When people sit together at night and enjoy the glorious moon, an ancient poem, Prelude to Water Melody, is often read for this occasion. Critics say it’s probably the best poem about the Mid-Autumn Festival. Let’s just focus on its most famous five lines to make some analysis.
In the first two lines of the five, the writer is comparing the life of a man with the changing face of the moon. In Chinese culture the moon is always considered to be a perfect carrier of emotions like nostalgia(怀旧)and longing for family reunion. A full moon symbolizes perfection and unity, while a gloomy night may remind people of their fortunes. When the moon is round and fair but people are separated from their loved ones, such moments can be even more heartbreaking.
Before the comparison, the poet actually complains about the seemingly “ruthless (无情的)” moon and asks her: You should have no spite (怨恨) against man, but why, when people part, are you often full and bright However, he soon realizes that no one has an easy ride, just like the moon may not always be bright. The imperfections have been going on since the beginning of time. That’s why he says “There has been nothing perfect since the olden days.”
But should we get bogged down (陷入) by the suffering of things with which we can’t change The poet gives his answer: Change your attitude and stay positive. So, we have his everlasting line, “_____________.” The poet hopes that people appreciate the fact that no matter where they are, as long as the ones they love and miss are healthy and happy, they can all admire the same moon high in the sky.
To this day, people still use this verse to express their good will and wishes for family members and friends who can’t be with them, especially during major festivals.
24. What does the passage mainly talk about
A. How we can appreciate Chinese poetry about the Mid-Autumn Day.
B. When we must recite the best Chinese poetry about the Mid-Autumn Day.
C. What made a poet write the best ever Mid-Autumn Day Chinese poem.
D. Why a poem is the peak of Chinese poetry about the Mid-Autumn Day.
25. Why does the poet write “nothing is perfect since the olden day” in the poem
A. He doesn’t understand why the moon hates humans.
B. He knows eventually the moon will become full again.
C. He realizes life is always accompanied by imperfections.
D. He understands life is too ruthless and has lost his interest in it.
26. Which of the following lines is the most suitable for the blank in Paragraph4
A. How long will the full moon appear Wine cup in hand I ask the sky.
B. Looking up, I find the moon bright; bowing, in homesickness I’m drowned
C. In spring the river rises as high as the sea; with the river’s tide uprises the moon bright.
D. May we all be blessed with a long life; miles apart, we’ll share the beauty,of the moon together.
27.We can infer from this article that the author _______.
A. is a very optimistic poet
B. likes the first two lines of the five most
C. appreciates the poet’s optimism in the poem

Vaccines (疫苗) may soon make their first film appearance. Led by expert Maria A. Croyle, researchers have developed a thin sheet that preserves vaccines for long periods without refrigeration. This means the carefully cooled small bottles now used to ship vaccines could potentially be replaced by lightweight films that can be mailed in an envelope and stored on a shelf.
Croyle’s laboratory began developing the technology in 2007. Inspired by amber’s ability to preserve the DNA of insects, the researchers set out to create their own version of the substance by mixing “a lot of sugar and a little bit of salt, much like hard candy,” Croyle explains. The vaccine-containing film is administered by mouth—sweet news for many who dislike needles.
The film is tailored to suit each specific vaccine candidate and provide a protective coating. “We’ve learned over time that the key to really stabilizing whatever the film holds is to have it intermixed with all the components,” Croyle says, adding that the process is quick and uses affordable, standard equipment. “We really wanted to come up with something that would be transferable (可转移的) to developing countries.”
Immunization (免疫) programs depend heavily on keeping vaccines cold (2℃-8℃) as they are transported, sometimes over thousands of kilometers to far-away locations. Delivery can be difficult and costly, and transport disruptions (破坏) can cause the vaccines to be ineffective.
But this new product can store live viruses, bacteria and antibodies for several months at 20℃. In a paper published in Science Advances, the scientists show that the live viruses in one vaccine were preserved in the film even after 36 months. They also find that a flu vaccine suspended in their film compares favourably with a traditional flu shot (流感预防针). “The study demonstrates (论证) early proof of concept for an exciting platform for vaccine product development,” says Lisa Rohan, a pharmacologist, who was not involved in the study. She also notes that each vaccine type would need a custom formulation (配方) for future stages of development.
Finding partners to mass-produce for clinical trials is the researchers’ most pressing problem, Croyle says. They are also exploring packaging methods to keep their films stable up to 40℃.
Size is a major advantage—a letter-sized sheet of the film can carry more than 500 doses (剂) of vaccine, about 1 900 the weight of the same amount of traditional doses. By making it easier and cheaper to ship and preserve vaccines efficiently, Croyle says, the technology could vastly improve immunization rates the world over, particularly in middle - to low- income countries.
28. What can we learn about the film
A. It contains animal’s DNA. B. It will replace vaccines.
C. It comes in different flavours. D. It can hold bio-products.
29. According to Paragraph 3, we can learn about the film’s _______.
A. key component B. development schedule
C. possible advantages D. transportation requirements
30. The author mentions Lisa Rohan’s words to _______.
A. advise personalizing vaccines
B. suggest the product is promising
C. prove the study is supported widely
D. stress the functions of a new platform
31. What will be the next urgent task for Croyle’s team
A. Advertising the film worldwide. B. Improving the film’s capacity.
C. Reducing the shipping cost. D. Seeking ideal manufacturers.

