I am an ordinary 17-year-old girl. I go to school, chat to my friends and play my guitar. I don't have much in my mind. At least, that's what most people think. In fact, life changed drastically (巨大地) for me and my family in the summer of 2011, when I was 10. It was a beautiful summer's day when my dad had his accident. He had gone out for a bike ride and seemed to be taking a lot longer than usual. When Mum called him to check if everything was all right, a nurse answered the phone. I was inside the house and could hear her speaking to someone in the garden. As I looked out of the door.
I knew something terrible had happened. She looked stricken ( 受困 扰的) and I stood worriedly in the doorway until she hung up and told me Dad was in hospital. He had been involved in a road accident and had a severe injury. On that beautiful day, we didn’t have many details about what was going on because the nurse couldn’t disclose a lot through the phone and the unknown was the scariest thing. I had no idea whether my dad was going to live. My mum went alone to the hospital and I stayed at my grandparents’ house. I was too shaken to do anything, so I just sat quietly and hoped that everything would be OK. I don't have any siblings (兄弟姐妹), so Mum and I were the only ones in the house for the eight months when Dad was in hospital. It seemed empty and quiet especially as Mum was sometimes at work when I got back from school. Before Dad went into hospital there had always been someone there asking me about my day and helping me with homework. Now there wasn’t. I became more independent and tried to take care of myself as much as possible. When I think about my life, I split (分成) it into before and after the accident because I feel like a very different, more mature person than the one I was before. Most people’s childhood fades slowly into adolescence and then adult life, but mine ended abruptly (突然地). I was forced to grow up.
24. How did the author live before her father's accident
A. Busy but peaceful. B. Common but happy
C. Tired and meaningless. D. Comfortable and harmonious.
25. What is the closest meaning of the underlined word "disclose” in Paragraph 3
A. Understand. B. Appreciate
C. Charge. D. Uncover.
26. How long has been the author's father in hospital
A. Eight months. B. Five years. C. Ten months. D. Two years.
27. What does the author mainly tell us
A. Difficulty makes a man grow up. B. Life is full of challenges.
C. Independence is important. D. Life needs all kinds of experiences.

More than 2.25 billion cups of coffee are consumed across the globe each day, and it's likely that many taste bitter. Now, a new study suggests that coffee fans can make their drink taste sweeter by simply changing the color of their cups. Scientists claim that blue and glass mugs, which are popular in some coffee shops, can reduce coffee's bitterness, without any need for sugar, and that coffee drunk from white cups tastes the bitterest. To prove their claims, the researchers invited 36 volunteers and used three different colored cups —blue, white and transparent (透明的) glass — to do an experiment. In the experiment, coffee consumed from the white cup was found to taste less sweet when compared to the other two colored cups, while the blue cup made the coffee taste the sweetest. The scientists believe that the color brown may be associated with coffee's bitterness because coffee in a white cup appears the brownest and tastes the bitterest. “Our study clearly shows that the color of a coffee cup does influence the perceived (感受到的) taste and flavor of coffee,” said Dr. George Doom of Federation University Australia, “but the potential effects may be different between a one-time purchase and a return customer.”
“Anyhow, the effect of the color of the cup on the flavor of the coffee suggests that café owners, baristas (服务员), as well as coffee cup manufacturers should carefully consider the color of their cups, “ he added. However, the idea that color can alter (改变) the taste of food and drink is not new. A study published last year revealed that red, strawberry-flavored mousse (慕斯蛋糕) served on a white plate was rated as 10 percent sweeter and 15 percent more flavorous than the same food presented on a black plate.
28.What color of the cup can best reduce coffee's bitterness without adding sugar

29.The scientists used ____ to do the experiment to prove their claims.
① different brands of coffee ② different colored coffee cups

A. Because white cups are not as beautiful as other cups.
B. Because white cups make coffee appear the brownest.
C. Because white cups reduce the sugar in them.
D. Because white cups are better used to serve cakes.
31.According to the article, which of the following statements is TRUE
A. Black plates increase the sweetness of food and drink.
B. Strawberry-flavored mousse is 10 percent sweeter than coffee.
C. People consume more than 2.5 billion cups of coffee across the globe every year.
D. People can make coffee taste sweeter by changing the color of their coffee cups.

