Sharon, Aged 22
The most important thing to keep in mind when going into high school is to be yourself. Besides, I don’t know what your middle school was like, but high school teachers will not care about things such as how much homework you already have in one night. It’s best to just learn to deal with things and manage your time wisely so you can achieve everything you need to.
Frank, Aged 21
I think almost every kid feels both nervous and excited before their first day. You will probably love it. I know I did. You should join in some sports or activities that will make your high school experience more enjoyable. Good luck!
David, Aged 19
I’m not going to lie. The first day is kind of frightening. But you’ll get used to it. Don’t be afraid of anyone; upperclassmen will pick on you more if you let them know you’re afraid. Just take it easy. Making some friends and staying with them will greatly help you get used to high school quickly. After the first week it’s really not bad at all. Don’t worry.
Eddie ,Aged 20
When I started high school I was really nervous too, especially since I had been homeschooled all through middle school and didn’t really know anyone. I suppose the best advice would be to just relax. The first couple of days can be a little bit hard, but things will become easier before you know it.

Now many young people are travelling around the world on their own, not because they have no one to travel with, but because they prefer to go alone.
Kristina Wegscheider from California first travelled alone when she was at college and believes that it is something everyone should do at least once in their life. “It opens up your mind to new things and pushes you out of your comfort zone.” Wegscheider has visited 46 countries covering all seven continents.
In foreign countries, with no one to help you read a map, look after you if you get ill, or lend you money if your wallet is stolen, it is challenging. This is what drives young people to travel alone. It is seen as character building and a chance to prove that they can make it on their own.
Chris Richardson decided to leave his sales job in Australia to go travelling last year. He set up a website. The Aussie Nomad, to document his adventures. On the website he said he wished he had travelled alone earlier. “The people you meet, the place you visit, or the things you do, everything is up to you and it forces you to grow as a person,” said the 30-year-old man.
Richardson described travelling alone like “a shot in the arm”, which “makes you a more confident person that is ready to deal with anything”. He said, “The feeling of having overcome something on my own is a major part of what drives me each day when I’m dealing with a difficult task. I walk around with my head up because I know deep down inside that nothing is impossible if you try. ”
The great 19th century explorer John Muir once said, “Only by going alone in silence can one truly get into the heart of the wilderness.”
28.Which of the following will Kristina Wegscheider agree with
A.It is comfortable to travel around without a friend.
B.It is more meaningful to travel in foreign countries.
C.Travelling alone is a necessary experience for everyone.
D.Travelling abroad helps people to find new things.
29.Travelling alone is challenging because________.
A.you can only depend on yourself whatever happens.
B.it is hard for you to prove yourself to others.
C.you have to make things on your own.
D.it will finally build your character.
30.What can we infer about Chris Richardson
A.He started travelling alone at an early age.
B.He was once shot in the arm.
C.His website inspires others a lot.
D.He used to work as a salesman.
31.What is the best title for the passage
A.Travel abroad. B.Travel light.
C.Travel alone. D.Travel Wide and Far.
D
We don’t know how different our future will be in the future. We can only try to imagine it.
At first we think about human relationship. In the year 2050, we will use computers almost every day. We will be making new friends through the Internet—even our husbands or wives will be met in this way. It will be much faster and easier for us. On the other hand, our relationships with people won’t be as important as they are today—we will feel a little lonely.
Computers will also help us in many other activities in 2050. For example, they will be used by the children at school to make their learning easier. In addition, there will be much more other machines which will play the same role as computers, like robots which will do the housework for us.
Spending holidays will also be completely different. Traveling to other planets or to the moon will be possible for everyone. Means of transport will, of course, change, too. We will be using solar-powered cars, which will be much more environmentally friendly(环保).
Some of us may think that the faster technological progress would lead to a more polluted environment. But it isn’t true. We will pay more attention to protecting the environment. And, scientists will probably find cures for many dangerous diseases, like cancer or AIDS. Then, our surroundings as well as health will be in better condition.
Although we can’t predict(预测)the exact changes which will be made in the world, we often think about them. We worry about our and our children’s future; we have hopes as well as fears. But I think we should be rather sanguine about our future. We should be happy and believe good things will happen.
32.Why will people probably feel a little lonely in 2050
A.Because the number of people will become much smaller.
B.Because there will be less face-to-face communication.
C.Because people won’t like making friends with each other.
D.Because people won’t communicate with each other much often.
33.The third paragraph mainly tells us________.
A.that computers will do all the things for human beings
B.how people will use computers to communicate with each other
C.that machines like computers and robots will help people a lot
D.how people will use robots to do the housework
34.According to the passage, which of the following will happen in 2050
A.The relationship between people will be more important than today.
B.The way of spending holidays will be the same as that of today.
C.It won’t be difficult for people to travel to other planets.
D.Our environment will be much more polluted with a growing number of cars.
35.The underlined word “sanguine” in the last paragraph most probably means “________”.
A.disappointed B.surprised
C.sad D.hopeful

The feeling of not having to worry about the never ending piles of files is pure joy. 39.

Text 10 (第20题为总结题)
W: Different colors mean different things to different people. Red is an exciting color. It creates an idea of action, energy, and danger. Red is also the most frequently used color in flags — 80% of the world’s flags contain red. A study in Germany showed that football teams wearing red are more successful. Blue is a very calm color. Businessmen usually wear dark blue suits. Blue is also a peaceful color. The flag of the United Nations is light blue. Yellow means freedom and green is a very relaxing color. Some doctors wear green these days, because it is less tiring than white. Black can also be seen as a very dangerous color, and people are usually not into it. But white is a pure and strong color. This is one reason why most doctors wear white coats: we trust them more. People wearing gray do not want others to notice them. Brown is the opposite of black. It is a warm and friendly color.
