Unlike the other part of the body, your ears don’t ask for much. They don’t need to be brushed once a day like your teeth. But they really need some special care, especially if you like listening to music with earphones.
Maybe your mum or dad has told you, “Turn that down before you go deaf!” Well, they are quite right. Loud noise may cause hearing problems for a short time or even for ever.
American doctors have studied a group of 4,490 people who used earphones more than 15 hours every week. The doctor found that 3,730 of them were getting hearing problems.
If you use earphones too long, your ears may feel painful. You could also lose your hearing for the rest of your life.
So don’t wear your earphones too long. Use them less than one hour a day. Want good hearing? Don’t forget to do the following:
Try to stay away from places with too much noise, like a disco. If you have to go, wear earplugs.
When swimming, remember to put earplugs into your ears to stop water from getting in.
Never put anything sharp into your ear. If you think you have too much earwax(耳屎), ask your mum or dad to help you clean it out.
Please remember these things! Then you won’t be saying “What???” when you are older.

The United States of America covers a large part of North America. Its neighbours are Canada to the north, and Mexico to the south. Though the USA is a big country, it is not the largest in the world.
Washington D.C. is the country’s capital. Its population is over three million. Several other cities like New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Philadelphia and so on have an even larger population. Washington D.C. is only the eighth largest city in the country, but it is one of the most beautiful cities.
When the land first became a nation after winning its independence(独立) from England, there were only 13 states. All those states were in the eastern part of the continent. As the nation grew toward the west, new states were added. For a long time, there were 48 states, in 1959, Alaska joined the union and four years later Hawaii became the 50th state. Among the 50 states, Alaska is the biggest. Texas is smaller than Alaska but it is much bigger than the other 48 states. Most Americans, who went in the early days and in greatest numbers to make their homes on the eastern coast of North America were from England, so the language of the USA is English and its culture and customs are more like those of England than of any other country in the world.
