“How can I learn English well ” This is a question many students ask. In my opinion, the most effective way is to learn lessons by heart. If you can recite the text and write it out, you’ve learned it fairly well. And if you can tell, in your own words, what the lesson says you’re a very successful learner indeed. Your English will be quite perfect.
This is a difficult task. However, if you try to learn by heart only part of each lesson, you’ll find it not half so hard as you might have thought.
Learning this way, you will make rapid progress. Of course, writing is also necessary. It helps you a lot on our way to success in English.
Equally important is to feel the language. You should be able to laugh at jokes and be shocked at bad news. When using English, try to forget your mother tongue. Instead of helping you, your own language gets in your way. So, never try to see English through translation.
24.In the writer’s opinion, the most effective way in learning English is ____.
A.to forget your own native language
B.to practise speaking, writing and feeling it
C.to translate everything into his own language
D.to memorize the English words and grammatical rules
25. “Instead of helping you, your own language gets in your way.”This sentence means that memorizing your own language can ________.
A.help you to study English well
B.stop you mastering English
C.make English easy to learn
D.help you notice mistakes
26.Equally important is to feel the language. “to feel the language” here means________.
A.to get a knowledge of English by touching
B. to be able to read and write English
C.to translate English into your own by imagining
D.to be able to experience the rich sensation of the language
C
A child who has once been pleased with a tale likes, as a rule, to have it retold in almost the same words, but this should not lead parents to treat printed fairy stories as formal texts. It is always much better to tell a story than read it out of a book, and, if a parent can produce what, in the actual situation of the time and the child, is an improvement on the printed text, so much the better.
A charge made against fairy tales is that they harm the child by frightening him or making him sad thinking. To prove the latter, one would have to show in a controlled experiment that children who have read fairy stories were more often sorry for cruelty than those who had not. As to fears, there are, I think, some cases of children being dangerously terrified by some fairy story. Often, however, this arises (出现) from the child having heard the story once. Familiarity with the story by repetition turns the pain of fear into the pleasure of a fear faced and mastered.
There are also people who object to fairy stories on the grounds that they are not objectively true, that giants, witches, two - headed dragons, magic carpets, etc. do not exist; and that, instead of being fond of the strange side in fairy tales, the child should be taught to learn the reality by studying history. I find such people, I must say so peculiar (奇怪的) that I do not know how to argue with them. If their case were sound, the world should be full of mad men attempting to fly from New York to Philadelphia on a stick or covering a telephone with kisses in the belief that it was their beloved girl -friend.
No fairy story ever declared to be a description of the real world and no clever child has ever believed that it was.
27.The author considers that a fairy story is more effective when it is ____ .
A . repeated without any change B. treated as a joke
C. made some changes by the parent D. set in the present
28.According to the passage, great fear can take place in a child when the story is ____ .
A. in a realistic setting B. told in a different way
C. repeated too often D. heard for the first time
29.The advantage claimed (提出) for repeating fairy stories to young children is that it ____.
A. makes them less fearful
B. develops their power of memory
C. makes them believe there is nothing to be afraid of
D. encourages them not to have strange beliefs
30.The author’s mention of sticks and telephones is meant to suggest that ______.
A. fairy stories are still being made up
B. there is some misunderstanding about fairy tales
C. people try to modernize old fairy stories
D. there is more concern for children's fears nowadays
31. One of the reasons why some people are not in favor of fairy tales is that _______.
A. they are full of imagination
B. they are not interesting
C. they make teachers of history difficult to teach
D. they just make up the stories which are far from the truth
D
What will people die of 100 years from now If you think that is a simple question, you have not been paying attention to the revolution that is taking place in bio-technology(生物技术). With the help of new medicine, the human body will last a very long time. Death will come mainly from accidents, murder and war. Today's leading killers, such as heart diseases, cancer, and aging itself, will become distant memory.
In discussion of technological changes, the Internet gets most of the attention these days. But the change in medicine can be the real technological event of our times. How long can humans live Human brains were known to decide the final death. Cells are the basic units of all living things, and until recently, scientists were sure that the life of cells could not go much beyond 120 years because the basic materials of cells, such as those of brain cells, would not last forever. But the upper limits will be broken by new medicine. Sometime between 2050 and 2100, medicine will have advanced to the point at which every 10 years or so, people will be able to take medicine to repair their organs(器官). The medicine, made up of the basic building materials of life, will build new brain cells, heart cells, and so on---in much the same way our bodies make new skin cells to take the place of old ones.
It is exciting to imagine that the advance in technology may be changing the most basic conditional human existence, but many technical problems still must be cleared up on the way to this wonderful future.
32. According to the passage, human death is now mainly caused by _______.
A. diseases and aging B. accidents and war
C. accidents and aging D. heart diseases and war
33.In the author's opinion, today's most important advance in technology lies in _____.
A. medicine B. the internet C. brain cells D. human organs
34. Humans may live longer in the future because ______.
A. heart disease will be far away from us
B. human brains can decide the final death
C. the basic materials of cells will last forever
D. human organs can be repaired by new medicine
35. We can learn from the passage that _____.
A. human life will not last more than 120 years in the future
B. human have to take medicine to build new skin cells now
C. much needs to be done before humans can have a longer life
D. we have already solved the technical problems in building new cells.
