Arbeia Roman Fort and Museum
Location and History
Arbeia Roman Fort is situated on Hadrian's Wall. It was the most important structure built by the Romans in Britain, and now it has been a World Heritage Site. Built around AD 160, Arbeia Roman Fort was the military supply base for the soldiers who were stationed along Hadrian's Wall. The fort has been gradually uncovered and some original parts have been revealed. There are reconstructions that show how Arbeia Roman Fort would have looked.
The Reconstructions
The reconstructions of the Commanding Officer's house and soldiers' quarters are strikingly different. The accommodation for soldiers is dark and uncomfortable, while the Commanding Officer's house is spacious and luxurious, with courtyards with fountains for him and his family to enjoy.
The Museum
Visit the museum and see many objects that were found at Arbeia. They are historically important and show what daily life was really like at that time. You will see weapons, tools, jewellery, and so on. You can also discover how the Romans buried their dead and see tombstones which survive to this day. There is a "hands-on" area allowing visitors to dig on a certain site and study their findings with the help of museum staff. You can piece together pottery (陶器), or try writing just as the Romans would have done. For children, they can build this Roman fort with building blocks by themselves.
Opening Times and Getting There April 1—October 31: Monday to Saturday 10:00am—5:00pm, Sunday 2:00pm—5:00pm. November 1—March 31: Monday to Saturday 11:00am—4:00pm, closed Sunday. (Closed December 25—26 and January 1) Entry is free. Arbeia is only a ten—minute walk from the bus station at South Shields. Free car park nearby. Website: www.twmuseums.org.uk/arbeia

You've probably heard the expression "It's raining cats and dogs." Thankfully, our furry friends don't actually fall from the sky. But what about other animals In 1870, snails fell on Chester, Pennsylvania. Frogs rained on ancient Greece and modern-day Siberia. And fish are the most common kind of animal rain! What's really going on here
The most likely explanation is that spinning winds of a tornado act like a giant vacuum(真空吸尘器), sucking up fish and other life living in water. High up in the air, wind can bring them along for miles until they drop back to earth during a rainstorm.
Another idea is that it only appears that animals are coming down in the rain. Frogs and other creatures in beauty sleep can be flooded out of their resting places by a heavy downpour. When dozens of frogs are forced to the surface at once, it can look like they fell from the sky.
Of course, people don't always use science to explain animal rain. Every spring, small fish are found on the streets of Yoro, Honduras, after a heavy rainstorm. According to a local tale, a priest(牧师) prayed for the hungry villagers for three days, and then fish rained from the sky.
Scientists examined the fish rain in Yoro for one year and discovered that the fish are blind. That was a clue! Sightless fish are commonly found in caves. So instead of tailing from the sky, it is likely that these fish are being washed to the surface from flooded underground rivers.
While animal rain is unusual, it may become slightly more common. Whether fish and frogs are sucked up by tornadoes or washed out of their homes by floodwaters, as climate change warms the atmosphere, animal rain will continue to be part of our rough weather.
So the next time you witness a downpour, put out a bucket. You just might catch dinner!
24.What does the author want to express in paragraph 1
A.It is raining heavily outside.
B.Animal rains do exist.
C.It's hard to understand a famous saying.
D.The climate is getting worse and worse.
25.What does the second idea about animal rain suggest
A.Only fish can come down in the rain.
B.Rainstorms wake up the animals in sleep.
C.Animals do not really fall from the sky.
D.Animal rain is beyond people's imagination.
26.What attitude may scientists hold to the tale in Yoro
A.Favorable. B.Disapproving. C.Critical. D.Respectful.
27.Which of the following could be the best title for the text
A.Animals in the Rain B.The Mysterious Nature
C.Benefits of Heavy Rains D.It's Raining Fish and Frogs!

U.S. actor Brent Hill studied the violin for seven years during his childhood. But, now, he couldn’t make a sound out of it. His latest role as Dewey Finn in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical, School of Rock, in which he plays with 36 talented child musicians, reminds him of his time as an instrumentalist.
Hill shared his story on arriving in Beijing. School of Rock is being staged in Beijing from March 22 until April 14 on its debut China tour. The musical staged its world premiere on Broadway in 2015.
The musical is based on the successful 2003 Hollywood comedy, starring Jack Black. The plot follows Dewey Finn, a failed rock star forced to make money as a substitute teacher at a private elementary school, where he turns a class of straight-A students into a rock band.
“The role, Dewey, is the biggest kid. I am a big kid in real life, so this part is not challenge. When I got the role, I did the exact same thing as Dewey who is a loser,” Hill says. “Working with child actors is exciting.”

It’s the first time for the girl, who lives in Sydney with her Chinese parents, to visit China.
Webber became interested in the movie. He wrote 12 new songs. Hill says it’s difficult to get Black’s acting out of his subconsciousness. However, Webber’s songs enable Hill to make the role his own.

I walked into a restaurant and sat down at a table. I picked up a menu, trying to decide what to eat.“Excuse me. Is your name Roger ” asked someone, who touched me on the shoulder. I looked up and turned to the side to see a rather nice looking woman standing before me. “Yes.” I replied, looking rather confused as I had never seen the woman before.
“My name is Barbara and my husband is Tony. He is from George High School.” she said, pointing to a distant table near the door. I looked in the direction but I did not recognize the man who was sitting alone at the table, with a wheelchair (轮椅) around the corner.
“I'm really sorry. The name doesn't ring a bell.”I said.
She turned and walked back to her table. She and her husband immediately began talking and once in a while looked directly at me.
I sat there, thinking hard and tried to remember who this Tony guy was. “I must know him, ”I thought to myself. “He recognizes me for some reason.” I picked up my coffee and took a sip. All of a sudden, it came to me like a flash lightning.
“Tony. THE BULLY (校园霸凌者). The bully of my seventh grade geography class.” I said to myself. I turned around and faced in his direction.
How many times that guy had made fun of my big ears in front of girls How many times he called me “four-eyed toad” How many times he pushed me up against the lockers just to make himself look like a big man to all the other students
He raised his hand and waved at me. I smiled, returned the wave and turned back and began to eat my breakfast.
“Goodness. He's so thin now. Not the big guy that I remembered,” I thought to myself.
All of a sudden I heard the sound of dishes breaking so I turned around to see what had happened.

One possible version:
All of a sudden I heard the sound of dishes breaking so I turned around to see what had happened. Tony had accidentally hit several plates and knocked them off the table. Tony and his wife looked very embarrassed. They apologized over and over again towards the waitress. They looked so helpless that I got up and went over. I helped his wife pick up the broken dishes from the ground. To my great surprise, I found from the waist down, Tony had no motor ability. His thin legs just hung there, lifeless.
“Could you help me get into the wheelchair ” asked Tony. “No problem,” I said. I reached around his waist and carefully raised him up into the wheelchair. “You remember. Don’t you ” he said, looking directly into my eyes. “Yes, I do,” I smiled. “I guess you’re thinking “What goes around comes around”, he said, softly. “No, never, Tony,” I said. I found tears in his eyes. I handed my name card to him. “Give me a call sometimes. We’ll do lunch,” I told him. We both laughed.
