When I think of the word “perfect”, I think of something only a few can achieve, like high beauty standards (标准), the super smart girl in my class, or anything that I can compare myself to.
For a few weeks now, I have been noticing this one girl. She has wonderful long dark brown hair, big blue eyes, and the most beautiful face. She always wears the prettiest clothes and seems to be the most popular girl in school, at least from my point of view. It seems like she has a perfect life, lost of friends, all A’s, and everything anyone could ever want.
One day, I was in language arts talking to my teacher about one of the upcoming tests, when I saw the girl staring at me in a strange way. I immediately started to be anxious and think, “Why is she looking at me Did I do something wrong Is my hair messed up ”
When the class was over and everyone was rushing to their next class, she caught up with and said, “I think you are really pretty.” I replied, “Oh my god, thank you!” I then watched her as she walked away and thought, “She thinks I am pretty ”
The whole day, I ended up thinking about one thing. That was, “Why does she think that ” After thinking about that topic in my head through each second of the day, I came to learn one big lesson: Everyone has their own insecurities (不安全感) even though it may not seem like in on the outside. In this case, I was thinking that she was everything I wanted to be and she thought the same of me.
We are just us and that’s OK. When I really look at myself, not from my point of view but a fresh one’s, I do see everything I want to be. I see a beautiful, smart, kin girl who is unique.
24. How did the author feel when the other girl fixed her eyes on her
A. Calm. B. Proud. C. Nervous. D. Comfortable.
25. What do we know about the author and the other girl
A. They were perfect girls. B. They admired each other.
C. They were concerned about their safety. D. They were proud of themselves.
26. What did the author get from the other girl’s words in the end
A. Bravery. B. Honesty. C. Selflessness. D. Confidence.
27. What is the main idea of the text
A. How I’ve learned I’m perfect. B. When I met the perfect girl.
C. What kind of person I should be. D. Who taught me what is really perfect.
C
Many people pay a lot of money for face and body mud (泥) treatments. Maybe that is one reason why people like to garden or make things from mud. You must get your hands dirty.
“Getting your hands dirty” is a useful expression. And it has two uses. The first one is for honest, hardworking people. If I am willing to get my hands dirty, it means I am willing to do the hard work of a project myself. I do not give the dirty work to others.
For example, let’s say my good friend is running for city leader. There is a lot of hard work needed to win an election (选举). So, I help gather signatures (签名) to get her on the election list. I walk around neighborhoods and pass out information to hundreds of people. She does too. She is not afraid to get her hands dirty and neither is her team of volunteers. When she wins, she thanks us all for our hard work.
Okay, now it is four years later. My friend has been in office and has become very powerful. In fact, you could say that power has gone to her head. She is thinking unclearly and illegally (非法地) when she asks me to do her a favor. That brings us to the other way we use the expression “get your hands dirty.” This way is for dishonest people.
Let’s imagine that my friend, the Mayor, calls me into her office and asks me to do something for her—something illegal. She wants me to ask a building developer for money for her re-election. In return she will give him some city business.
She promises me that nothing will happen. But she simply can’t risk getting her hands dirty. I tell her that I really can’t risk going to prison (监狱). I also tell her that we are no longer friends.
28. What does the author start to do first to help with his friend’s election
A. Spread his friend’s opinions. B. Apply for an election list for her.
C. Get enough people to support her. D. Ask other people not to run for city leaders.
29. What does the author’s friend want to do four years later
A. Use power dishonestly. B. Cut ties with the author.
C. Send the author to prison. D. Ask the author to lead the election.
30. Which of the following can replace the underlined part in the last paragraph
A. Working honestly. B. Losing her health.
C. Putting her hands in mud. D. Doing it illegally by herself
31. What do we know about the meanings of “getting your hands dirty”
A. They are hard to understand. B. They are very different.
C. They are used for honest people. D. They are changing quickly.
D
Even with an injured leg, a tall, grey-crowned crane (灰冠鹤) walks proudly through a bird shelter in the Rwandan capital Kigali. The shelter—called Umusambi Village—has rescued more than 200 cranes from captivity (囚禁). Olivier Nsengimana founded the Umusambi Village in 2015, and runs it together with the government. Umusambi means “grey-crowned bird” in the Kinyarwanda language. In just four years, the organization has helped to increase the population of these endangered birds from 487 to 881.
