When I teach yoga , I usually announce “Phones off and at the back ofthe room” at the beginning of class. Recently, I forgot and had to whisper to a student texting during class to turn off her phone. She looked displeased but did so. But two days later, in another class, I was met with resistance from a young woman who completely refused.
“But I’m on call. I might have to jump up and run out of class.”
“Then maybe this isn’t the best place for you to be tonight.”
That response got me an angry and unfriendly look. But when she came back the next week, there was no phone and she was much more present.
Present is what I’m asking my students to be. Present to themselves and their yoga experience. You cannot be present to yoga if you are texting or emailing or anxiously awaiting a call. And neither can anyone around you. Definitely, if one phone is out, many pairs of eyes are drawn to it. And then other phones start to appear. Forget the fact that you’re missing the class you paid for; you’re at risk of losing your balance and hurting yourself or someone else due to inattention, or disturbing someone else’s moment of peace and stillness with the clicking of your keys.

So please, do yourself and everyone around you, this teacher included, a favor and turn your phone off and put it away before you unroll your yoga mat. If you truly are on call, think hard before you come to class.
Be present for yourself, wherever you need to be.

A. By making comparison.C. By presenting the process. B. By giving examples.D. By analyzing cause and effect.
25. Why was the young woman angry with the author
A. Because she was brave enough to say no.
B. Because she thought she was reasonable.
C. Because she didn’t like the yoga class at all.
D. Because the author was rude to her.
26. Which is Not the probable result of using phones in yoga class
A. Hurting yourself.
C. Attracting others’ criticism.
27. What’s the author’s purpose of writing this passage
A. To describe the situation of her yoga class.
B. To explain her relationship with students.
C. To stress the importance of being attentive in yoga class.
D. To show her opinion about using mobile phones.

Thanks to its harsh environment, Antarctica remained largely untouched by humans for many millennia(千年), allowing a thriving ecosystem to evolve. However, since the 1990s, the last true wilderness on the planet is becoming an increasingly popular destination for adventure-seeking tourists. Now, a new study declares that the visitors may be leaving behind harmful bacteria which could devastate all of the area’s native bird population.
Humans can infect animals with illnesses such as the flu. Researchers, however, believed that the Antarctic animals were immune to the danger due to the continent’s extreme weather. However, microbiologist Marta Cerda-Cuellar was not convinced. She and some colleagues decided to examine waste samples from Antarctic birds for evidence of human bacteria. To ensure the waste was not polluted, the scientists had to collect it from the birds themselves.
The results of their study revealed the presence of several types of human bacteria in the bird waste. This included a common kind of bacteria that causes food poisoning in humans. The researchers say the bacteria strains were resistant to commonly-used human antibiotics, indicating they were brought in by the visitors, rather than migratory birds.
“These strains, which are a common cause for infections in humans and livestock, do not usually cause death outbreaks in wild animals, ” says Gonzalez Solis. “However, the emerging of invasive pathogens (病原体) that arrive to highly sensitive populations could
高一英语 共 10 页 第 4 页
have severe consequences and cause the local collapse and extinction of some populations. ” The researcher also fears the presence ofthese bugs could indicate the arrival of other, more deadly, pathogens as the number oftourists people increases.
Experts believe the only way to prevent the mass destruction of the birds is to impose stricter regulations or, at least, put the ones already in place into effect. For example, while the Antarctica Treaty requires visitors to carry their waste back home to safeguard the pristine(原始纯净的)environment, the regulation is rarely enforced. Fortunately, nowadays some officials are taking steps to save the vulnerable birds before it’s too late.
28. What problem is Antarctica facing according to Paragraphs 1&2
A. The increasing number of birds. B. The worsening wilderness.
C. The replaced native bird species. D. The spread of infectious illnesses.
29. What does the underlined word “devastate” mean
A. reject. B. protect. C. destroy. D. benefit.
30. What do we know about the waste samples from Antarctic birds the scientist collected
A. There were several types of human bacteria in them.
B. Migratory birds brought these strains of bacteria in.
C. The strains usually cause death outbreaks in wild animals.
D. The invasive pathogens will become more deadly ones soon.
31. What is the author’s attitude towards the future of bird population in Antarctica
A. Indifferent.
C. Ambiguous.