A European Union program is letting blind people experience famous paintings for the first time. It uses three dimensional (3-D) printing to re-create famous paintings so they can be touched. One painting printed with the new technology is Gustav Klimt's "The Kiss." It is a popular attraction at the Belvedere Museum in Vienna, Austria. The painting shows a man and a woman standing in a field filled with flowers. They are wearing gold robes and have their arms around each other. The man leans (倾斜) down to kiss the woman. Klimt finished the painting in 1908. Until now, people who had trouble seeing could not appreciate the artwork. But thanks to the reproduction (复制品) they can touch the piece and feel the ridges and depressions. Andreas Reichinger started making 3-D versions of artwork in 2010. He said this reproduction was his most difficult project because the couple's robes are so detailed. Dominika Raditsch is a blind museum visitor. She touched the reproduction. As she moved her hands around it she said, "Exactly, can you see these There are so many details." Raditsch said she can imagine what the original painting looks like when she touches the reproduction. "It's somehow round. You can feel it. It comes with it. And in many places it's so smooth. And then I think to myself: it probably shines too!" Raditsch said.
The Belvedere is not the only museum to have 3-D versions of its artwork. Some of the pieces at the Prado, in Madrid, Spain, have reproductions that can be touched. But the piece in Vienna has one special part: it is made with widely available 3-D printing technology. That means one day, blind art fans anywhere in the world could download the source files and print the reproductions themselves.
32. What is The kiss
A. A European Union project. B. A popular painting.
C. A 3-D technology. D. A famous museum.
33. Why did Reichinger say this reproduction was difficult to finish

B. The original artwork was made in 1908.
C. Blind art fans can’t download the source.
D. The 3-D technology is not available.
34. How did Raditsch feel when she first touched the reproduction
A. Awkward. B. Puzzled. C. Excited. D. Nervous.
35. What is the best title for the text
A. A European Union Program for Museum Visitors.
B. 3-D Printing Lets the Blind Experience Famous Paintings.
C. How to Reproduce the World-famous Paintings.
D. A Special Museum for Art Fans in Vienna, Austria.

Anxiously and hurriedly, two young firemen,Adam and Ben arrived at the apartment of a single mother with two children after they answered a 911 call. To their surprise, they discovered that there was no emergency at all, only to find that the younger child, about three years old, was playing with the phone. Adam told the mother that she should let the kids play their own toys instead of the telephone. The mother said sorry to them, promising that she would make the kid far away from the telephone. The similar things would happen many times a year. All the firemen were not angry about it, especially with a three-year old kid. Adam and Ben looked around their house again and made sure there was really not any danger before they left their house. After they go on their fire engine ( 消 防 车 ), Adam asked curiously, “Have you noticed something strange in their house ” Ben thought for a while and answered, “All of them weren't smiling. It seemed like they weren’t happy at all.” “Yes, you are right! But anything else I still felt there was something wrong in their house." The two young men looked at each other, and cried almost at the same time, “There was no Christmas tree!”
It was December 23rd. It was a day when all families were preparing their Christmas buying gifts, making the delicious food, decorating their Christmas trees and so on, busy but happy. But the family they just met didn't have a Christmas tree in their house! It was pretty obvious that the family was having a poor life and they couldn't afford to buy a single Christmas tree! “Maybe they weren't going to have a Christmas this year. It was terrible!” Ben murmured (低声说) to himself. 注意:续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好;

Dear Alex,
With the College Entrance Examination approaching, my anxiety about the English learning is increasing. So I am writing to seek some guidance on how to improve it.
English writing is really a big challenge for me. First of all, my vocabulary is not large, which makes it impossible for me to choose right and authentic words and phrases. Besides, English grammar becomes a bottleneck of my English writing, the sentences I construct being much more like Chinese sentences than English ones.
Should you be kind enough to give me any help, I would be grateful to you.
Yours,
Li Hua

Paragraph 1:
Two young firemen left the house with a plan. After they got off work, they went to a supermarket and bought a Christmas tree, some lights, decorations, and gifts for the two kids with their own money. Then they returned to the apartment hurriedly. Opening the door , the woman was amazed to see them again. She turned back, shouting to her kids angrily, “Tom, why you played with the telephone again !”
Paragraph 2:
“We are not firemen this time!" Adam said. “We are postmen assigned by Father Christmas. We deliver some gifts to you.” Two kids rushed out of their house, hiding behind their mother. Adam and Ben helped them put all the things in order, as if the poor house were lightened, shining. Asked why they did this, Ben answered, “We were glad to see that this family was going to have something to sit around." “It seemed like that the family would have a happy Christmas, which was all we wanted,” Adam added.
