Dream culture is an important part of ancient Chinese culture. Dream interpreting is popular in China, and the most famous reference for dream interpreting is the book Duke of Zhou Interprets Dreams.
Ancient Chinese people thought that dreams could suggest lucky and unlucky things. Since different dreams have different meanings, people can get meanings of good or bad luck by interpreting them. Actually, dream interpreting is not totally a superstition. It does have some scientific value.
★Dreams are the reflection of the facts. Many dreams are actually something about what happened in the daytime. This kind of dream can be easily understood without dream interpreting.
★Dreams are the body's self-implication. Traditional Chinese medical science says that dreams are connected with the health condition of humans' bodies. When Yin and Yang are imbalanced, dreams come into being. If someone dreamt that he or she was roasted by a big fire,it shows he or she might easily get angry or nervous.

Do you like to eat many different foods at the same time Most of us do, but to buy twenty dishes at a restaurant is just too expensive for most Americans. A good way is to eat a potluck (便餐会) meal.
The idea is to have many families in a community prepare one or two dishes only and bring them to a large room. Many soups, salads, meats, hot dishes, cold dishes, desserts, and drinks are put on the table at one time. Each family member then takes a paper plate, a plastic knife, a fork, a spoon and a paper cup. In turn, they pick out the food they want to eat and fill their own plates with a balanced meal. Then, they sit with either their family or friends.
When they finish, they may go back to the table and eat more food for there is always more than the group can eat at one time. Following the meal, every one puts their paper plates and cups as well as the plastic knives, forks, and spoons into the rubbish container.
At many potlucks, the people then begin having fun. A group of four men may sing as a Barbershop Quartet. A pianist or a violinist may play a solo. Often there is group singing. Sometimes there is a liar’s contest. Three people are chosen to tell a story. They leave the room and two come back and tell a true story while one tells a lie. The lie must be a clever story so it will be hard to choose which of the three stories is not true. The liar’s contest always causes every one to laugh loudly.

A robot created by Washington State University ( WSU) scientists could help elderly people with dementia( 痴 呆) and other limitations live independently in their own homes.
The Robot Activity Support System, or RAS, uses sensors installed in a WSU smart home to determine where its residents are. what they are doing and when they need assistance with daily activities. It navigates (定位) through rooms and around obstacles to find people on its own. provides video instructions on ho w to do simple tasks and can even lead its owner to objects like their medication or a snack in the kitchen.
"RAS combines the convenience of a mobile robot with the activity detection technology of a WS U smart ho me to provide assistance in the moment, as the need for help is detected,"said Bryan Minor, a postdoctoral researcher in the WSU School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
Currently, an estimated 50 percent of adults over the age of 85 need assistance withe very day activities such as preparing meals and taking medication and the annual cost for this assistance in the US is nearly S2 trillion. RAS is the first robot researchers have tried to incorporate into their smart home environment. They recently published a study in the journal Cognitive Systems Research that demonstrates how RAS could make life easier for older adults struggling to live independently.
"While we are still in an early stage of development, our initial results with RAS have been promising." Minor said.“ The next step in the research will be to test RAS' performance with a group of older adults to get a better idea of what prompts, video reminders and other preferences they have regarding the robot.”

Dear Robert,
In China, we wave our hands to say "hello" or "goodbye". We usually greet our guests by shaking hands with them. Some people may nod and smile instead of shaking hands. When you are introduced to a Chinese group, they may greet you by clapping their hands.
Like in many countries, we nod our heads to say "yes" and shake our heads to say "no". People will hold their thumbs up to praise a person, if he does something great. Sometimes, we bow to show great respect and thanks to others.
I hope these information will be helpful to you.
Yours,
Li Hua
