Earlier this year, we asked our readers to vote for their favorite children's museums. Shortly after announcing the winners, these museums had to close their doors to help protect their communities from the spread of COVID-19. But they also bring some of their programming online.
The Magic House | St. Louis, Missouri
The folks at The Magic House in St. Louis are sharing their expertise through their Magic at Home series. Each edition features a project that kids and their parents can do with household materials, like making a banjo or animal figures.
City Museum | St. Louis, Missouri
While City Museum is closed to visitors, the museum staff, artists and historians have launched City Museum on Air. This series takes place each weekday with an eclectic lineup of programming-everything from free art classes, storytelling sessions and museum tours at upcoming exhibits.
Kohl Children's Museum | Glenview, Illinois
This winning children's museum calls itself "The place where awesomeness lives", and would-be visitors can bring that awesomeness into the home through its library of online teaching resources, story time sessions and "Home Zone" projects. My parents owned a neighborhood bar called the M NinetySeven, named after a nearby highway,on the corner of State Fair and Hoover Avenues in Detroit. Built in the 1930s,it had a long wooden bar that was on the right as you walked in. I grew up in the bar. When most kids of my age were at the park playing ball or riding bikes,I was watching old men shoot pool and play shuffleboard(沙壶球).
My father spent his entire life serving drinks and bringing cheer to customers. There were the white-collars who would step in to unwind from the day's stress. They would bend elbows with the blue-collars and day laborers on either side of them. It always surprised me that they were able to mingle(相交往). I would sit at the last table by the kitchen, sipping Cokes and eating a bag of Better Made potato chips with my twin sister, watching it all.
It was the 1960s version of a reality show. There was Big Bill, the tough talking policeman who stood six and a half feet tall and weighed just shy of the beer truck he drank daily. His views on society could be hard to listen to at times. But one night,he showed that he was all talk. While Bill was on patrol(巡逻),a call came over the radio about an apartment fire. He raced the scout car to the scene, beating even the fire crew. The building was ablaze. He ran up three flights of stairs through smoke and flames to rescue two frightened children. Bill carried them out in his arms like each was a carton of eggs. The man with an explosive mouth but a keg-sized heart saved the day.
Years passed,my father died, and the bar was sold. Like secondhand smoke, the words and the scenes from that bar stayed with me.

C. To communicate. D. To relax themselves.
26. Which of the following can best describe Bill
A. Rude and careless. B. Tough but a little bit shy.
C. Complaining but responsible . D. Talkative and narrow-hearted.
27. What can we infer from the last paragraph
A. The bar impressed the writer a lot.
B. The father didn’t mange the bar well.
C. Secondhand smoke is similar to the bar.
D. The writer has nothing to do with the bar.