In general, the riches of the natural world aren’t spread evenly across the globe. Places like the tropical Andes in South America are simply packed with unique species, many of which can’t be found in any other places. Until recently, the main explanation for the biological riches concentrated in places like the Amazon Basin was that such places must be engines of biodiversity(生物多样性), with new species evolving at a faster rate than other parts of the world. But now, new research on bird evolution may turn that assumption on its head, instead supporting the idea that areas with fewer species actually tend to produce new species faster.
The researchers say these biodiversity “coldspots” are generally found in environments featuring freezing, dry and unstable conditions. Though the researchers found these locations with few bird species tend to produce new ones at high rates, they fail to accumulate many species because the unstable conditions frequently make the new life forms die out.
The more well-known “hotspots”, by contrast, have accumulated their large numbers of species by being warm, hospitable and relatively stable. Indeed, the researchers found that the countless bird species that call the Amazon home tend to be older in evolutionary terms. “New species do form in places like the Amazon, just not as frequently as in the dry grasslands in the Andes,” says Elizabeth, an evolutionary biologist at the University of Tennessee.
The researchers managed to collect 1,940 samples representing 1,287 of the 1,306 bird species from South America. Their analysis showed that the best predictor of whether an area would produce new species at a high rate was how many species lived there, rather than climate or geographic features like mountains. Species-rich areas tended to produce new species more slowly.
“Maybe bad environments generate new species more frequently because there’s less competition and more available opportunities for new species,” says Gustavo Bravo, a lead researcher.
The study’s findings add new urgency to protect ecosystems that may look barren, but may actually be nature’s hothouses for the evolution of new species.
32. Why is South America mentioned in the first paragraph
A. To make comparison. B. To introduce the topic.
C. To explain a fact. D. To draw a conclusion.
33. What determines the rising rate of new species in a place
A. The number of its then species. B. The environment they lived in.
C. The survival skills of species. D. The different biological factors.
34. Which of the following can best explain the underlined word “barren” in the last paragraph
A. Dry and bare. B. Lively and active.
C. Nice and green. D. Complex and unpredictable.
35. What might be the best title for the text
A. Tropical areas are home to large numbers of species.
B. New species prefer to live in the extreme climate.
C. Harsh environments pose a greater threat to species.
D. The worst ecosystem may give birth to new species fastest.

Tips for Submitting a Good Letter of Recommendation
If you consider applying for any colleges abroad, one of the most important parts is the recommendation letter. Its purpose is to give universities a complete picture of you. 36 But a credible(可信的)reference saying you’ve consistently worked hard on a project can be the difference between getting accepted or rejected.
Choose the right references
Universities want to know how well you work under pressure and how you react to criticism, basically your characteristics, abilities and mentality. A good referee (推荐人) should have a solid professional relationship with you and be able to communicate your academic and personal strengths. 37
Most universities ask for two recommendation letters. They are regularly split between a school professor and an extracurricular(课外的)source. Undoubtedly, it’s good to show your skills in the subject you want to study. 38
Time
Professionals can sometimes find it hard to make time for writing recommendations. 39 So give them plenty of time and send them a link of your university’s recommendation letter guidance page, if possible.
Clear goals
Don’t be afraid to ask your referees to include certain qualities or examples you want to highlight. You should inform at least one of your referees about your career goals, grades and recent projects. They may not be referenced. But giving referees additional evidence to back up their points can make the letter more convincing.
40 It’s where you can find what a university lays stress on, as well as some important information such as deadlines and so on.
A. Make sure to know more about your university.
B. You can write that you’re hard-working yourself.
C. They can be quite occupied during application season.
D. The more information you include, the better it may be.
E. Don’t forget to check each university’s guidelines for reference letters.
F. Examples of how you have demonstrated them are needed to add more credibility.
G. But other abilities that may not be apparent in the classroom can be equally valuable.

书面表达
Dear Mr. Smith,
I am Li Hua, a high school student. I am writing to draw your attention to the improper behaviors among students in the reading room of the school library: making too much noise and littering.
As you know, it is difficult for readers to focus while some students are talking to each other or making phone calls. Besides, a noisy and dirty environment is not only bad for our health but also has a negative effect on our studying.
Therefore, in my opinion, some measures should be taken to solve these problem. First, put up some signs that forbid such improper behaviors. Second, ask all the students to pick up their rubbish when they leave.
Thank you for your consideration.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

W: Welcome to Student Life! Today we're going to talk about setting up a project of student jobs in your school. Having students do different jobs around the school is a great way to prepare them for life in the real world. It encourages them to be responsible and also helps them learn new tasks and gain experience. However, it's important to get students excited about the project, so the first thing you should do is let students know this project. Get the headmaster to make an announcement explaining the project. OK Then decide on the jobs you want and write out the descriptions of the skills and responsibilities needed for each position. Some typical jobs are Classroom Assistants. Recycling Officers and Computer Assistants. Next, ask students to apply for the jobs. Students should be encouraged to write letters of application for the job they are interested in. This is a great way to practice letter writing skills! And don't forget, you should make sure that students are guided by a teacher so that they take their responsibilities seriously. A committee then reviews all the application sand gives jobs to the most suitable applicants. Finally, it's important to get opinions from the students about the project, to find out which jobs are successful and which don't go so well.
