W:So, Peter, your annual report is mostly very good. You are set for a comfortable

students in your year.
M: That’s great.
W: You got high marks for behaviour and handing your homework in on time. You
just need to improve your time management. Do you have any questions
M:Yes, just a couple. Will my exam results help me get a place at a good
university
W:Good question. They won’t help directly. University admission depends on
your exams in two years. However, they may help if several students have
similar results. Then universities may look at these exams.
M: Ah, OK. What happens now
W: Well, in general, you’re doing very good work. Keep it up and you shouldn’t
have any worries. I wish I could say that to all my students. (16)Let’s hope
some of your hard work makes an influence on others.
M: Thank you, Mrs. Murray. I’ll try my best to continue like this. (17)

Text 10
Victoria is the capital city of the province of British Columbia, Canada. It is
named after Queen Victoria and has a population of about 90,000. Many people
work for the government or in tourism. Victoria is warmer than most other
Canadian cities in the winter, so many Canadians move there when they
retire.(18)The city is located on Vancouver Island. While it can be reached by
roads, most people travel there by boat from Vancouver. (19) Victoria has one
airport. The English settled in Victoria in 1843, and it became a city in 1862.
Today, the city is known as the “City of Gardens”, because it is full of beautiful
gardens. It is a lot drier than places nearby, and has little snow. Famous tourist
attractions include the Royal British Columbia Museum and some government
buildings. Victoria has one of the best universities in the country — the
University of Victoria, where more than 20,000 students study. (20)
