录音原文
Text 1
W : This is the third time you’ve been late this week. You’ll have to do better than that, or we might find it necessary to let you go.
M : It won’t happen again. I promise.
Text 2
W : It’s nearly 10 o’clock. Let’s listen to the weather forecast.
M : Here’s the weather forecast. Fog is spreading from the east, and it’ll affect all areas by midnight. It’ll be heavy in some places.
Text 3
W : Did you watch the game last night?
M : I wouldn’t have missed it for anything. You know I’m a fan.
Text 4
M : Where’s Joan? She said she would be here at 3, and now it’s 3:30. She must have missed the train.
W : I think so. I hope she doesn’t miss the next one; otherwise she’ll be late for the opening address at the conference.
Text 5
M : This has been the worst flood in the past 20 years. It has caused much damage and destruction.
W : Look at the prices of fruits and vegetables. No wonder they are so expensive.
Text 6
W : I’m looking for an apartment.
M : An apartment? Why?
W : I’m trying to find a place near the office.
M : Where are you living now?
W : 20 miles south of the city. It’s a long trip to work every day.
M : Apartments in the city are expensive, you know.
W : Yes, but I have to find on because I’m going to need more time in the city. I’ll be attending a night course in business at Chicago University.
Text 7
W : Good morning, sir! Can I help you?
M : Yes, good morning! I’d like to buy a copy of today’s Evening Post.
W : Yes, here it is.
M : Thank you. How much is it?
W : Evening Post. It’s one dollar.
M : OK! And I’m also looking for the New Yorker. Do you have that?
W: Yes, certainly, sir! Here it is. The latest issue.
M : How much is that?
W : That’s two dollars fifty cents.
M : OK! I’ll take both of them.
Text 8

M : So am I. What a disappointment!
W : Come on, cheer up!
M : No, I feel terrible. And our classmates ….
W : But you tried your best, didn’t you?
M : Yes, I did.
W : You won’t give up trying, will you?
M : No, I won’t. I’ll do better next time.
W : I’ll help you. We can practice together.
M : That would be great.
W : Then don’t look so sad.
M : I’ll try to cheer up.
W : You’ll get over it.
M : I know, thank you.
W : Come on, I’ll buy you a coffee.

W : I hope so. I’d like to ask for information about flights from Beijing to London.
M : Do you want to fly direct, or do you want to stop over somewhere on the way?
W : Oh, no, I want to go direct. As fast and as cheaply as possible.
M : In that case, you have a choice of two airlines. CAAC flies once a week. It costs about 2,000 pounds for a return ticket and half of that for a single fare.

W : It’s a great college.
M : Yes, it is. My father would like me to go there. He and my grandpa both went there.
W : Good medical school, too.
M : Indeed. But I’d like to get my own way.
W : What do you want to study?
M : I’ve been thinking. I want to study journalism to be a reporter – a newspaperman.
W : You do a pretty good job on the high school paper.
M : And I’ve been think about it a lot lately.
W : Have you discussed it with your parents?
M : No, but I have to.
Text 11
I’ll still be working, but things will be different. With any luck, I’ll be earning more money, but the most important thing will be the job itself and how interesting it is. I mean, I hope I’ll be able to choose the kind of job I do and who I work for. Of course, I’d like to have more money and more power than I have now, but I don’t think that’s the only thing in life. What I really wants is to be more independent than I am now and to have more control over my own life. Perhaps open a small restaurant, or write a book or something like that. I’m not really sure if I’ll ever have children or even if I want to be married. It all depends. Of course, if I meet the right person, anything could happen! But I won’t feel that my life is empty and meaningless if I’m still living alone in ten years or even twenty years from now. Not at all! My mother is always saying, “”There’s nothing like a good relationship! But I’m not so sure. There’s nothing worse than a really bad one, either!

W: How was your vacation? Did you go away?
M: Yes, we went to Maine. Unfortunately, the fries and mosquitoes were bad and it rained most of the time. It’s too bad because I used to enjoy going there.
(Text 2)
W: Do you walk to work every day?
M: No, it is too far to walk. Luckily the bus goes right by my house. But when the bus is crowded and when it rains, I often wish I had a car.
(Text 3)
M: Judy, how come you could not give me your report today? You’ve known for months it was due today.
W: I know…but I’m afraid I need miother few days. The material I got was harder to interpret than I thought it would be.
(Text 4)
W: You look upset. What’s wrong?
M: Well. I’ve been staying up very late. The exams are coming, you know. I often go without anything. Yesterday I began to get headache.
W: You shouldn’t have missed any meals. Perhaps you need to see a doctor.
(Text 5)
w: Is everything all right, sir?
M: I’m afraid there’s a fly in my soup.
w: Oh, you’re right. Is it dead?
M: I don’t care if it’s dead or alive. Just take it away, please, and bring me some more — without a fly!
(Text 6)
M: Are you interested in this model, madam?
W: I’m not sure. It’s a little confusing.
M: What exactly isn’t clear, madam?
W: Well, I was wondering (6)whether it’s comfortable to drive.
M: Oh yes, it’svery comfortable. (6)It has lovely seats, but with good support for your back.
W: Right. Now, there are four ofus, and we drive quite a long way on holiday so there’s usually a lot of luggage. (7)I need a larger one.
M: Well, let’s have a look…
(Text 7)
M: Hi, (8)three of them still haven’t arrived yet. Have you called them already?
W: Sure. (8)But I’m afraid we have to wait for a while. Peter should have arrived ifhis wife had not been sick this morning. He told lne to give him 15 minutes.
M: Is there anyone who has called in sick?
W: No. Patrick’s alarm clock didn’t workthis moming, so (9)he got up late. But he’s on his way.
M: Could you contact Samson? I tried to contact him a while ago,but it seemed that his phone was off.
W: So I called his wife instead and I learned that he is in Paris and won’t come back until Friday. (10)He goes there to attend a funeral. His old friend’s father died.
M: I’m sorry to hear that.
(Text 8)
M: So, I want to borrow $3, 000. How much will I have to pay back in total?
W: Well, if you borrow $3, 000 over three years, (11)it’ll be $3, 831. That’ll be…$106 per month.
M: Hmm. That sounds good.
W: Well. I know that it’s not a very pleasant thought, but, well…What would happen if you lost your job? And what about if you were seriously ill…or even if you died. Would your family be able to pay back this money?
M: I don’t see what you’re saying.
W: Well. (12)we normally advise our borrowers to take out some kind of insurance. So if anything happens to you, you won’t have to worry about your repayments.

(Text 9)
M: Hi, Amy, I want to ask you about the dancing courses provided to our schoolmates.
W: Alfight. I plan to offer three courses. They are the Waltz course, the Cha Cha course, and the Tango course.
M: Are these courses composed of the same number of lessons?
W: No, since (14)Cha Cha is relatively more difficult than the Waltz and Tango, I think it will take up six lessons. And four lessons for the others will be enough.
M: Alright. What about the dates and time of the courses?
W: As for the Cha Cha course, we hired a professional dancing teacher Sandy to teach. As far as I know, she is only free on Sunday mornings, from 10:00 to 12:00. And (15)(16)the Waltz and the Tango course will be taught by me and Mary, respectively. It seems that (16)I’m free on every Tuesday afternoon from 3:30 to 5:30. Mary made it on every Monday afternoon, from 4:00 to 6:00.
M: Wm all these courses be held inthe School Hall?
