应用文范文

Thanks to the increasing development of science and technology, great advances
have been made in all fields, including people’s daily life.
Studying at school, I have access to digital library where I can find whatever I
want in a second. The tedious manual procedures of borrowing books have been
simplified to facial scanning. That is true of dining at the school cafeteria. During my
leisure time, some hi-tech devices like a smart watch are making my work-out much
easier.
Technology is advancing so fast that the life in the near future may be beyond
imagination!

Nowadays, hi-tech has been impacting on our daily life greatly.
Take visiting museums for example. They are not merely places of looking and
learning any longer. Thanks to modern technology, they allow visitors to participate
and interact with exhibits, instead. Last summer, I went on a visit to the Shanghai
Natural History Museum, where I experienced its immersive multi-media display for
the first time. I really got a kick out of walking into history, experiencing the rise and
fall of human civilization in person. Apparently, it is the advance of technology that is
making static exhibits more interesting and attractive.
续写范文
I was standing by my car when a man with broken English suddenly appeared. He
said if he could he would help me. I said I thought there was a gas leak because I smelled
it. He got under the car, and 2 minutes later, he slid out and said it was all fixed. He
asked me to start it up and see if it worked well. Actually, at first, I was a little skeptical.
But I did as he said. To my delight and relief, my car did indeed roar to life and had
power.
I thanked my rescuer and asked him if I could pay him for his help. He shook his
head instantly and politely refused my offer. I thanked the nice man again and gave him
a big hug. My heart was full and said he was a blessing in my life. His face lit up and
had a beautiful smile. My sister and I were both teary eyed and extremely grateful.
There are so many stories of rudeness and unkindness to others but I have been blessed
many times by kind and helpful people.

Scientists have long known a reliable way to lose weight in lab animals; Cut the
amount of calories(卡路里) by 10 percent to 40 percent. A new study suggests that in
young and middle-aged adults, taking in 300 caloric less every day can also have a big
influence on their body weight and health.
In the new study published this month in the Lancet, researchers looked at a
group of 143 healthy men and women aging from 21 to 50. They could eat the foods
they wanted as long as they cut about 12 percent of their total calories, or roughly 300
calories a day.
The group saw their health improve. For example, their blood pressure fell, and
they had better blood sugar control.
“The benefits came from the fact that they lost about 16 pounds over the two
years of the study,” said William Kraus, the lead author of the study and a professor of
medicine at Duke University.
“We were surprised by these changes,” he added. “In a disease population, there
aren't five drugs in combination(组合) that would get such a big improvement.”
Calories cut may be useful for better health and weight loss, said Frank Hu, the
chairman of the nutrition department at the Harvard School of Public Health. But he
questioned whether caloric cut would be possible for most people since we are living
in an environment with so many energy-rich, nutrient-poor foods that are cheap, and
heavily advertised.
He suggested, however, that some people might find calorie cut possible if they
高二 英语 4 / 12
combined it with other popular diets like the Mediterranean diet.
Dr. Kraus said, “It’s not that hard to cut as little as 300 calories a day from their
diets. It just takes an after-dinner snack.”
24. How much calories does a middle-aged adult usually take in each day
A. About 300. B. About 750. C. About 2,500. D. About3,000.
25. What led to the health benefits in the new study according to William Kraus
A. The combination of five drugs. B. The weight loss.
C. The energy-rich snacks. D. The delicious foods.
26. What is Frank Hu’s attitude toward the advice in the new study
A. Doubtful. B. Favorable. C. Uncaring. D. Curious.
27. What can be the suitable title for the text
A. Hot Debate on Different Weight-losing Diets
B. New Health Guidelines Published for the Adults
C. The Easiest Way to Stay Fit and Healthy Ever Found
D. Cutting 300 Calories a Day to Stay Healthy Every Day