When did you last write a letter Properly write one—by hand In a digital world, where sending a text or email is far more convenient than using snail mail, is the writing on the wall for traditional pen and paper Well, some people claim that writing still has many benefits, so maybe it's not time to ditch your ballpoint (圆珠笔) or fountain pen (钢笔) yet.
These days, when people request things in writing, a typed, electronic document will be accepted. Doing this on a computer means it could be saved, edited, copied and sent via email. But crafting a handwritten document is unique: It requires planning and thought, and, as well as practising your handwriting, it helps you to remember spelling and punctuation.
Some experts believe your brain benefits from using old-fashioned pen and paper. This is particularly relevant for students, where typing notes into a laptop is thought to lack the "tactile feedback" (触觉反馈) to the brain that contact between pen and paper does. BBC Worklife website quotes Hetty Roessingh from the University of Calgary, who says that "taking notes by hand involves cognitive (认知的) engagement in summarizing, adapting, organizing, concept and vocabulary mapping." Others agree that handwriting may boost fine motor skills in your hands and fingers.
There are everyday benefits to using pen and paper too. Scribbling (涂鸦) notes, shopping lists or messages on the back of an envelope can still be useful, quick and portable. But putting pen to paper in a letter to a friend or loved one can probably have the most impact. Pen pal writer Katherine Moller told the BBC: "In a world where it is so easy to hop online to email or to send a fast text, it is so personal and so precious to know someone chose to turn off the virtual world to spend some time with you."
So, while digital skills remain important, don't write off your pens and pencils yet-especially if your smartphone, tablet or laptop runs out of power!
28. What does the underlined word “ditch” mean in the first paragraph
A. Write. B. Abandon. C. Save. D. Choose.
29. What does the writer want to emphasize in Paragraph 2
A. The popularity of electronic documents.
B. The convenience of electronic documents.
C. The special features of handwritten documents.
D. The basic requirements of handwritten documents.
30. Which of the following is the benefit of writing by hand
A. It fully develops your hand muscles.
B. It helps you to practise your handwriting.
C. It strengthens the bond between pen and paper.
D. It sharpens your comprehensive cognitive abilities.
31. What can we infer from Katherine Moller's words
A. It is necessary for us to turn off the virtual world.
B. Scribbling notes should be practised in our daily life.
C. Using paper and pen has the greatest impact on our daily life.
D. Writing a letter by hand can be a touching and valuable experience.
D
Face masks and protective suits can save lives. But what happens after people are done using them Binish Desai, the founder of Eco-Eclectic Technologies from Western India, saw the impact brought by the rising use of and demand for single-use masks and kits due to the coronavirus pandemic, so he created Brick 2.0 to prevent tons of single-use personal protective equipment (PPE) from being thrown away and ending up in landfills or water streams.
Although PPE is essential for medical use,it is extremely necessary to assess new alternatives and to raise awareness regarding its proper use and disposal(处理).A study published by the American Chemical Society suggests that 129 billion face masks are used monthly during the coronavirus pandemic, which causes great environmental pollution. In India alone, over 18,000 British tonnes of coronavirus-related biomedical waste was generated in just four months between June and September. The waste would take hundreds of years to break down, according to the magazine Waste Advantage.
Brick 2.0 is a new version of the brick made from industrial waste, now also including used face masks and protective suits. The process starts with the collection of PPE waste through garbage cans placed in small shops and apartment buildings, with easy access for people to throw away their used items. Once in the factory, the collections are kept for 72 hours for safety reasons. Then they are cleaned and torn into pieces before being mixed with other waste. Finally, the material is shaped, and once dry, each brick is ready to use. It is three times stronger than conventional bricks at twice the size and half the price.
In a complex situation like the one we are living in these days, this solution is not only relatively easy to operate, but also very achievable in the short term , which can really help overcome today's global environmental challenges.
32. Why did Desai create Brick 2.0
A. To recycle the PPE waste. B. To reduce production cost.
C. To protect water resource. D. To prevent serious disease.
33. What do the figures in Paragraph 2 indicate
A. The study lacks sufficient evidence.
B. The pandemic is difficult to control.
C. The demand for face masks is in decline.
D. The environment is facing severe challenges.
34. What is mainly discussed about Brick 2.0 in Paragraph 3
A. Its function. B. Its advantage.
C. Its main characteristic. D. Its production process.
35. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. Innovation never ends B. Environmental issues count
C. Transform waste into treasure D. Defend your life with face masks

“Hi, Mary,” in rushed her friend Jessica. “How is your arm Is it going to influence your performance ”
“I guess it can be tolerated for I am to win the match.” said Mary with a determined look.
“Admirable! But I hear that a girl called Linda is really gifted and strong. She can be your real well-matched e on!”
After Jessica left, Mary decided to practice her most difficult spin. “If I don’t try harder, I won’t grasp this chance.” She thought. But her arm began to hurt, making her worried. “Mary, what makes you think you have a chance tonight ” she said to herself. After the pain was gone, she continued to warm up.
A slim girl hurried in and put down an equipment bag on the chair. Then, she took out her dance dress quickly and put it on skillfully. Seeing Mary, she smiled politely and said “Hi, I’m Linda. I’m the next one!” Mary nodded in reply but felt uncomfortable. “This is just my competitor. Because of her, I may lose tonight.” Her mind was wandering when Linda let out a scream, “Oh, God, I can’t find my music tape!” Linda searched her bag but in vain. “It may be missing on the way.” With these words, she then rushed out.

