Teaching Design of Lesson 43 Directions
The teaching aims of this lesson are including knowledge aims, ability aims and emotional attitude. They are:
1. Ss are able to master the words about directions and understand the conversations in this lesson.
2. Ss are able to imitate in a proper pronunciation and intonation and further develop Ss’ abilities of observing/listening/speaking and reading on the topic of directions.
3. Ss are able to master the expressions and key sentence patterns to describe the directions.
4. Nurture Ss’ awareness to use the directions in daily life.
Now I am going to talk about the teaching important point. That is, at the end of the class, Ss can master the sentence patterns and understand the content we’ve learned.
As for the teaching difficult point, that is to use all the expressions flexibly in our daily life.
The teaching methods in this class are situation language teaching method, Communicative language teaching method, Total Physical Response teaching method, Task-based language teaching method. Use different kinds of methods can arose Ss’ interest in learning English.
The learning approaches are Ss cooperating, Ss communicating, TPR, listening, speaking, reading, practicing
Teaching procedure
Step One Leading in. First I use TPR method to interact with the Ss.Then I let the Ss review the 12 months and make up a new song to sing the song along with my harmonica. The intention is to get close to the Ss, and let the Ss relax and come to the new class easily. Then I ask a question:What are four great inventions in ancient China Ss can answer this question in Chinese easily.They also know the compass always points south to arose Ss’ interest in learning the new lesson “Directions”.
Step Two, New presentation. In this part, Then I show the pictures to teach the new words and use TPR method to practise them.Then,let’s chant together like this:
North,north,point up;South,south ,point down;West,west,point left;East,east,point right.After that,Can you help Piggy find the apple Follow the directions below and draw arrows on the map.Ask Ss to draw arrows to help the Piggy find the apple.The intention of doing this is to consolidate the new words and phrases.These all lay a solid foundation to the next step.Ss observe the pictures carefully and try to describe. Ss listen to the tape and answer some simple questions, Ss read after the tape, or read on their own, then answer some hard questions. The intention of doing this is to develop Ss’ abilities of observing, listening, speaking and reading.
Step Three, Consolidation. Ss role-play the conversations, read the questions and answers. Ss try to fill in the mind map. The intention of doing this is to develop Ss’ abilities of thinking and acting.
Step Four Practice activity. In this part, Ss try to fill in the blanks according to the conversation. I will extend some connected knowledge about directions.Ss look at the map of China and try to describe the directions of different provinces of China.Ss try to make new conversations. The intention of doing this is to consolidate the new knowledge and develop Ss’ ability of communicating.
Step Five Conclusion. I conclude what we have learned in this class, and tell Ss the ways to mark and recognize directions.
Step Six, Homework.
a.Take notes carefully.
b.Draw a picture of our town and try to describe the directions of our school,the supermarket and so on.
c.Practise the conversations.
The intention is to activate Ss’ interest in doing and learning in order to use the knowledge we learn. Enable the Ss to be willing to do them rather than be forced.