Before this work began, local neighborhoods were hunting or catching the birds to sell, said Nsengimana. Nsengimana recently explained why this was possibly happening. In Rwanda, the bird is often a symbol of high social position and wealth. So, they are often raised in private homes or hotels.
In fact, six years ago, he said there were more cranes living in captivity in hotels and homes than in the wild. Nsengimana added that poverty and a lack of awareness (意识) of animal protection in the local neighborhoods also led them to catch and sell the birds illegally. He said raising awareness of their endangered position is helping to protect the birds.
For Nsengimana, his own love of the bird goes back to his childhood. He grew up in a village filled with grey crowned cranes. They not only woke up people in the morning, but they also provided entertainment.
Some of the rescued birds are brought to the village after being injured by illegal hunters. Others come from homes where their owners broke their legs or cut their wings to prevent them from flying away.
At Umusambi Village, the cranes are able to recover. When they are healthy enough to survive in their natural environment, Nsengimana sets them free in a protected forest. However, the cranes are still endangered by illegal hunting and by the destruction of their natural environment. This is happening not only in Rwanda, he said. Cranes are endangered in many other parts of the world, including North America.
32. What is a reason for the illegal selling of the birds
A. Local people knew little about protecting them. B. The government didn’t take measures.
C. Their population was too large. D. They could bring good luck.
33. What happened to the cranes before Nsengimana took action
A. They lost their homes. B. Many of them got hurt.
C. They were used to tell time D. They were hunted for meat
34. What may be the future of these rescued birds
A. Staying in the Village forever. B. Being kept with kind people.
C. Moving to public parks. D. Living in the wild.
35. Which of the following can be the best title for the text
A. Man Reminds People to Protect Endangered Birds.
B. Birds Become a Symbol of Wealth in Rwanda
C. Man Saves Endangered Birds in Rwanda
D. Birds Are Part of People’s Life in Rwanda

I went to the beach nearby for some relaxing time myself. After a tiring week, all I wanted was a book, some loneliness, and a good snack. It was a lovely time watching people come and go for a warm weekend here in California. Kids were joyfully playing in the water, row boating, building sandcastles and sharing meals with their family.
After a few hours,I decided to walk along the waves to get to my car on the other side as I was leaving. As I was near the end and about to head off the beach,I noticed a girl playing by herself, maybe around 8 or 9.It looked like she built a little sandcastle with a moat(护城河)around it and was now trying to fill the moat with water.
Unfortunately, there was no container around to carry water or the usual sand toys. She was playing alone, unlike most of the other kids. She would go to the waves, cup her hands and then walk back to her little castle. Sadly not much of the water was making it to the moat. But she kept trying and was still smiling and hopeful. I so wished I could help her out, but I didn't have a container with me.
As I was standing there watching her, feeling helpless, I had an idea. I realized that I had a bottle of water in my bag that I had completely forgotten about. I quickly dug in, took it out, and walked over to hand it to her.
Confused at first, she smiled but shook her head shyly, saying no. I told her that it would make getting the water much faster. She smiled broadly and finally took it from my hands. Not wanting her to feel uncomfortable, I walked off the beach right away and watched her in the distance.

写作第二节(满分25分)
One possible version:
The girl began to carry water using the bottle. It was true that it was easier to carry water with a bottle than by hand but every time she poured water into the moat, it immediately disappeared into the sand. So the little girl ran back and forth for water, but there was still no water left. It was then that I realized that the bottle was too small to carry enough water. However, the girl kept running carrying seawater to the moat.
Seeing this, I decided to carry more water for her with a bigger container. I remembered I had a big water bottle in my car. So I went back to my car to fetch it and filled it with seawater. Then I carried the water to the front of the little girl’s sandcastle. I asked her to stand by and watch. I filled the moat with water slowly and it was soon full of water Surrounded with water, the sandcastle looked prettier now. The little girl clapped and cheered with excitement.
