UNIT 4 I LIKE GREEN Lesson One
This lesson covers “let’s sing”, “let’s move: and Activity 3 on page 18
Objectives: *sing the rainbow song with actions *follow the teacher’s instructions and hold up the colour flags in “let’s move” accordingly *understand the meaning of the key vocabulary and imitate the pronunciation *enjoy the games and activities Language focuses: Vocabulary: Purple, blue, green, yellow, orange, red, colour, rainbow, up, down Structure and phrase: Words and chunks in the song Instructions in “let’s move”
Procedures:
Activity 1: Sing the number song with actions.
Activity 2: Let’s sing Show the children the hand-make rainbow; introduce the children to the topic by telling them that they are going to sing a new song about “rainbow”. Talk about it by asking what it is, where they can see it, how many colours they can see, what colour they are, etc. Introduce the children to the key vocabulary of colour, show the colour cards in turns, and stick them on the board. Point to them one by one; invite the children to join in by imitating. Check pronunciation carefully. Play a tape; ask the children to listen and stick the word cards alongside the colour cards accordingly. Lead the children by singing one verse by one verse. The children sin the song on their own.
Activity 3: Get the children to do activity 3, ask them to colour the flags.
Activity 4: Elicit form the children what they have learnt today. Remind them to sing the song to their parents.
Lesson Two
This lesson includes “let’s try” and activity 1 and 2
Objectives: *connect the sound of the words with the meaning *understand and follow teacher’s instructions in “let’s try”: *enjoy the activities Language focuses Vocabulary Pink, black, color, red, orange, green, yellow, blue, purple Structures: It’s green. Find another green card. What colour is it?
Procedures:
Activity 1: Sing the rainbow song???????????????
Activity 2: let’s try Listen, stick and number the cards. Get the children to hold up the colored cards according to what they hear. Then the teacher sticks the relevant word cards on the surface of the colored ones. Add the new vocabulary “pink” and “black” in this step. Make eight words all together. Get the children to read the words in the sequence. Then randomly turn over the word cards on the board once each time from the sequence and ask the children to say the sequence including the face-down one. Invite a child to come to the front, get him to choose one number from the sequence, and then guess what relevant color it indicates.
Activity 3: Get the children to do activities 1 and 2 in the activity book.
Activity 4: Check the result of activities 1 and 2 by asking “What color is …?” “It’s…”
Activity 5: Elicit from the children what they have learnt and what they can say or do about color. Remind them to bring their favorite toys for the next class.
Lesson Three
This lesson covers “let’s chant” and activity 4
Objectives: *Understand the rhyme and do relevant actions *Enjoy chanting and become aware of the rhythm. *Observe the sequence of the color and finish the activity successfully. Language focus: Vocabulary: Pink, black, blue, red, orange, purple, yellow, green Structure: I like pink.
Procedures:
Activity 1 Talk with the children the colour of their school thins and toys. Then adapt the words of the song with a school thing or a toy.
Activity 2 “let’s chant” Introduce the children to the target structure by saying “ You have a blue ruler. You like blue. I like blue, too.” Then ask the children to tell their favourite colour. Play the tape. Get the children to listen to it. The teacher beats the rhythm of the chant. Listen again. Invite the children to beat the rhythm with the teacher. Give the children the colour cards. Ask them to perform chanting in groups, holding up the colour cards accordingly.
Activity 3: Get the children to do activity 4 in the activity book P19
Activity 4: End the class with chanting again in chorus.
Lesson Four
This lesson covers “let’s make”, “let’s sing” and activity 5
Objectives *Colour and make their own rainbows *Sing a rainbow song *Recognize the English form of the target words by sight. Language focuses: Productive: color words and key pattern in this unit Receptive: instruction in “let’s make”
Procedures:
Activity 1: Sing the rainbow song
Activity 2: Talk about a rainbow. Name the colours in the children’s rainbows.
Activity 3: Listen and shape the words. Invite the children to come to the front, shape the word according to what they hear.
Activity 4: Get the children to do activity 5 in pairs.
Activity 5: Ask the children to show their parents the rainbows they have made and sing the song or chant. End the class.
Lesson Five
This lesson covers “story time” activity 6 and Andy’s box
Objectives: *understand the story with pictures and actions *play different roles of the story Language focuses Vocabulary of colour Sentence structures: I like yellow.
Procedures:
Activity 1: Chant the thyme in chorus
Activity 2: Get the children to do activity 6
Activity 3: “Story Time” Introduce the children to the topic of the story by telling them that his story is about balloons. Ask the children to open their textbooks. Look at the pictures in the story. Then find out who is in the story and what happens to them. Elicit from the children the answers to the above questions by rephrasing them into English. Tell the story, divide the children into different character groups and try to remember the color of the balloon each character likes. Tell again and invite each character group to join in with the target structures, “I like…” Play the tape and listen to the whole story again. Ask the children to read after the tape.
Activity 5: Elicit from the children what they have learnt in this unit and use Andy’s Box assess their own performance.
