Part 1: The analysis of the teaching material
1. The analysis of teaching content:
The passage in this part is how US organizations help people give up smoking. Four Ds coming from the California Smokers’ Helpline are given to help people who want a cigarette. After that, follow some ideas to help people to give up smoking.
2. The analysis of the students’ situation:
Students of this stage are quick in thought and they are eager to show what they know and they have a certain ability to read .But they are lack of knowledge about smoking, and vocabulary to express their ideas of it.
Most of the students are afraid to talk in public, so the class atmosphere is not very easy.
Part 2: Teaching aims

(1) Develop students’ communicating skills.
(2) Improve the students’ reading ability.
(3) Enable the Ss to talk about the ways of keeping away from smoking and drug addiction.
(4) Grasp the main idea of the passage in reading and vocabulary.
(5) Help the Ss learn how to be far away from smoking and drug addiction.
2. Methods and progress
2.1. Teaching methods:
Fast reading, intensive reading, writing, speaking, explanation, analyzing and discussion.
(1). Task-Based Language Teaching
The students can get the meaning of the words and phrases. Practice can help the students get the general idea and have a better understanding of the dangers of smoking.
(2). Communicative Approach
Discussion, pair work and group work can help students to express their idea bravely and clearly.
2.2. Teaching progress:
(1)Make them discuss in class through organizing some practice activities.
(2)Discussion to help the students prepare for reading.
(3)Explanation to help the students understand the passage better.
3、Emotion and Values
Through the study of this period, students will surely get an all-round understanding of the bad habit--- smoking. Hence, it helps them develop a good living habit.

1)Talk about the ways of giving up smoking and have a full understanding of drug problem in the UK.

Step 1 Revision
Greet the students as usual.
Check their homework.
Design reason: Review what the students have learnt last period.
Step 2 Lead-in
Suppose your father is a heavy smoker, how can you persuade him out of smoking? Discuss it with your partner and then speak out your possible ways.
The students can think of various ways. Try to encourage them to use their head.
Today, we’ll learn some other way of giving up smoking. Let’s come to the cultural corner.
Design reason: Train students’ logic thinking ability, and discussion, communication.
Step 3 Reading
Read the passage and answer these questions.

After they finish the questions, give more students chances to present themselves.

Design reason: Use the method to improve students’ interest, make the class atmosphere lively and easy, also a way to exchange ideas.
Step 4 Task
Work in groups. (Put the students into group of four as usual.) Make a list of the danger of smoking. Use information from new items that you have seen in magazines or on TV. If possible, go to the Internet for some information.
2) Discuss the items in your list with other members of your group.
Ask the students to compare their lists with their group members and produce the best list for the group.
3) Discuss these questions.

While they are discussing, one of the members writes down some key points in hope of giving some help for next activity.
(They may give possible answers.)
4). Prepare a presentation for the rest of the class based on the discussion above.
If time permits, give each group a chance to present their work.
Design reason: Let students understand more about the dangers of smoking, discussion can make them dare to speak, to express their ideas in public; it is a progress for speaking.
Step 5 Summary
The teacher summarizes this period. Through the study of this period, the students know more about the dangers of smoking. They will not smoke in the future and help their relatives and friends give up smoking.
Design reason: Students can know more knowledge about the dangers of smoking, moreover, the consolidation of the new knowledge.
Step 6 Homework:
Go over this module and finish all the exercise on workbook.
Design reason: Recall of the language points and consolidation of this module.

In our teaching, we should set up the “big class” concept,pay more attention to the action. Senior High class, stress on students’ tie-up between experience and social reality. Only this connection exists, students can be the owner of class.
