在西方的传说中，上帝第一天创造了太阳，所以把Sunday这一天作为一星期的第一天。另外一种说法是源自基督教，基督教徒每周第一天用来做礼拜，表示虔诚，做礼拜的这一天正好是周日，所以一周就又叫一个礼拜。 做礼拜的那天就是礼拜天，也就是周日。
