(1)a lot意为“很；非常”，常用来修饰动词、感叹词、介词短语、形容词或副词的比较级。

(2)do a lot better in意为“在……上取得更大进步”，其原级为do well in，意为“在(某方面)出色，擅长……”，与be good at意思相近。
