hunger started to affect my performance.
A couple of weeks later I attended a formal dinner for our volleyball team. I stood there as my coach managed to say something nice about me. I realized then that I had ruined my senior year by being disrespectful, and I had probably ruined hers as well. So that evening I wrote her a letter apologizing and thanking her.
Then one Saturday, as I was reading in the library, I felt someone gently take my arm and say softly, ” Lynn Jones, how are you doing " I looked up and saw the familiar face. ''Thanks for the letter,", she said. “It meant a lot.”
When I think of a coach, I think of someone above me, someone who gives instruction --- not a friend. But Coach Smith is different, and, like any other good friend, she dealt with my problem in a determined way even when I hated her for it at that time. I didn't deserve her kindness, but she gave it anyway. I will forever be grateful for her help, and now for her friendship.
28. How did the author feel when she ate a poor diet
A. Regretful. B. Proud. C. Happy. D. Awful.

D. Because she kept her idea of losing weight.
30. Why did the author write a letter to Coach Smith
A. Because she felt sorry for eating too little food.
B. Because she decided to stop dieting.
C. Because she was grateful for Smith's care for her health.
D. Because she wanted to build a close relationship with Smith.
31. What can we infer from the last paragraph
A. The author and Coach Smith became friends.
B. The author always hated Coach Smith.
C- The author didn't mind Coach Smith's kindness.
D. The author still went on a diet.

China's famous distilled spirit (白酒)will officially be called "Chinese Baijiu” in English; it has been mentioned as such in Chinese official documents since January 1, The official English name “Chinese Baijiu" was applied in the 2021 Import and Export Tariff of the People's Republic of China implemented on January 1, Sichuan Daily reported.
Chinese distilled spirit, a clear liquid made from sorghum and other grains, is one of the six major distilled spirits in the world, in addition to Brandy, Whisky, Vodka, Rum and Gin. Although its consumption (消 费)makes up one-third of the total consumption of distilled spirits around the world because of China's huge consumer base, it did not have an official English name, and was called a number of names including Chinese spirits, Chinese distilled spirits and Chinese liquor.
In 2019, the English name of the Chinese distilled spirit, Chinese Baijiu, was revised by China's Standardization Administration in the recommended national standard, Terminology of Baijiu Industry. Baijiu has a long and important history in China. Its place in Chinese culture is firmly entrenched due to alcohol-related Chinese stories connected with many famous historical people such as Li Bai (701-762), one of China's most famous poets, who was believed to have written hundreds of well-known poems while drinking the alcohol.

We're lucky to live in an age when the sum total of human knowledge is pretty available at the click of a button. We've never had access to so much information. But not all of what's out there is quite what it seems. 36
Be careful of confirmation prejudice (偏见).37 In experiments, psychologists have
shown we're much more likely to accept something as evidence if it confirms what we already think we know. And we're much more likely to discount information if it contradicts (相矛盾) our views.
38 In life, most situations are different and complicated. For example, what colour is the sky The obvious answer is blue. But at sunrise or sunset, it can be red. On a cold misty morning, white or grey. So pay attention to differences in many situations..
Practise intellectual humility (谦逊).One approach to arguing is to let go of the idea of being “right”. 39 Putting yourself in other person's shoes can lead to much more productive outcomes. Arguing is just to waste somebody's time.
Check your sources. 40 Engaging in critical thinking isn't as fun as picking up a fork, or feeling like you're completely right. But in the long run, it leads to a more curious, educated and harmonious society, which is the biggest win of all.
A. Avoid mistakes.
B. Acknowledge small differences.
C. We all enjoy feeling like we're right.
D. So here are a few strategies to sharpen your critical thinking. 、
E. Or at least seriously consider that you might actually be wrong.
F. So don't rush to decide, and be actively prepared to change your mind.
G. It's more important than ever to know where your information is coming from.
