At the beginning of my Senior Two, I received my letter from the New York University (NYU) exchange program, and I was very relieved (如释重负的). I finally had the chance to take high level courses, experience college student life, and gain some extra credit. My aim was to learn the basics of accounting, economics, marketing, and psychology.
When I arrived, I found that there were only 30 students in the program. I was so excited, but also nervous. I was worried that I would not make friends in my new environment. However, I turned out to be totally wrong. NYU hosts free events every week, giving students the chance to meet new people and explore New York City. My favorite events were the Broadway show trips. But there were always a limited number of spots. Therefore, I had to sign up online as soon as I received the reminder and hope that I would be chosen to go.
This summer, I have watched ten Broadway shows, including To Kill a Mockingbird, Aladdin, and Frozen. Actually, I was fully attracted by the shows. Watching a performance almost every week was so amazing. On the way to the different shows, I always met someone new and we’d often chat about our lives. I was so thankful for making so many new friends.
By the time the shows were finished, it was usually late at night. However, I wasn’t scared as Times Square was always so busy, filled with people and lights. This summer was the best ever and I certainly caught a glimpse (一瞥) into college life at NYU. Surprisingly, it is not as scary as I thought.

Spring is a good time for kite flying, a popular activity in China. If you go to a park on a windy day in spring, you’ll see colorful kites flying high up in the sky. They have all kinds of shapes like dragons, swallows and peaches. Some of them have special meanings. For example, dragons and swallows mean good luck and peaches bring you a long life.
Classic kites use bamboo, rattan or strong wood for the spars (翼梁); paper or silk for the sails; and then they are tied on strings. People often paint pretty pictures on kites. They seem like beautiful paintings flying in the blue sky.
The city of Weifang in Shandong is the home of the kites. The city holds an international kite festival in April every year. There are competitions for kite-flying skills and new styles of kites. Workers in India are moving over 300 crocodiles (鳄鱼) from their home because they are too near a new tourist sight. Officials in India’s state of Gujarat want to move the crocodiles because they could be a danger to tourists visiting the new Statue of Unity. The statue built by India government was open to the public last October. It is 182m high and is the tallest statue in the world. It is nearly twice as tall as the Statue of Liberty in New York. The bronze statue sculpture lies about 200km (125 miles) from the state’s main city of Ahmedabad, and it has become a popular attraction.
Besides, it is next to a reservoir (水库), which is also home to many crocodiles. Tourism officials want the huge animals moved, so seaplanes for tourists can land on the reservoir. If the crocodiles stayed, tourists could be attacked. Officials are using cages to catch the animals. Some of them are over 3m long. They are going to a new home in another part of Gujarat.
But animal lovers were angry and criticized the plan. Dr. Jitendra Gavali said, “The government is destroying their habitat and putting their lives at a risk. The government hasn’t thought out where to settle the crocodiles safely.”
So far, only 17 of the animals have been caught and moved. The editor of an environmental magazine, Bittu Sahgal, said the idea to move the crocodiles was crazy. He said, “Have we all lost our minds As any environmentalist will tell you, this is extremely stupid.” Indian journalist and activist Pritish Nandy said moving the crocodiles could break India’s wildlife protection laws. 第二节 书面表达(满分25分)
A Possible Version
Visiting the Elderly on Dongzhi Festival
On Dongzhi Festival, my classmates and I paid a visit to the nearby nursing home where we had a meaningful experience.
We set out for the nursing home at 8:30 and arrived an hour later. Upon arrival, we got down to helping the elderly clean up their rooms. Then we made dumplings together with the elderly, eating happily. At last, we performed for them, singing, dancing and playing games. When it was time for us to leave, they expressed their thanks for our volunteer work and company.
This activity was really beneficial to us. Not only did we know more about the festival, but also we showed the respect to the elderly.

After we get out of the hall, our first stop will be to the Egyptian section above us. (19) This one has our oldest art in it. Next, I will take you to the Asian art and ancient objects to the left. This is my favorite section, because each piece has a wonderful story. (20) The tour’s last part will be European 1600’s section. We have borrowed some of those items from the National Museum! The first thing you should notice is the writing below each piece. I will be speaking about most things, but you can also check the information there. No photo is to be taken here, so please turn off your cameras. Most importantly, please do not touch any of the art! The oils on your hands will damage these ancient objects!
