听力专题—进行数字运算的能力
Teaching aims:
After this lesson, students are required to:
Have a general understanding about the listening questions about figures;
Learn the basic time calculation methods;
II. Teaching important points and difficulties:
1) Different ways to express the same meaning;
2) Pronunciations that students are easy to mix;
3) Improve through listening practice.
III.Teaching aids:
Multimedia, listening book (Bai Lang), blackboard and chalks, etc.
IV. Teaching Procedures:
Activity 1: General introduction
如:晚到一个半小时:to be delayed for an hour and a half;an hour and a half behind schedule;an hour and a half late;be late for one hour and a half;to miss...by an hour and a half.
b)答题技巧的运用不够熟练。(数字题学会做笔记)
c)不能排除同音和近音的干扰。
如:eight thirty表示8:30;eighteen thirty表示18:30
Activity 2: Listening Practice
Ask students to turn their book to page 9, and glance through the first 10 questions as quickly as possible.
Listen, each dialogue once.
Check answers and analyze.
Activity 3: characteristics of figure questions
When...
What time...
What day...
At what time...
How long...
How much...
How many...?
How old...
How soon...
How far away...
How often...
Activity 4: Things we need to pay attention
(1)听录音时,注意teen和ty的区别以及千以上数的辨别;
(2)注意街道、房间、汽车等号码的习惯表达方法。如:320---three twenty/three two zero; 电话号码则将数字逐个读出来;
(3)注意价格的习惯表达。如:$19.95,读成nineteen ninety-five dollars, 切勿将其误解为1995美元;
(4)注意时间表达上的英美差异。如:1:45可读成a quarter to two 或 one forty-five;
(5)注意年代、世纪在口头表达上与书面表达上的差异。如,20世纪写成1990s, in the eighteen forties应理解为19世纪40年代;
(6)注意倍数意义的表达,如times, twice, couple, a pair of, half of, double, one third, quarter, percentage等;
(7)注意诸如late(later), early(earlier), delay, start, ahead of, in advance, fast, slow, increase, add等与时间数字有关的词,以帮助理解和计算;
Activity 5: Consolidation
Activity 5: Summary and assignment
Review what we have learned
Further consolidation by finishing practice 5, page 11.
V. Design of the blackboard
VI. Reflection
For most students, what teachers should do is to help them memorize as many words as possible, because they don’t lack the ability of listening but the correct words with same meanings.
W: What time is it
M: You just asked me that ten minute ago, at 9:25 a.m. Is there something wrong with your memory
W: I don't have a watch and it's important for me to know the time.
1. What time is it now
A. 9:25 a.m.
B. 9:35 a.m.
C. 9:45 a.m.
2. When should the meeting have started
A. at 9:00 a.m.
B. at 11:00 a.m.
C. at 10:00 a.m.
M: When is Jennifer It's 11:00 a.m. The meeting should have started an hour ago.
W: She called earlier. All the subway trains have been canceled, so she had to take a taxi. But it's stuck in traffic
M: Really---this city.
W: Hi Dad, it's 5:30a.m., and the plane is taking off.
M: I'll meet you at the airport. What time is your flight due to arrive
W: It's supposed to get there at 8:30 a.m.
3. How long will the flight take
A. about five hours.
B. about three hours.
C. about four hours.
M: Is this going to be the first day Daisy will be late for work
W: Looks like it. It's 8:55. Only five minutes to go.
M: Oh no, here she comes, as usual.
4. What time should Daisy start work
A. at 8:55.
B. at 9:00.
C. at 9:05.
M: Last time we met, you said you were going to see a movie. What was it like
W: Too long. It started at 7:00 p.m. and didn't finish until 11:00 p.m. I missed my bus home.
M: That director doesn't know how to edit his film.
5. How long did the movie last
A. for two hours.
B. for three hours.
C. for four hours.
W: It's 8:30, Dave, and you're going to be late for the meeting.
M: Oh, my! I just have half an hour left. I can't believe I slept for 10 hours.
6. What time does Dave's meeting start
A. at 8:30.
B. at 9:00.
C. at 10:00.
M: Why didn't we discuss the new order at our last meeting
W: It was too late to discuss it at the December meeting. I've carried it forward to the January meeting.
M: OK, so we should have a decision in time for the February meeting.
7. How often are meetings held
A. once a day.
B. once a week.
C. once a month.
W: Excuse me. Could you tell me what time Flight AF35 gets in
M: Well, it's due in at 6:20 p.m. But the announcement said just now that it has a 30-minite delay because of the bad weather.
8. When will the flight arrive
A. at 18:20.
B. at 18:35.
C. at 18:50.
M: I read that the three men who stole from your house were sent to prison
W: Yes, the two younger ones got two years, but the older one was given twice as much.
M: That should teach them a lesson.
9. How long will the older man be in prison
A. for four years.
B. for three years.
C. for two years.
W: OK, the cake is now baking. It takes three hours, so remind me to take it out at 5:00 p.m.
M: You should have a chicken timer instead of relying on my memory for your cooking.
10. What time was the cake put in
A. at 1:00 p.m.
B. at 2:00 p.m..
C. at 3:00 p.m.
W: The hotel will stand at 200 feet tall and include 350 guest rooms, five restaurants, three pools and a gym.
M: It sounds like a good opportunity to invest. I'll invest half.
W: So we're looking for a total of 10 million investment, but the maximum any party can invest is 25%.
M: OK, so if I bring in another investor, we can both put in 25%
W: That's correct. But the investors have to be from the UK. We are only allowed a maximum of 20%investment from non-UK sources.
M: I'm originally from England and still live here for business purpose. However, the other investor I have in mind is in German.
W: Then he would only be able to invest a maximum of 20%. However, if we get another overseas investor, the 20% will be split between them.
M: And what are the projections in term of profits
W: Well, we're aiming to break ground in 2022, and the hotel is expected to be completed by 2024 and opened by 2025. From the point of opening, we expect to turn a profit in year four.
M: OK, let me think about the numbers.
1. How many swimming pools will the hotel have
A. one.
B. three
C. five.
2. How much can the man invest
A. 2.5 million
B. 5 million
C. 10million
