Joseph wrote a book about his life. His people, the Maasai, do not stay in one place for long. They move their villages in search of good grass and fresh water for their cattle (牛). “The cow is the centerpiece of pretty much everything we do,” Joseph explains. “That’s why we move. We can’t move for nothing—we can’t just walk around!”
When he was very young, Joseph spent much of his time looking after his family’s cattle, taking them to look for food and water and watching out for lions. He played on the grassland with his friends.
When Joseph was about six years old, he left his family to attend a boarding school. There, Joseph faced difficulties like other children. For example, he was laughed at because he was fat. But Joseph also faced difficulties most children did not. “Every time school closed for vacation, I had to find my way home,” Joseph says. “That was one of the hardest things: The village might be 5 miles away, or it might be 50. Sometimes I wouldn’t know exactly where my family was. I had to search for them.”
Joseph later attended high school in a city. After graduation, he went to college. Finally, he became a social studies teacher, and now he is teaching seventh and eighth graders at a school.
Every summer, Joseph travels back to the grassland to visit his mother, brothers, and friends. And he takes a group of students with him to see both the beauty and the difficulty of growing up in that part of the country. “I like to show them the other side of the coin.” Joseph says.

Street pavements burst open, houses flattened, and entire villages were destroyed in what’s being described as one of the worst flood disasters to hit Western Europe in more than two centuries. As reported, more than 165 people died, while dozens of others remain missing after a record rainfall caused rivers to overflow into towns and streets across western Germany, Belgium, as well as parts of the Netherlands, Switzerland and northern France. In Liège, Belgium’s third-largest city, water from the Meuse river overflowed Thursday evening into parts of the city center, causing city officials to call for residents (居民) to evacuate the area or seek higher ground.
By the weekend, fears that a dam could burst were calmed, as the water levels in the river began to go down. But many different pieces of debris (碎片) flowing through the river from nearby villages—including parts of homes, street signs and car tires—served as a reminder that it would take weeks and months to fix the damage in the surrounding villages. This may be the worst flooding disaster our country has ever known,” said Belgian Prime Minister Alexander de Croo, who declared Monday a national day of mourning (哀悼). Additional search-and-rescue teams have been brought in from France and Italy to help locate the missing and assist with the cleanup.
In western Germany, the death rose to at least 143 people. Firefighters, meanwhile, say they carried out more than 1, 000 search-and-rescue missions, which became harder by the fact that the floods had cut power lines, disabling cellphone towers. We don’t know the number yet’ but there will be many. Germany’s interior minister, Horst Seehofer, said the country must prepare much better” in the future, adding, “This is a result of climate change.”
32. What disaster hit Western Europe
A. A flood. B. A hurricane.
C. A fire. D. An earthquake.
33. Which of the following can replace the underlined word “evacuate” in paragraph 1

34. What measure did the government take
A. Reviving the power line. B. Setting a national holiday.
C. Preparing the next election. D. Searching for the missing people.
35. What can we infer from Horst Seehofer’s words
A. The natural risk becomes more severe.

Having stayed in the hospital for several days, my aunt’s situation became worse and worse. Mom knew what was to come, and this frightened us all. On the day Mom and my aunt were leaving for Turkey, Dad and I sent them to the airport. We had bought a wheelchair for my aunt because she did not have enough strength to walk. When I saw my aunt sitting in the wheelchair, my tears started to fall out of my face. “Everything is going to be alright,” Mom said while leaving the car.

My aunt was put on so much medicine and serums (血清), and her whole room was filled with things that her body needed Mom once took a photo from outside my aunt’s room. Dear Terry,
How time flies! It has been nearly four months since you came here. As for the coming final exam, I’d like to give you the following advice.
First, you should make a workable plan to review. Second, it’s necessary that you should review all the contents that teachers mentioned in classes. Third, I think you had better check the mistakes you made in your homework in case you make the same mistakes in the exams. I sincerely hope that you will do well in the final exam.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节:
参考范文:
A day later, my aunt’s condition was uncontrollable. The doctors announced that there was no hope anymore because everything that my aunt had was low, including her heart rate. Hearing that, Mom cried and begged every doctor there to do something to fix her sister’s condition. The doctors just said they had tried their best. However, something amazing happened a week later. It seemed that my aunt was doing much better. And she could even talk with my mom. The doctors said there was a chance to live.
Mom told us the good news immediately. We could not have been happier at that moment. We patiently waited and prayed for my aunt to survive this crazy journey. As my aunt got better and better, Mom decided to take her back home. As soon as they both came back, I rushed to give them both a huge hug. “We did it,” my aunt cheered happily. While I was hugging her, I felt so excited at the same time, thinking I was so fortunate to see her again.
