In China, many people are leaving the countryside to find jobs in the cities, because the countryside is much poorer than the city, and often there isn't much work there. Services such as hospital and transport are
usually much better in the city than in the countryside. They hope that their lives will improve when they move to the city.
But in the big cities of Europe like London or Paris, people are moving out of the city. These rich families want to live a quieter life. They are tired of the noise and the dirt of the city, and they are tired of the crowded streets, crowded trains and buses. They don't want to live in the cities any more. They want a house with a garden in the countryside, and breathe the fresh air there.
So they move out of the cities. Some don't go very far, just a little way out of the city, to the towns near the cities. Other people move to the real countryside with sheep, cows and green fields. There, they start new lives and try to make new friends.
Not all those who move from the city to the countryside are happy. After two or three years, many people who have done this feel that it was a big mistake. They don't make so much money and there isn't much work to do. People in the countryside are very different and aren't always very friendly.
As a result, quite a lot of people who have moved to the countryside move back to the city. "It's wonderful to see crowds in the streets and cinema lights," they say.

We have arrived in the hot, wet city of Bangkok. This is our first trip to Thailand(泰国). All the different smells make us want to try the food. We are going to eat something special for dinner tonight. The hotel we are staying in is cheap, and very clean. We plan to stay here for a few days, visit some places in the city, and then travel to Chiang Mai in the North.
Tuesday, March 27th
Bangkok is wonderful and surprising. The places are interesting. We visited the famous market which was on water, and saw a lot of fruits and vegetables. Everything is so colorful, and we have taken hundreds of photos already! Later today we will leave for Chiang Mai. We will take the train north, stay in Chiang Mai for two days, and then catch a bus to Chiang Rai.
Friday, March 30th
Our trip to Chiang Rai was long and boring. We visited a small village in the mountains. The village people here love the quiet life—no computers or phones. They are the kindest people I have ever met. They always smile and say“hello”. Kathy and I can only speak a few words of Thai, so smiling is the best way to show our kindness. The summer I was ten, my mother decided to bring us to the world of art. My brother and I were not very excited when we realized what my mother meant. What she meant was not that we could take drawing classes or painting classes but that we would have to spend one afternoon a week with her at the Fine Arts Museum. Before each visit to the museum, she made us read about artists and painting styles. It was almost as bad as being in school. Who wants to spend the summer thinking about artists when you could be with your friends at the swimming pool?
First we had to read about ancient Egyptians(古埃及人) and their strange way of painting faces and then go to look at them at the museum. My 12-year-old brother thought this was so funny, but I was not interested. Later we had to learn about artists in the Middle Ages who painted people wearing strange long clothing. We had to look at pictures of fat babies with wings and curly hair and with no clothes on flying around the edges of paintings. I certainly couldn't see what was so great about art.
On our last visit to the museum, something happened when I saw a painting by a woman called Mary. In it, a woman was reading to a child. The colors were soft and gentle, and you could tell by the mother’s expression how happy she was just to be with the child. I couldn't stop looking at this painting! I wanted to see every painting Mary had ever made! It was really worth looking at so many paintings to find a painter who could interest me so much.
66. The aim of the mother’s plan was to _________.
A. take them to visit the museum B. introduce them to the world of art
C. ask them to read about artists D. show them different painting styles
67. What was the writer’s experience in the museum before the last visit?
A. She came to feel her mother’s love. B. She liked many paintings.
C. She hardly enjoyed herself. D. She could understand the pictures of fat babies.
68. What made the writer go through a change that summer?
A. One of Mary's paintings. B. A strange way of painting.
C. Artists in the Middle Ages. D. Her mother’s instruction.
69. From the text, we can see _________.
A. the importance of curiosity B. the effect of art
C. the value of learning D. the power of family education
70. The writer and her brother had thought that they could ___________ in their summer vacation.
A. visit some art museums B. go to Egypt for a visit
C. take drawing or painting classes D. play with their friends.

Are you having trouble studying for that big test? Do you go completely blank as soon as your teacher passes the test papers around? Now here are lots of helpful homework tips that'll send you on your way to acing your next big exam!
Set aside a specific(特定的) time to do your homework and studying every day. Whether that's right after school or after supper, a set schedule can often help you focus a lot easier. Don't try to fit your homework around socializing with friends. Homework should come first.
If you can't find a quiet place to focus on your homework at your house, why not head to the library? Be sure you have as little distraction(注意力分散) as possible when studying. Avoid watching TV, talking on the phone or playing music that makes you want to dance around the living room while doing homework.
If you find that having a friend study for a test with you helps the most, why not make flash cards or make mini quizzes for one another to answer. The Key is to make use of your study time and not turn the get-together into a video game marathon or gossip session.
Keep all your notes from your classes and read them over, as well as your textbooks. Make note of things your teacher has said might be on your test so you can be sure to review it. If you're just reading straight from a textbook or novel for class, try reading aloud. Hearing yourself say it while you read often helps you to retain more of what you've read.
If you are still struggling with forming good study habits, don't be afraid to talk to your teachers. Many schools have homework help available to you during lunch or after school. Your teachers may also be able to suggest tutors that you could work with.

