Dear Xiao Dong,
I’m sorry you are having trouble in learning English in senior high school .However, the
situation is easy to change if you take my advice .
To begin with, why not try to communicate with others in English If you do so, you will feel
confident gradually. Also, don’t be afraid of making mistakes because everyone makes mistakes.
Besides, you should keep on reading about English sentences every morning and evening. Last but
not least, it would be a good idea if you read more English newspapers and watch English movies.
I hope you’ll find these ideas useful.
Yours,
Li Hua

读后续写范文
Slowly, Peter raised his hand. “Mr. White, I didn’t get 100 percent on the test. I missed a
word.” He stood up, handing his teacher the dictionary he liked best and his test paper. “ I spelled
contribution with ‘s-i’ instead of ‘t-i’.” Peter could feel his classmates looking at him with surprise
as he walked back to his desk. Mr. White held up Peter’s test paper. “Class,” he said, “ Peter did
something even more important than spelling every word correctly on a test.” Mr. White smiled
at Peter. “ He taught us all a lesson on being honest.”
Peter looked around and found many of his classmates were smiling at him. “Peter, I want
you to have this dictionary because you set a good example for all of us,” Mr. White said. Peter
took the dictionary from Mr. White and expressed his thanks to him. Meanwhile, he couldn’t wait
to show it to Mum and tell her one of his best days ever.

第一节:阅读下列短文,选择最佳选项(共 15 小题,每题 2.5 分,共 37.5 分)
A
Four Wild Animal Species Were Endangered
Maybe you can still see them at the zoo. But that doesn’t mean they’re doing alright in the wild.
Tigers
All six tiger species are endangered, with Sumatran tigers and South Chin tigers at a seriously
endangered status. The main reasons for their population decline are illegal hunting and destroyed
habitats(栖息地), as humans clear forests to gather timber(木材)and build roadways. Only about
3890 tigers presently live in the wild.
Ground squirrels
That’s right, even squirrels are endangered, specifically the San Joaquin ground squirrel. Native
to California, USA, these guys have been disappearing since 1979 on account of the construction
and human development going through their habitat. Their total population is unknown, but it
could be anywhere between 124000 and 413000.
Giraffes
The International Union for the Conservation of Nature recently put giraffes at a vulnerable(脆
弱的) status, the level just before endangered. The giraffe population has declined 40 percent in
高一英语学科试卷 第 2 页 (共 8 页)
the last 30 years, primarily due to loss of habitat and illegal hunting. Some giraffes are killed just
for their tails, which are considered status symbols in Africa.
Asian elephants
The main threat to Asian elephants, one of the most intelligent animals, is their shrinking
habitat. As the human population grows, people invade their land to build roads and railway tracks.
Elephants in Myanmar are at an especially high risk for being captured and traded or used
illegally in the tourist industry. Fewer than 50000 are left on the entire continent.

Michele Gentile, an Italian bookseller, is offering free books to children in exchange for
plastic bottles to recycle.
Michele owns Ex Libris Cafe in Polla,a small town in southern Italy. He said he thought of
the recycling program, because he wanted to inspire children in the small town to read and pay
attention to the environment.
''My goal is to spread the passion and love for books among those people in Italy who do not
usually read while at the time helping the environment," Gentile explained.
The idea for the initiative (倡议) came after Gentile collaborated with a nearby middle
高一英语学科试卷 第 4 页 (共 8 页)
school on an aluminum recycling project. Working together, the schoolchildren and Gentile
collected enough cans to purchase books for an entire classroom. His new program has already
spread into northern Italy: Gentile's hopes his work will continue to make headlines and become a
worldwide initiative.
The free books come from customers in Gentile's shop who have donated money to purchase
a ''suspended" book. The idea comes from a World War II practice in which customers would buy
two Coffees: one for themselves and another for the next person in line. Gentile has been using
the extra books as part of his recycling initiative,
While Gentile's program is a great way to recycle and get kids to read, it also brings
awareness to the growing problem of plastic waste. Single-use plastics make up around 26 percent
of all the plastics in the world, only 14 percent of which are recycled. Plastics that end up in
landfills take around 500 years to decompose (分解),is a major concern for environmentalists.

and recycling programs like Gentile's book giveaway are a great way to meet that goal.

C. To collect money for a new project. D. To inspire reading and recycling.
33. How did Gentile come up with the idea

C. Donating books for a local school. D. Buying a “suspended” book for a child.

A. The local government. B. Gentile himself. C. Some publishers. D. His customers.
35. Which of the following is the best title for the text
A. An Italian's Reading Initiative B. Recycling Can Get Kids Free Books
C. Michele's Way of Doing Business D. A New Way to Deal with Plastic Waste

第二节:读后续写(满分 25 分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续
写词数为 150 左右。
Peter woke up early in the morning. He went downstairs in a hurry and started to have his
breakfast as quickly as possible. “Why are you in such a hurry, my early bird ” Mum asked him.
“We will have an English spelling test today, Mum,” Peter said. “Mr. White promised to offer
prizes to those who get 100 points. I’ve been studying the word list since last week. Although the
words are difficult, I am well prepared for them.”
Peter reviewed the spelling of each word once more carefully when Dad drove him to school.
At last, it was time for the students to have a test. “Responsibility,” Mr. White started. Peter wrote
it on his test paper quickly and confidently. “The second word: contribution.” Mr. White said. “ So
easy.” Peter thought. He quickly wrote the word down.
Thirty words later, the test papers were collected by Mr. White. “I am to mark your papers now,”
he told the class. After marking the test papers, Mr. White said, “ Three of you won a prize today
for excellent test scores. Peter, David and Mary got 100 percent on the spelling test!”
Mr. White praised them. Meanwhile, he gave the three students each a dictionary. Peter’s was
an English-Chinese dictionary—the one he liked best. Peter was so excited that he held it high
when his classmates cheered. “ This is my happiest moment.” Peter thought.
After Mr. White gave the test paper back, Peter had a look at the words, feeling proud of his
spelling. All of a sudden, the word “contribution” confused him. It didn’t seem right. Peter began
to compare them after taking out the word list. “C-o-n-t-r-i-b-u-s-i-o-n,” he said in a low voice.
He had spelled it wrong. “ What am I to do ” Peter said to himself. “ I expect my classmates to
think I am a master in spelling. If I tell Mr. White one of my spelling words is wrong, I’ll have to
give my prize back, or I will become an example of telling a lie.”
Looking at the red sign “ 100 percent ” which was written at his test paper, Peter was lost in
thought. After a while, he remembered a lesson Mum used to teach him, “We ought to be an
honest person.”
