Many people believe that you lose the ability to learn new languages as you get older. Language experts, however, will tell you that you’re never too old to learn a new language. As you get older, it can be more difficult to learn a new language, though.
Children and adults learn new languages in different ways. For children, language is their life.
They study for thousands of hours every year. However, adults hardly get the chance to practice as much as young children do.
Moreover, children learning a new language are expected to make mistakes. This gives them freedom when learning to be daring and confident. Adults, however, often feel pressured to be perfect when learning a new language. This can discourage many people and make it even harder to learn a new language.
When young children learn a new language, they come to see multiple languages as a “normal” part of society. This mindset ( 思维模式) helps them learn a new language without
feeling like they’re doing something unusual or “too hard”.
So if you want to learn a new language, go for it! It’s never too late to learn a new language. If you’re older, it may take more work, but it can be done. If you’re a young child, though, now is the time to step out and learn a new language!
21. By “language is their life”, the author means that children .
A. can’t live without language
B. practice a new language a lot
C. live a happy life every day
D. are good at speaking language
22. What may make it hard for the old people to learn a new language

B. can be learned by both the old and the young

B
When Emma first announced about a month ago that she wanted to cut off all her hair, I cried. Not in front of her, of course. In front of her, I asked why and then told her to find a picture on the Internet that she could show to a hairdresser.
And then I went to the shower and cried. I cried not because she wanted to cut her long hair, but because she wanted to “cut it all off like a boy”.
Emma hasn’t worn dresses since she was two. She hates them. Now, at ten, she’s usually wearing shorts and a T-shirt or jersey( 运动衫)一 or something old and stained and acquired for free. When she’s “dressing up” she wears skinny jeans with her black and green Converse high-tops.
I admit her fashion sense has always made me a little sad. When I found out I was having a girl, I ran home and painted the walls pink. I’d teach my girl how to do her hair and paint her nails. But it turns out you don’t give birth to dolls. I got a completely separate and independent human being with ideas and dreams of her own. And I’ve always been amazed at my daughter’s strong sense of self.
25. Why did the author cry
A. Her daughter refused to find a picture on the Internet.
B. She had to pretend to be happy before her daughter.
C. Her daughter wanted to cut off all the long hair like a boy.
D. Her daughter wanted to try a different hair style.
26. What’s the main idea of Paragraph 3
A. Emma’s hating of dresses. B. Emma’s present dressing style.
C. Emma’s spending on clothes. D.Emma’s changing tastes on fashions.

