Teaching design: the Emphatic Pattern

I. Analysis of the teaching material
The emphatic pattern is an important part of the grammar at Grade 1 in senior high school, which can express the speaker’s will or emotion. The mastery of it will contributes to the listening comprehension, reading comprehension, speaking and writing.
II. Teaching objectives
Language and skills: Students are able to understand the meaning of the emphatic pattern; Students are able to properly write an emphatic pattern. Process and method: a. Students are able to apply the emphatic pattern to speaking ang writing. Emotional attitude and value: Students are able to be grateful for their mothers’ love for them
III. Analysis of the target students
The target students are senior high school students at grade 1. They have seen the emphatic pattern in junior high school’s textbook but have not mastered the usage of it. So a systematic learning of the emphatic pattern at Grade one is of great necessity.

Lead in Show a short video about mothers and ask students to guess who they are; Demonstrate the emphatic patterns about the video. This process is to arouse the students’ interest and let students know the emphatic pattern.
The definition and structure show the definition and the structure of the emphatic pattern; show a short video where a doctor mother met her daughter at the outside of the hospital, and make all kinds of emphatic patterns about it. This process is to let the students know what the emphatic pattern is and how to make an emphatic pattern, and that mothers always want to accompany their children wherever they are.
The judgement Use the above emphatic patterns just made to show how to judge whether a sentence is emphatic pattern give a summary. This process is to let the students know how to judge an emphatic pattern.
The general question Show a short video of Mencius’ mother who moved three times for Mencius learning environment and make two general questions about it; Give a summary This process is to let the students know how to make a general question of the emphatic pattern and that both modern mothers and ancient mothers show sincere love for children.
The special question Show a picture where the mother lion saves the baby lion and a picture where the mother giraffe hit the lions for baby giraffe’s safety and make tow special questions about them; Give a summary This process is to let the students know how to make a special question of the emphatic pattern and that mothers in animal kingdom also demonstrate love for their children.
The special pattern Show a sentence: It was not until I grow up that I realize how it is to be a mother. This process is to let the students know how to make a special pattern of the emphatic pattern.
Summary Ask the students whether they have known how to make and judge an emphatic pattern and appeal to them to love their mother more. This process is to let the students review what they have learned and take actions to love their mothers.
