What are we celebrating today I asked the above question at the beginning of every one of my classes, whether I was teaching kids or adults. Sometimes I asked it a little differently, as in, "Who has good news " or "Who has something good to say " However I asked it, it always meant the same thing. It was a call for celebrating life, for focusing on what's right and what's good.
This was something that started by accident in the 1970 school year and continued until I stopped classroom teaching in 2001-thirty years of celebrating! Believe it or not, it started as the result of two things that are not so popular among kids: daily news and homework.
When I was teaching courses in history and government in high school, I would always ask students to read the latest news every night. After a few weeks, one student came to me and said, “Dr. Urban, did you notice that most of the news was bad news ” And he was right. Then we had a long class discussion about this, and finally we all agreed on one thing: We needed to receive more good news.
So the next day at the beginning of class I asked, "What are we celebrating today Who has good news Who has something good to say ” Later, I suggested that we should also include good things in our own lives.
They thought it was a great way to start class, and it developed into something that had a profound and lasting impact on both my students and me. Over the years of doing this, we heard just about every bit of good news possible. Some were small things, some were huge things. But the most important was that my students learned to look for the good in everyday life. They looked for it, they found it, and they celebrated it by sharing it with others.
24. What do we know about the author from the passage
A. He was a primary school teacher.
B. He always asked his students to do some news writing.
C. He had been teaching for more than three decades.
D. He used to work in the government.
25. How did the idea of celebrating each day started
A. It started from an accident happened 30 years ago.
B. It started because students wanted to receive some good news.
C. It started to make me popular among kids.
D. It started when I wanted my students to read more news.
26. Why would the author ask about good news at the beginning of each class
A. To celebrate a special day
B. To check students’ homework
C. To learn about students’ life
27. To focus on good things in life
28. What can we infer(推断)from the passage
A. It’s great to focus on the good things in life.
B. The world used to be filled with bad news.
C. The teacher liked to celebrate his first class each year.
D. Only big and important things can be celebrated.

The red wolf, also known as America’s wolf, is the only large predator(捕食性动物) who lives entirely within the United State. But hunting gradually reduced its population in recent years. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced a series of actions to help increase the number of red wolves.
In addition to the current small population in North Carolina, some 240 red wolves now live under human care at zoos and nature centers across the country. Researchers would like to grow the captive animals to a total of 400 so that more can be released(释放)to the wild. These releases need to continue until the wild population hits 40 to 50 animals again and shows signs of taking off. At this point, the red wolves can be best supported by fostering captive pups into wild litters rather than releasing adult and adolescent wolves.
However, releasing captive animals can be a difficult process and it has to be done at the right time. There must be wild baby wolves out there in order for it to be possible. Meanwhile better preparing wolves for release is also going on. To do so, the animals are kept in large fields containing landscape features they would meet in the wild. Roads are difficult to prepare them for, and car accidents are the No.1 cause of death for wild red wolves.
Feeding times are varied to prevent captive red wolves from connecting humans with food. They are also housed in family groups, which would be the same as what they would experience in the wild.
Another important part of saving red wolves is helping people to understand they belong on the landscape—and they aren’t dangerous to humans, and don’t harm local wildlife resources.
33. What can we learn about red wolves from this passage

B. There are more than 400 red wolves now in USA.

B. Living in the wild
C. Very small in number

B. Food shortage
C. Car accident
D. Bad environment
36. Which of the following is NOT mentioned in the passage to increase the number of red wolves
A. Release captive red wolves to the wild
B. Stop hunting red wolves in USA
C. Educate people about red wolves
D. Prepare captive red wolves to the life in the wild.

One day, a teacher decided to inspire her students in high school. She called each student to the front of the class, one at a time. She told them how the student made a difference to her and the class and she gave each of them a blue card which read, "Thank you for being here. Who you are makes a difference."
Then she decided to pass on this inspiration and kindness to more people. So she gave each of the students three more cards and told them to go out and give the cards to whomever they wanted to give.
One of the boys, Daniel, went to an cleaner on the street. He gave the old man one blue card and said,“Thank you for keeping our city clean and tidy. deserves respect.

读后续写
Surprised but touched, the man took the card. He thought of his old partner, James,
who had been working with him for more than 5 years. He thought about how kind
and generous James had always been and how James had helped him out when he
was in trouble. Of course a partner like James deserved a note like this. He then gave
one blue card to James and asked him to pass the last one on to another person.
James was happy to do so. He went home a bit earlier that day. When he saw his son
back from school, he took out the last blue card and explained everything happened
earlier, and finally, he said, “Daniel, I know I’ve been too busy that I might not pay a
lot of attention to you. I may not say much, but I want you to remember that you are
the best thing that ever happened in my life and I am really grateful to have you as
my son.”
Tears flooded Daniel’s eyes. Only then did he realize how he had misunderstood his
father! It was all because of the small yet magical cards that he sent out first.