Christy and Ted Wilson set aside time every Sunday evening to go over their shared to-do list. Most of the items are tasks like planning doctor appointments and organizing play dates for their three young children.
In every relationship, there’s a question ofwho is pulling their weight around the house. Now that a majority of married-couple families have two working parents, the old “rough day at the office” excuse doesn’t really cut it.
Women still handle more of the household activities, but men increasingly are spending time on food preparation and cleanup. To keep things fair or at least to avoid fights, couples are turning to technology. They are using project management apps designed for the workplace to divide up and track household to-dos and reserving a part of their date nights to compare chores. In some cases, they are even turning it into a game, setting rewards for getting things done.
The imbalance doesn’t always follow gender lines . There was a time when Mr. Wilson was in more of a “Mr. Mom” role: He was attending business school, while Mrs. Wilson was clocking long hours as a lawyer. So Mr. Wilson had more flexibility to take on more ofthe

child-care and household-management work. The couple’s roles changed after Mr. Wilson graduated and started an e-commerce company. “We have had a lot of switching back and forth of who was in the driver’s seat in terms of household management so one person wasn’t too put upon,” she said. They began using calendars to keep the family schedules straight and sharing a to-do list in the Notes app on their phones. Each can take on chores the other dislikes.
32. What does the underlined part “pulling their weight around the house” in Paragraph 2 probably mean
A. Making excuses for not doing any housework.
B. Sharing the stress of buying a house.
C. Running around the house to lose weight.
D. Taking on the household chores.
33. Why does the couple turn to project management apps
A. To stop their arguments over dates.
B. To play phone games with each other.
C. To reward themselves for doing the housework.
D. To share and follow housework more reasonably.
34. What can we infer from the Wilsons’ example
A. Understanding can help settle arguments.
B. Couples need to switch their roles each day.
C. Gender plays a key role in management.
D. Digital apps can only handle household arguments.
35. What would be the best title for the text
A. Ways to Finish HouseworkC. Technology Helps to Divide Chores B. Advantages of the Notes AppD. Working Parents Face Difficulties

Another disappointing day was passing, and Bryan was driving his beat-up old car home. He was out all day looking for a job. It was getting dark and light snow was coming down, so he almost didn't see the old lady standing on the side of the road. It was clear that she needed help. He pulled up in front of her obviously brand new and expensive car and got out.
While nobody had stopped to help for the last hour and there was a smile on his face, she was worried when he approached her. He didn't look safe. He looked poor and hungry.
He could see she was frightened, standing out there in the cold. He said, “I'm here to help you, ma'am. Why don't you wait in your car to keep warm My name is Bryan.”
高一英语 共 10 页 第 9 页
A tyre was flat, Bryan fetched tools from his own car to change the tyre. But he had to get dirty and his hands were hurt. As he was tightening her car's nuts, she rolled down the window, said thanks and asked him how much she owed him. Any amount would have been all right with her. She had already imagined all the awful things that could have happened without his help.
Bryan never thought twice about the money. He told her that if she really wanted to pay him back, the next time she saw someone who needed help, she could give that person the assistance he or she needed. He waited until she started her car and drove off. It had been a cold and depressing day, but he felt good as he headed for home.
Soon the lady saw a small restaurant. She went in to grab a bite to eat and warm up before she made the last leg of her trip home. The waitress came over with a sweet smile and brought a clean towel to wipe her wet hair. The lady noticed the waitress was nearly eight months pregnant(怀孕的). Although the waitress looked tired and walked painfully
due to the pregnancy, she still served the lady.

Dear John,
I am sorry to hear that you are suffering from TikTok addiction. Actually, it is commonly seen that more and more teenagers get crazy about TikTok and spend a lot of time watching and sharing videos online, which makes them unable to focus on study. Therefore, immediate measures should be taken to stop it. You should start some other hobbies, such as reading, listening to music or playing chess. Besides, you had better make more friends through face-to-face communication.
I sincerely hope that these ideas can help you with the problem.
Best wishes!
Yours,
LiHua
After the lady finished her meal, she paid with a one-hundred-dollar bill. The waitress quickly went to get change for her hundred-dollar bill, but the old lady had driven off by the time the waitress came back. The waitress wondered why the lady did so. Then she noticed something written on a napkin. There were tears in her eyes when she read what the lady wrote, “You don't owe me anything. I have been there too. Somebody once helped me out the way I'm helping you. If you really want to pay me back, here is what you do: do not let this chain of love end with you.” Under the napkin were four more hundred-dollar bills.
That night when the waitress got home from work, she was thinking about the money and what the lady had written. She was wondering how the lady knew she and her husband were in need. With the baby to be born next month, life was going to be hard. She knew how worried her husband was, and now everything is going to be all right. Knowing what had happened, her husband, Bryan, shed tears of joy and gratitude.
