Possible version:
Although many students find it hard to enlarge their vocabulary, some practical ways can be
found to solve the problem.
First of all, you can download some apps, which can help you form a good habit of reciting
words. What’s more, it would be a good idea if you read English newspapers and magazines for
the more you read, the more new words you will learn. Finally, “practise makes perfect”. Only if
you keep on practising can you consolidate the memory of the words.
Follow my above mentioned advice for a semester and you will find your vocabulary increased
greatly.
第二节:读后续写 (满分 25 分)
Possible version:
After a quick breakfast, Kathy headed to the beach. There the beach, fishermen had already
carried their harvest back and were sorting them out. The sunshine on the beach, on the seagulls
and on Kathy amazed her. Everything was natural and soothing. The scene and warmth suddenly
reminded Kathy of the half-done puzzle, which was supposed to be a breath-taking picture of the
seaside. With some seashells in hand, she headed back and settled down to work on the puzzle.
After what seemed like half an hour, she finally completed it.
Appreciating the finished puzzle, she realized she hadn’t thought of her cellphone for hours. She
looked out of the window. The sun was blazing the noon beach. Maybe it was time to plan for the
following week. She now knew that she would not be short of things to do. She looked at the
books and found them glowing with the sunlight through the window! What an amazing change.
She smiled. With a cellphone, we can do a lot. But without a cellphone, a lot more are waiting to
be explored.

Living on the Florida Emerald Coast, people view a hurricane as a common thing. So it is not unusual for a family to have several full gas cans and bottled water stored in their houses all summer.
Though unwilling to evacuate from a hurricane, on September 15, my family was forced to leave our home for my grandfather's house several miles away. We spent the early part of that evening watching the hurricane draw closer on the Weather Channel. Around nine o'clock, a loud sound shook the house, turned over the roof and carried ii off Soon came an indoor rainstorm.

This question was raised after a group of penguins were saved from an icy gully (峡谷)in Antarctica. Il was filmed for the BBC wildlife series Dynasties. When 1 speak to other parents about how responsible my kids are, I often get laughed at or they make a comment about how strict a parent I must be. Giving kids responsibilities is a must. It is parent's job to make their kids become responsible adults and to prepare them for the real world and life as an adult.
Kids as young as toddlers(学走路的孩子)can be given small jobs to do and can help you around the house, in the garden, at the grocery store, etc. They can do little jobs like setting the table, helping to make the bed, washing dishes, washing the car and so on. When you let children do small jobs at a young age and make it fun, encourage, praise and thank them, it quickly becomes normal and a part of life. Kids who are given different responsibilities grow up with a much greater sense of self-worth, self-esteem and are more confident. As the children grow, their responsibilities grow and expand.
Doing everything for children or not allowing them to make mistakes and learn from them is not being a positive, responsible parent. The kids will more than likely end up with bad attitudes, and usually have no respect for their parents or other adults and at times have no respect for themselves. When your kids are ready to leave home, they should be responsible, capable and confident.
It is my opinion that parents arc to be thanked or to be blamed(货备)for just how kids take control of their lives. They are a product of their environment, mirroring what they have seen and what you have taught them. Parenting is the hardest job in the world and none of us are perfect, but it is our job!

C. praising and encouraging them D. setting a good example to them
34. We can learn from Paragraph 3 that doing everything for children .
A. is bad for their development B. shows no respect for children
C. is difficult for every parent D. shows parents' responsibility
35. What is the author's purpose of writing the text
A. To explain the responsibilities of parents.
B. To show her experience in raising children.

Kathy's family vacation to the beach was usually the highlight 0f her summer. This year, however, her parents announced a new rule: no phones for the entire week.
“But my friends will be expecting updates about the trip," Kathy complained. Kathy's mom gave her a serious look. Unwillingly, Kathy handed her phone over and her mom locked it away.
The drive to the beach house took most of the day. As they turned off the highway onto countryback roads, the clouds darkened. Rain started to pour. "Even more beautiful in the rain," her mother said. "What do you think, Kathy " Kathy glared at her mom. "Beautiful ," she muttered.
That night after dinner, Kathy wandered into the kitchen, where her father was washing dishes. She gave her father a loving look and said in her sweetest voice, "Couldn't I have my phone back, just for one second Just so I can tell everyone what an amazing time I'm having "
“Can't. " he said, "It's not here. Remember ” Kathy was very annoyed. Having nothing better to do, she examined the dusty bookcase in the living room. The books looked as dull as the weather. On the top shelf however, she spotted a puzzle. She took it, emptied the pieces on the table, and began to sort them.
After what seemed like a few minutes, she looked up. It was past ten o'clock. She had been working for almost two hours! She yawned. The puzzle was less than half done, but she was exhausted. So, she went to bed.
When Kathy awoke the next morning, she jumped out of bed and threw open the curtains. A blazing sun was rising over the blue ocean. The sky was cloudless. The scene reminded Kathy of a photo that her friend Betty had recently sent her.
This view was even better. It would leave everyone speechless. Kathy dashed to her bedside table and reached for her phone. But there was nothing there. She sighed. Still she wandered in front of the window, admiring the sunrise.