Teenagers who spend hours in front of the television may have a poorer diet, a new study shows. It is not clear, researchers say, whether television itself is the reason, but it is possible that things like snacking in front of the TV or seeing ads for junk food influence young people’s diets.
The study included nearly 1,400 high school students. It showed that those who watched TV for five hours or more every day had less healthy diets than other students five years later. As a group, they ate fewer fruits and vegetables, but ate more fast food, snack products and fried foods.
“We’re not able to tell why,” lead researcher Dr. Daheia J. Barr-Anderson said. “But we have some speculation(推测).” People who spend a lot of time in front of the TV, especially teenagers, may have more snacks. It may influence their long-term diet quality. It’s also possible that TV ads for fast food, sweets and snacks make teenagers eat more of those foods. TV time might also replace exercise time for some kids.
The researchers found a clear relationship between TV time during high school and diet quality of the young. The heaviest TV viewers ate the most junk food five years later, and those who’d watched fewer than two hours every day had the most fruits and vegetables.
According to Barr-Anderson, the findings support experts’ advice that children should watch no more than two hours of television every day. “Parents should cut the TV time.” Barr-Anderson said. She advised that parents set a good example by eating right, being physically active and controlling their own TV time.

参考范文:
Dear freshmen
At this moment, we are going through the “growing pains”, and some of us feel really confused and frustrated about our high school life. In my opinion, we have to be positive and try to make ourselves feel better.
Firstly, we should not be ashamed of our figure. We are in the process of growing up, so it is natural for us to experience some body changes. What really matters is that we should keep a balanced diet. Besides, the reason why we often have arguments with our parents or our friends is that we are becoming more and more mature, so we gradually tend to believe in ourselves. To solve this, I think we should talk to family, friends and teachers more. Communication is an important way to tell your feelings to others, and then they can understand you better and help you.
All in all, I hope you can understand that the process of growing up will eventually end in a good way!
Best wishes
Yours Sincerely

W: Oh, yeah. In San Francisco, I go skating every week. I just love it. And I play tennis sometimes.
M: Oh, tennis. I like watching it on TV sometimes, you know. But I don’t really like playing it myself. Basketball is my sport. And football, of course.
W: Me, too. The San Francisco 49ers, they’re my favourite team. I love going to watch the games. Do you play football yourself?
M: Yes, I do. I’ve joined our school team. We’re really good. We usually win.

M: Well, we have to go to the airport at six tomorrow morning, so … Hey, what’s the matter?
W: Jack, I’m a little nervous about Harry’s trip to America… I mean America is so far away.
M: Come on, honey, he’s 18 years old. He’s to study in the university, and he speaks a little English.
W: But we won’t see him for one year.
M: Don’t worry. The time will probably pass very quickly.

W: Hey, Ted! Have you been working out these days? You look terrific!
M: Oh! Stop that, Nancy. But I’ve really been to my gym a lot these two months.
W: So what brings back your interests in body building all of a sudden?
M: Well, at first, I just feel it is time to pay attention to my weight, but then it really makes me feel refreshed and energetic, so I keep doing it as a routine.
W: It’s really healthy. And how is your gym?
M: Very good. Coaches are fantastic and facilities are new. It’s a very lovely place.
Conversation 4
W: Why don’t you like basketball?
M: I used to play basketball when I was little, and I never scored a goal. Every time I watch a basketball game, I think how horrible I was at it. How about you?
W: I like ping pong.
M: Have you ever seen a live game?
W: Sure, many times. It’s an exciting game to watch.
M: I’ve never really understood the game.
W: It’s not that difficult. If you want to watch a game with me, I can explain it to you.
M: That’d be nice. When’s the next ping pong game on?
W: Not for a while, but we could watch an old one on the Internet first.
M: That’s a good idea.
Conversation 5
W: Oh, Dad, I feel really down. I’ve quarreled with Diana.
M: What? Again? You’re always quarreling with her.
W: Well, a girl at school, who’s really mean, keeps telling lies about another friend of ours, Jenny. Diana thinks we should tell Jenny. But I think there’s no point in telling Jenny. She’ll just get upset.
M: Well, I’m not sure. Maybe she should know. It’s not very nice if someone is saying things about you that aren’t true.
W: Oh, not you as well.
M: I’m just saying what I think. Look, maybe you should give Diana a call.
W: No way! She can call me!
M: I know, but this sounds like a really foolish thing to quarrel about.
W: Oh, you’re right. She just annoys me so much sometimes. Well, OK. Pass me the phone!
Conversation 6
M: Hey! Hold up! Can you spare a minute? Then you can return to your run.
W: Fine, what’s up?
M: Dad asked me to talk to you about all the exercising you’ve been doing. He told me I could find you here at the school track.
W: So what of it?
M: They think you’ve been doing a bit too much.
W: You know what the doctor said – If I don’t get active, I could die of a heart attack caused by overweight.
M: Yeah, but I don’t think he meant for you to do so much. You should take it slowly. Maybe you could build an exercise plan that becomes more and more difficult as time goes by.
W: Is that what the doctor said?
M: No. It’s just common sense. Everyone knows you shouldn’t overwork yourself when you start exercising.
W: Thanks for your concern. But tell Dad that I’ll be fine with what I’m doing.