第二节读后续写(满分25分)
读后续写范文1
Suddenly, Mary caught sight of a black box under the chair where Linda put her bag. She went over and then opened the box, spotting Linda’s very tape inside. She whispered to herself, “this might be my chance to defeat her, but…” Faced with such a dilemma, she felt the struggle and confusion going on in her heart. However, she didn’t let that selfish idea get the upper hand of her. On a second thought, she rushed out to find Linda who was just about to come in. “Here is your tape. Break a leg!” Mary said in an encouraging tone, patting Linda on the shoulder. Linda, too grateful to utter a word, held Mary tightly in turn. Then she stepped onto the stage, finishing her performance calmly and skillfully. Mary watched, bitterly proud and extremely nervous as she waited her turn.
Hearing her name called, Mary walked on the stage with her heart beating faster and faster. She did everything in her power to make the performance impressive. However, the severe pain in her arm visited her again when she was performing the most challenging spin, which resulted in her falling down on the stage. Off the stage went Mary, low-spirited, but she felt unusually peaceful inside. With the final results announced, Linda ran toward Mary and said emotionally, “I owe you a great deal. But for your help, I wouldn’t have had the chance to be on the stage, let alone win the championship. The honor belongs to both of us.” Hearing that, Mary couldn’t refrain from smiling through tears. Defeated as Mary was, she believed she had won everything.
读后续写范文2
Suddenly, Mary caught sight of a black box under the chair where Linda put her bag. She bent over to pick it up. “Linda’s music tape!” She cried out in surprise. “It must have rolled out of her bag, while she got changed here.” At this moment, an idea flashed through her mind, which made her rooted to the spot. “Without her music tape, Linda will surely lose; without this real competitor, I will definitely win.” At the thought of this, Mary shivered slightly. She was in a dilemma, wondering what to do next. “Do I really want to win so much ” She hesitated for a second and then hurried out to give the music tape to Linda, who was extremely anxious in the corridor. Linda was so grateful to Mary, and finished her dancing successfully.
Hearing her name called, Mary walked on the stage with her heart beating faster and faster. Nervous as she was, she stepped onto the stage with a big smile. She danced skillfully to the music and completed her most difficult spin smoothly. “Good,” she thought to herself, “my injured arm is awesome today.” As the music ended, thunderous applause filled the stadium. With the final marks announced, Mary knew she achieved her goal and tears began to well up in her eyes. (Possible ending 1) As she headed back to the dressing room, Linda came up to her cheerfully and held her hand tightly, “Congratulations! You’ve done an amazing performance! You win!” Mary smiled happily, “I win.” (Possible ending 2) As she headed back to the dressing room, she thought about the music tape. “No one will know how close I really came to losing,” Mary said softly to herself.

Text 10 (210词) 巨石强森
M: Every actor’s road to fame is different, but Dwayne Johnson’s path has been one of the most unique.
Born in California in 1972, Johnson quickly became familiar with the family business: professional wrestling. Both his father and grandfather were wrestling stars. But after his studies concluded, Johnson decided to play professional football in Canada. Unfortunately, Johnson was cut from his football team just two months into his debut season.
Johnson credits his appearance on the American show Saturday Night Live in the year 2000 with helping him become an actor. Since then, he has gone on to feature in dozen of Hollywood productions, including Get Smart, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, and the Fast & Furious series.
In 2007, he and his ex-wife donated one million dollars to the University of Miami to improve its football facilities. Johnson also has a charity, the Dwayne Johnson Rock Foundation that works with at-risk and terminally ill children.
In 2019, he topped Forbes magazine’s list as the world’s highest-paid actor, earning $89.4 million in the previous year. And perhaps more important than his financial success, Johnson’s fellow actors routinely describe him as energetic, focused, and devoted — three qualities that have helped him greatly on his unique path to the top of Hollywood.

10. 细节理解题。女子说I’ll need to look for a job once I finish my six-month exchange program this summer. 注意这句话中的关键词“once”,今年夏天一完成为时六个月的交换生项目,我就要找工作了。由此可知,女子正在做交换生项目,故选B。A选项是她之后的打算,不是目前正在做的事情。C选项没有提及。
