B卷——大题提能练
Ⅰ.阅读理解
Homer Simpson, the lovable cartoon dad icon in The Simpsons, once mentioned the pro meat motto. “You don't win friends with salad.” Bart and Marge joined in, giving silent approval to the “meat power” theory, while vegetarian learning daughter Maggie looked on, predictably upset.
At the heart of this is the age old fixed stereotype (刻板印象) that “real men eat meat”, which shows the connection between meat and masculinity (男子气概). Around the world, food—especially meat—stands out as the center of most special celebrations of community, harvest, holiday, family, religion, and power.
Research has consistently shown that there are gender differences in meat consumption as well as the two genders' different attitudes toward vegetarians. However, less attention has been given to the differences within men. New research explores the variation within men and stresses the idea that all males do not think the same way. Some men identify themselves with a new form of masculinity, one that values authenticity, family life and self awareness.
This study investigates if approval of these newer forms of masculinity can predict differences in meat consumption, willingness to reduce meat, and attitudes towards vegetarianism among men. A total of 309 male meat eating participants were surveyed. Results show that men who identify more strongly with new forms of masculinity consume less meat, have a greater tendency to reduce their meat intake, and have more positive attitudes towards vegetarians.
When Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum (two actors in the film 21 Jump Street) return to high school, they are puzzled to find that hard working, environmentally conscious vegetarians are now the cool kids. Gone are the days of meat eating muscle heads. Are we witnessing the same cultural shift in real life
Still, the “meat is manly” concept remains alive and well, especially among men. Is vegetarianism the new masculinity Right now such a bold statement may be a bridge too far, but the tide(潮流) is slowly turning. According to OECD data, the number of Australians who describe their diet as vegetarian has been gradually increasing—currently around 11 percent of the population. Chew on that.

My Favorite Historical Figure
In the long course of Chinese history, a great number of historical figures have made great contributions to the society.
As for me, my favorite historical figure is Zhuge Liang, a famous politician with great achievements in literature in the Three Kingdoms period. He assisted Liu Bei to get over the emergencies and successfully established Shu (an ancient country). Moreover, various articles written by him have been passed on until now, impressing me with his loyalty and huge amount of knowledge.
If you want to know more, don't hesitate to ask further and deeper questions.
Ⅱ.读后续写
阅读下面的材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
David knew the waterfall was coming. It wasn't his first visit to the river in central California. He figured he wouldhop out of his raft into the shallow water, rappel down the rocks (沿岩壁绕绳下降) on either side of the falls, and continue on his way, as he had on a previous trip.
But this year was different. Heavy snow and spring rains had turned the usually manageable falls into something fierce. And this year, instead of his friends, David's companions were his wife, Sara, and his 13 year old son, Hunter. As the three of them approached the falls late on the afternoon of the third day of their camping trip, David could tell from the increasing roar of water in the narrowing valley that they were in serious trouble. There was no way they'd be able to rappel down the rocks as planned.
They could wade (蹚水) to the shore, but would anyone find them there They had no phone service, and they hadn't seen a single person in the past three days. And David knew they'd be sharing the ground there with snakes and mountain lions.
As he wondered what to do, David had a bit of luck—he heard voices coming from the other side of the falls. He yelled, but the sound of the rushing water drowned him out.
“We have to get these people a message,” David thought. He caught a stick and pulled out his pocketknife to carve “Help!” in it. Then he tied a rope to it so the people would know it wasn't just any stick. He tried flying it over the falls, but it floated away in the wrong direction.
Then he spotted his green water bottle. David grabbed it and carved “Help!” on it. Sara also reminded him that he had a pen and paper, which she'd brought to play games with, in his backpack.
David knew it was just an attempt. But he wrote down “6 15 19. We are stuck here at the waterfall. Get help please” and pushed the note into the bottle.

One possible version:
This time, his throw over the waterfall was perfect. “All right, that's all we can do,” David said. It took 30 minutes to navigate back upstream to the beach where they'd had lunch. They made a fire and as the evening wore on, they waited for rescue anxiously. By about 10:30 p.m., they thought they probably weren't going to get rescued that night, so they pulled out their sleeping bags. Before turning in, Sara added more wood to the fire to keep the mountain lions away.
The next morning, they heard a helicopter hovering (盘旋) above them. The three were waving and yelling when they saw the helicopter. After the pilot landed, they went aboard the helicopter. When chatting with the rescuers, the family learned more about the events saving them: Two men picked up the bottle and noticed the writing. Then they realized there was a note inside. After they read it, they went to the campground, turned the bottle in, and left without leaving their names.

注意:续写词数应为150左右。
This time, his throw over the waterfall was perfect.