C. A girl that is badly affected by her parents.
D. A girl with a strong personality and sense of self.

A month before my first marathon, one of my ankles was injured and this meant not running for two weeks, leaving me only two weeks to train. Yet, I was determined to go ahead.
I remember back to my 7th year in school. In my first P.E. class, the teacher required us to run laps and then hit a softball. I didn’t do either well. He later told me that I was “not athletic( 矫 健的)”.
The idea that I was “not athletic” stuck with me for years. When I started running in my 30s, I realized running was a battle against myself, not about competition or whether or not I was athletic. It was all about the battle against my own body and mind. A test of wills(意志)!
Shortly after crossing the start line, my shoe laces( 鞋带) became untied. So I stopped to
readjust. Not the start I wanted!
At mile 3, I passed a sign: “GO FOR IT, RUNNERS!”
By mile 17, I became out of breath and the injured ankle hurt badly. Despite(尽管) the pain, I stayed the course walking a bit and then running again.
By mile 21, I was starving!
As I approached mile 23, I could see my wife waving a sign. She is my biggest fan. She never minded the alarm clock sounding at 4 a.m. or questioned my expenses on running.
I was one of the final runners to finish. But I finished! And I got a medal. In fact, I got the same medal as the one that the guy who came in first place had.
Determined to be myself, move forward, free of shame and worldly labels(世俗标签), I can
now call myself a “marathon winner”.
29. A month before the marathon, the author .
A. got enough training B. made up his mind to run
C. was too frightened to run D. lost hope
30. Why did the author mention the P.E. class in his 7th year
A. To thank his teacher for the help. B. To amuse the readers with a funny story.
C. To show he was not talented in sports. D. To share a precious memory.
31. How was the author’s first marathon
A. He got the first prize. B. He gave up halfway.
C. He finished it. D. He walked to the end.
32. What does the story mainly tell us
A. A winner is one with a great effort of will.
B. A man owes his success to his family support(支持).
C. Failure is the mother of success.
D. One is never too old to learn.
D
During the cold winter days, many people will complain(抱怨) the cold winter makes them catch a cold, and what they feel upset are not only the headache and cough, but also the runny nose.
Want to stay away from colds Put on a happy face.
Compared to unhappy people, those who are cheerful and relaxed are less likely to suffer from colds, according to a new study. It’s possible that being happy helps the body fight illnesses, say the researchers from New York University.
“It seems that positive feelings may reduce ( 减 少 )the danger of illness,” said the study’s chief researcher Sheldon Cohen.
In an earlier study, Cohen found that people who were cheerful and lively caught coughs and colds less often. People who showed feelings were also less likely to tell their doctors that they felt ill.
In this study, Cohen has interviewed 193 adults every day for two weeks. During the interviews, the people told researchers that they were given colds by doctors and had to stay alone in a room for six days.
The results showed that everyone in the study was equally likely to get ill. But for people who said they felt happy during the research period, their illnesses are less serious and lasted for a shorter time.
Cohen believes that when people experience positive feelings, their body may produce a chemical that helps fight illness and disease. So, if you are worried about your health, look on the bright side more often.
33. What did the study find
A. People who felt happy never got ill.
B. People with positive feelings had less serious illnesses.
C. People with good feelings became ill more easily.
D. People’s feelings didn’t influence their health.
34. According to Cohen, which of the following may help fight illness
A. Eating B. Laughing C. Crying D. Sleeping
35. What is the best title for this passage
A. Smiles can fight colds B. Cause of colds found
C. The danger of colds D. How people get sick
第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多 余选项。
A housewarming party is a special party to be held when someone buys or moves into a new apartment or house. The person who bought the house or moved is the one who holds the party. The party is a chance for friends and family to congratulate the person on the new home. 36 And it is a good time to fill the new space with love and hopefully presents.
37 Some people register a list of things they want or need for their new home at a
local store or stores. Some common things people will put on a gift registry include kitchen tools like knives and things like curtains. Even if there isn't a registry, a good housewarming gift is something to decorate the new house with, like a piece of art or a plant.
38 This is often appreciated since at a housewarming there isn't a lot of food served. There are usually no planned activities like games at a housewarming party. The host or hostess of the party will, however, probably give all the guests a tour of their new home. Sometimes, because a housewarming party happens shortly after a person moves into their new home, people may be asked to help unpack boxes. 39
Housewarming parties get their name from the fact that a longtime ago people would actually bring firewood to a new home as a gift. 40 Now most homes have central heating and don't use fires to keep warm.
A. This was so that the person could keep their home warm for the winter.
B. It also gives people a chance to see what the new home looks like.
C. You can also bring food or drinks to share with the other guests.
D. If you're lucky enough to receive gifts, keep them in a safe place.
E. It is traditional to bring a gift to a housewarming party
F. The best housewarming parties encourage old friends to get together.
G. This isn't usual though.

第二节(满分 20 分)
阅读下面短文,根据内容写一篇 60 词左右的内容概要。
Nowadays fast food is becoming more and more popular. Have you ever thought twice before deciding to eat fast food Even if it is easy to buy and cheap, the risks outweigh(胜过) the five minutes of satisfaction that fast food brings. There are many risks when it comes to eating food that’s made in just a few of seconds.
What you eat can affect your health. People who love eating fast food are more likely to suffer from different kinds of diseases. Obesity(肥胖) can come when fast food is bought often. Fast food is made from a lot of fats and high calories(卡路里). Even a small quantity of fast food contains many calories. Obesity isn’t the only risk. Heart disease is also a danger. The more fats, sugar and salt you eat, the weaker your heart can grow.
Another problem is that most consumers can’t keep track of(追踪) the sources of the food in fast food restaurants. They never know about the living conditions of the animals killed for meat in those restaurants, like cows, pigs, and chicken. A recent study has shown that bacteria(细菌) have been found in about 38% fast food.
Although fast food is one of the easiest and cheapest ways of eating, the health
risks aren’t worth your life. It is important to eat healthily and make good choices when deciding what to put in your body. Don’t be lazy and pick up fast food on your way home from work.
