书面表达参考:
Recently, the Chinese Ministry of Education announced a new policy focusing on the reduction of exams to ease the burden on students.
From my perspective, I am in favor of the practice. We students should be evaluated multidimensionally instead of merely by grades. This means that we can have the opportunity to develop our potential to the fullest and gain self-confidence. Besides, this policy will greatly cut parents’ education costs previously spent on private tutoring, thus alleviating financial burdens on families. What’s more, we will have more free time to take part in various after-class activities including public service, which can benefit us both physically and mentally in the long run.
In conclusion, I believe the government is taking a positive step in the right direction to reform our education system.
Text 1
M: Why did you choose that book I always thought you are a mystery or historical fiction reader.
W: I haven’t read those types of books since I was 18. Now I like to read romance novels.
Text 2
M: Hi, you seem confused. Is there anything I can do to help you
W: Thank you, but I’m not lost. I’m just angry that I have to wait so long for my brother to come out.
Text 3
M: I think you should be a teacher. Otherwise, it will be a waste of your degree.
W: But I enjoy being a librarian. I love books, especially history. And when I’m free, I can work on my hobby — designing websites!
Text 4
M: You’ve been on your laptop all day, Mary. Take a break and come outside for a bit.
W: Maybe later. I have a paper due tomorrow and I do not have enough sources to prove my arguments.
Text 5
M: I folded the laundry and took out the rubbish. Is that all I need to do today, Mom My game is waiting.
W: Almost. Just help me set the table and then you’re free.
Text 6
M: And here is the production line. These will provide the power for the next generation of electric cars.
W: Someone in the office said these were much smaller than the previous ones.
M: Yes, batteries are getting smaller all the time. They used to be the size of a cupboard. Our aim is to reduce them to the size of a shoe box.
W: And when the finished product is put in a car, where does the car go
M: Straight to the showroom usually. There is a big demand for this type of vehicle.
W: Well, thanks for the tour. It has been really interesting.
M: It was a pleasure.
Text 7
W: That was a hard day. I’m getting too old to be a teacher. We both are.
M: You’re kidding. I’m 46 and you’re only 36. You’re almost a child!
W: Ha-ha. If only. I’ve had such a tiring day. I don’t feel like I have the energy any more.
M: You ought to read the story I’ve just read, about a man who is still teaching at the age of 92.
W: What No way. People are getting their pensions long before that.
M: This man does it for free. He’s called Ye Lianping and he works in the village of Buchen, in Anhui province.
W: Why does he have to work at that age
M: He doesn’t have to. He volunteers to teach children who have been left behind by their parents.
W: Ah, are their parents migrant workers
M: Yes, the parents work in cities.
Text 8
W: This is a great party. I can’t believe it’s been 10 years since we finished high school! It feels like just yesterday that we were still in class with everyone.
M: 10 years I had thought it to be 8, or 9 years at the most. Oh, time flies. I can’t wait to tell the guys about our travels. Remember when we got to see the Mona Lisa and the Eiffel Tower in France
W: Oh, I will remember that trip forever. That was where we started our travel website. Before that, we had only been to Mexico City and, er…Vancouver, Canada!
M: How many countries has it been now…twenty
W: Oh, at least! It’s just been you, me, our computers, and the world around us for the last eight years. What was your favorite trip
M: Honestly, I think the little tour we took of New Zealand was my favorite. I must say that the pictures we took there were the best we’ve ever taken.
W: Oh, I’m not sure about that. I’m probably most proud of our pictures of India. That trip was exactly like I had been dreaming of! Hey, that’s Brad Lewis. Let’s go say hi…
Text 9
M: I’m so sorry I’m late! The traffic is always terrible downtown, especially at this time of day.
W: For sure. Even the bridge was closed yesterday. A bus got two flat tires in the middle of it, and it took me nearly an hour to get around it.
M: Lucky for me, I never have to go over that bridge.
W: I’ve always wanted to see the circus, you know.
M: Yeah, I wish I could have taken you to something like this when you were younger. But I just couldn’t afford it back then, with your mom being sick.
W: Well, you did the best you could for the family. And anyway, I think I turned out okay.
M: Yeah, Linda, I’m so proud of you! I still can’t believe a couple of poor farmers raised one of the brightest doctors at Stanford Hospital!
W: Well, you taught me the value of hard work. I’ll always be grateful for that. Hey, let’s go get some snacks before we go inside.
M: All right. We should go to our seats right after that, though. I don’t want to miss the first performance. It’s a local magician, and he’s supposed to be amazing.

China’s efforts to promote household waste recycling have met with some problems. But just what are the new laws all about To give an example, Shanghai’s first regulation on household waste management took effect on July 1st. It had been approved at the annual local conference on Jan. 31st. With some final changes, the regulation was approved widely. Details were made public by Feb. 15th. According to the regulation, hotels should not provide one-off slippers and shower caps, while restaurants and food delivery businesses should not provide one-off chopsticks and forks. Government and public institutions are not allowed to use one-off cups and should give priority to purchasing products made from recycled materials. It requires people to sort household rubbish into four categories — dry garbage, wet garbage, recyclables and harmful waste. Individuals who fail to do so will be fined up to 200 yuan. For companies and institutions, the fine can go up to 50,000 yuan.
Shanghai, a city of more than 24 million citizens, produces more than nine million tons of household garbage every year, which is a big threat to the environment. The new regulations may seem tough but they are only similar to laws that have been in force in many other countries for many years.