People often talk about cultural differences between western and eastern countries,
but how about the western world itself Surprisingly, a closer look at it can reveal a
good many curious details.
The most obvious characteristic of the majority of Americans is that they smile a
lot. It does not matter whether they have a strong reason to smile; they do it, sometimes
simply because they have to. A smile is not just a powerful marketing tool but also a
way to show that someone is friendly, and that life in general is fine. Europeans, on the
contrary, prefer to keep a more neutral (不带感彩的) facial expression. They smile
mostly when they are in a good mood, or feel amused; if not, a European’s face will
remain neutral, or even dull. In Russia, for example, there is a proverb, saying that
laughing for no reason is a sign of a fool. It does not mean that Europeans are serious,
or that they do not have a sense of humor.
The same refers to communication in general. Americans are extremely
communicative; small talks and chats are common. Europeans talk mostly when there
is something to say, and rarely enter communication just for the purpose of talking to
高二 英语 5 / 12
other people. American people prefer to express what they think carefully, considering
how it might affect surrounding people. Europeans are more straightforward, even with
unfamiliar people. A European friend will almost always voice his opinion on different
occasions, and will not hesitate to remind you that you need to lose some weight or take
a shower.
It can be said that Americans are people of contrasts. They are open-minded,
flexible, and ready to accept everything new enthusiastically; but at the same time,
American society manages to bring up unbelievable conservatives. Americans are
extremely politically correct, which, in most cases, is indeed a secure and beneficial
practice, but it can also mess up daily or even private communication, sometimes
preventing having close relationships. Europeans, on the contrary, are more
straightforward, preferring to tell the truth in direct ways. Each way of communication
is different—neither is correct or incorrect.
28. What does the author say about smiling
A. It is a powerful marketing tool across cultures.
B. It is culture-related within western countries.
C. It is thought of as a sign of a fool in America.
D. It is regarded as a social necessity in Europe.
29. What is typical of Europeans’ communication
A. Beating around the bush. B. Hiding their feelings carefully.
C. Expressing themselves openly. D. Having small talks and chats.
30. What does the underlined word “it” in the last paragraph refer to
A. Being politically correct. B. Being straightforward.
C. Accepting everything new. D. Raising unbelievable conservatives.
31. How is the text mainly developed
A. By making comparisons. B. By analyzing cause and effect.
C. By classifying body language. D. By discussing research findings.
D
An unconventional method for growing rice has been found to increase yields(产
量) by 20 to 50 percent. Reports from China, India, Southeast Asia and Africa suggest
that average yield increases of 20 to 50 percent are regularly being achieved by farmers
adopting the "system of rice intensification(集约化)"(SRI),which needs one-tenth as
高二 英语 6 / 12
many seeds and aims to stimulate the root system of plants rather than trying to increase
yields in the conventional way by using improved seeds and fertilizers.
The idea of using less to gain more is seen as an important innovation(革新) for
adapting farming to climate change and a way to increase yields at a time when human
populations are growing fast but traditional plant breeding and genetically modified
techniques have failed to increase yields more than a few percentage points, says
Norman Uphoff, professor of international agriculture at Cornell.
The new way to grow rice needs only half as much water, and is proving most
popular in water-stressed countries, says Tavseef Mairaj Shah, a Ph.D. researcher. "Rice
growing in Kashmir largely depends on irrigation systems that draw water from the
river Jhelum. But climate change is leading to drier winters, untimely rains, and warmer
summers."
“SRI is a great technique, not just from the water-saving perspective but because it
offers better yields and soil conditions. Different studies, both at the experimental level
and farmer-participative level, have shown that SRl improves yields with less water.”
Shah adds.
Some academic, the global seed industry and the international community once
rejected reports of “fantastic” yields, accusing farmers of falsifying (篡改) records and
researchers of carelessness and "non-science". But more than 600 articles, checked by
SRI International at Cornell University, have shown benefits.
Uphoff says, “Attitudes are changing. The original hostility (敌意) has gone."
However, the early opposition has resulted in comparatively little scientific research
being conducted into SRI and a slow understanding by funders.
32. How does SRI increase the yields of rice
A. By sowing more seeds. B. By using improved seeds.
C. By improving its root system. D. By adopting special fertilizers.
pared with the conventional method for growing rice, SRI________.
A. needs less water
B. increases labor costs
C. requires better soil conditions
D. depends on genetically modified techniques
34. What was the global seed industry's initial attitude toward reports on SRI
高二 英语 7 / 12
A. Curious B. Skeptical. C. Approving D. Uninterested.
35. Which of the following can be the best title of the passage
A. How to Increase Yields
B. People's Attitudes Towards SRI
C. An Innovative Means of Growing Rice
D. The Disadvantages of Conventional Plant Breeding

Basic first aid is a very valuable skill to have when going on a camping trip. 36
Cuts. With small cuts, you need to be careful to keep the area of the wound clean
to avoid getting infected. 37 If the cut has not stopped bleeding, raise the wounded
area above the heart and place pressure on the area to stop the bleeding. 38 It
should be held in place with tape, but should not be too tight.
Blisters. Blisters can turn a fun walk in the woods into a terrible experience. 39
Change your bandage and socks and keep the blistered area clean. Make sure that you
pack different size bandages and first aid cream.
Sprains. If you have got a heavy pack on your shoulders, it can be very easy to
twist your ankles. Walking sticks can be a traveler’s friend. 40 A good ACE
bandage should be packed in case of a sprained ankle. This can help fix the sprained
area until you can get medical attention.
After seeing the above dangers and treatments, it's also helpful to pack a small basic
first aid kit for your trip. Make sure that you include items that are unique to you and
fit your environment (bleeding, bruise, snake bite, etc.).
A . Some climates can be very hot during the day and very cool at night.
B. Treat the cut with first aid cream to prevent infection.
C. Blisters are an open wound and can get infected if not cared for.
D. Below is a brief list of less-severe injuries that you can prepare for.

I am a frequent interstate traveler. I was born in Ontario, Canada and thus all my
family except my husband and children live there. So I make a trip north from Georgia
three times a year. I often travel by myself as my children have all grown up and my
husband is working.
Two years ago I went up in the spring and brought one of my sisters south for a
month to take away the pains of a long winter. This year did the same. It is interesting
that many of my friends have said “Aren’t you scared ” or “What if you break down ”.
I always respond that I have a lot of faith in myself. My husband is a mechanic and
each year gives my over 230, 000 miles car a good checkup. He will come for me if I
need help.
Here is how my miracle happened on Interstate 85 North in South Carolina.
Heading north to take my sweet sister of 63 home to Canada, we were chatting away
and I was driving 70 miles per hour in the third lane (车道) over. Yes, the fastest lane.
All of a sudden, I started to lose power. I said anxiously I was losing power and got
over to the next and then the right lane. I was driving at about 40 miles per hour when
I got to the first exit. I finally arrived at a Citgo station and pulled off the road.
I immediately called my husband but he didn’t answer. I called two more times
saying please answer the phone to myself. I was getting pretty upset thinking what I
should do. I got out of the car and looked under it and smelled gas. My sister went into
the gas station and asked the clerk if he knew anyone who could help us and then prayed
for us as she made her way to the rest room.
