(Text 9)
M: Josie, do you remember Jeff in my office
W: Yeah. I have seen him before at your party, and you have told me something about him.
M: He left last week.
W: Left Really Do you know why
M: He didn’t come in by Tuesday, so on Tuesday afternoon I called to see whether he was off the day or he was sick.
W: And what did he say
M: No answer. (13) I talked to my boss, and it seems that he tried to call Jeff the morning before me. But he couldn’t get
through either.
W: Strange.
M: Anyway, by the end of the day, (14) Jeff sent an e-mail explaining everything.
W: An e-mail So, why did he leave
M: Well, (15) he found a new job last month, but he forgot to tell us about it.
W: (16) You’re joking! How can anyone do that
(Text 10)
W: Well, my name is Cindy and recently, I’ve finished a tour which is not the type of thing I’d usually go for. (17) But
because we won it, we didn’t have to pay anything. We didn’t get off to a good start, though, because the bus from the airport to
the hotel was awful. It took ages. The trip was all-inclusive, so all drinks and meals were included in the price. The drinks were
fantastic! (18) The hotel food was either tasteless or too hot, but the waiters were all friendly and knowledgeable at least. John
decided he wanted to take a trip to a museum, so I went along. (19) Actually, I didn’t really like it. It was pretty disappointing. I
surely preferred being near the ocean. The beach was amazing and I went there several times. In the second week, John went
off on his own into the mountains, but (20) I stayed in the hotel. I once tried going on an elephant ride, but it was terrible.
Elephants frightened me, so I gave up. The two weeks went by so quickly. We got back last night and, all in all, I think it was a
great trip, really relaxing. I’m so glad we entered the competition.

参考范文:
Dear Alice,
How are you Winter vacation is approaching, and I’m planning to make a tour to Sydney. What a good chance it is to see
you in your hometown! Since it’s my first visit to Sydney and your first-hand experience will be more convincing than travel
agents’, I really need your advice.
First of all, what are the best places of interest you would recommend, the beach, the castles, or the museums Besides, it’s
summer now in Australia, so I cannot help wondering how hot it is and what kind of clothes I should wear. Apart from that, it’d
be greatly appreciated if you could give me some more detailed information about Sydney, such as local snacks, festivals and
traditions. Is there anything else I need to pay special attention to
Couldn’t wait to meet you and look forward to your early reply.
Yours,
Li Hua

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选岀能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项
Years ago, I wanted to make something of myself in my profession. However, I realized that the most
important things in life lived within the walls of my own home. My kids wouldnt remember me for the work I did
36
Therefore, I enjoy spending time with my family. We go hiking together. 37 Breathe in the freshest air
and feel the peace that only being in nature can bring to you and the people you love
38 When I do this, I can focus on the kids without the distractions (Tii)of video games or the Internet
It sounds easy, but when you are on a hot, 12-kilometer hike through the desert, you have to come up with ideas
off the top of your head
Safety is always a concern when hiking with kids. Although you wont need any specialized equipment, it is
always smart to take enough water and snacks for everyone Make the hiking exciting and challenging for them
Plan plenty of breaks, for example by a lake, in a restaurant or at a deer park. Please do your part to
preserve these areas because they are wonderful pieces of nature
Hiking together doesn't mean we don' t have problems now. All families face challenges in their lives, and
our family is no exception. However, we try to talk openly about our problems, and we try to solve our problems
together. 40
