教材分析
故事Brave Bruce 选自美国分级绘本读物Tip Top Readers第三级。Brace Bruce 讲述的是一只名叫Bruce的南极企鹅,厌倦了冰天雪地的生活,先独自一人漂洋过海发现探寻新大陆,再结交新朋友,最后邀请家乡朋友一同前往探险的故事。故事并不复杂,但是有不少动词描写Bruce过海的经历,对四年级的孩子来说,理解上有些挑战。由于故事充满想象,孩子们会被主人公的冒险精神所吸引,有兴趣阅读这个故事并体验到挑战与惊喜。
学情分析
授课对象为四年级的孩子。通过一年多的英语学习,孩子们养成了主动倾听、善于观察、积极思考、乐于交流的好习惯。教师在教学中将充分利用绘本的图片,让孩子通过自主观察和分析,了解故事的大意和细节;通过任务型活动引入文本,让孩子入情入境,不断提高对阅读的兴趣,促进其思维能力和语言能力的发展。
教学目标

2. 能力目标:
(1)能够借助图片、音频、文字及教师的讲解理解理解绘本故事、体验人物情感和语言,领悟故事的内涵。
(2)能尝试与同伴、老师预测故事发展、讨论故事情节。
(3)能在理解的基础上初步朗读故事。
3. 情感目标:了解企鹅的不同种类和习性,学习主人公敢于探索未知世界的精神。

四、教学过程
Step1 Warming--- up and leading --- in
1.Greeting.
T: Nice to meet you, everyone! Today I bring you some lovely friends. Would like to meet them Let’s watch the video and find out.
2.Video time---meet lovely friends
T: Who are they Do you know their names Try to say something about them.
(What do they have What can they do What do they eat
Where do they live Do you like them )
Step 2 Pre—reading
1.Cover talk
T: In this lesson, we’ll read a picture book. That’s all about the penguins. Who can read the title —Brave Bruce
T: Bruce is a name. Whose name is it A boy or a girl
T: Look at the pictures, please. Which one is Bruce Show me please!
T: We also can see two names on the cover. J-E Lewis is the writer . He wrote the story. What did he do
T: From the title, we know Bruce is a brave boy. Why do we say Bruce is brave What does he do Guess! Maybe…
Step3 While—reading
1.Watch and choose
T:Good imagination. Actually, what does he do Please watch and choose.
He goes to help little penguins.
He goes to find a new place.
He goes to find his parents.
2. Look and say
T: Why does he find a new place Let’s start from picture 1. There are lots of penguins in Antarctic. Look at this place! What can you see (板书简笔画) I feel very cold. (教cold place)
T: Do they feel cold What do they do (play in the snow/play in the ice)
T: Look at Bruce! He slides high from snow. He plays up side down on the ice. Can you be upside down Wow! He is so brave. His friends are cheering for him. Does he like this place
T:What a nice place ! Let’s read the book happily. 跟读
3. Guess and say
T: 板书小结 In the cold place,Bruce has a very happy life. He plays in the snow. He snows in the ice.板书: cold place/play in the snow/play on the ice
Day by day! Year by year! Do they like staying in the cold place all the time (他们喜欢一直呆在这冰天雪地的地方吗?)
T:Sometimes Bruce wonders. He has some questions.(教学wonder)

Antarctic is a very cold place. My hometown——Jiang Yin is a warm place. What about your city, is it a cold place too
T: I think Bruce and his friends want to know more places. Who will go and find a new place first

3. Read and learn
T: Everything is ready. Bruce will go now. (He takes the binoculars, a bag pack and a map) What’s this What’s it for ---ice boat He is going by the ice boat.
On the big ice:
T: Now time to say goodbye.
T: Goodbye, my friends! (Pay attention to the stress!)
--You are so brave! Bruce! (Thanks for your support)
---Go!Bruce! Go! ( I will miss you, my dear friends)
On the small ice:
T: Then, what happened The boat becomes to a small one. Why Please read the sentence and find out one key word---melting
T: What does it mean Why is the boat melting How is the weather now
T: When the weather becomes warmer and warmer, the ice will come into the water. That means melt. (板书简笔画: 太阳)
T: He looks very worried. What will he say (Pay more attention to the stress!)
---My boat! It is too small. It is melting. I think. (Bruce , you are so brave)
Bruce starts on a big boat. But the weather becomes warmer, now he is on a small boat. 板书: on a big boat/ on a small boat
In the sea
T: Boys and girls, can you see the boat Where is it What is he doing now
T: Who can swim Can you be Bruce In this endless sea, Bruce swims and swims for a long time, what will he say Are you tired Do you need some food What do you need
T: So Bruce is in danger. Without them what does it mean with the balloons/ with no balloons
In the sky
T: What a dangerous journey! He is flying in the sky. What will he say --Yahoo! I am flying.
T: Without the boat, Bruce swims in the sea. And with the balloons, Bruce flies int the sky. 板书:in the sea/ in the sky

小结:The brave boy can cross the sea by himself. Let’s try to retell this part with the key words.
4. Read and act
T: Now, Bruce finds a new place.What can he see in the place How is the weather there (教beach)
板书:warm place 简笔画beach tree
T: Bruce is so excited. What will he say (Hello!)What about the little penguins They look frightened. What will they say Please open your book and read P12--15. Try to act in pairs.
T: Why is Bruce so big and others are little (视频播放) You know, there are more than 20 kinds penguins in the world. Most of them live in the cold place.They have big and tall. Some live in the warm place. They are much smaller. But they all live on the Southern Hemisphere.
T:看板书We know Bruce comes from the cold place. He is new here. Does Bruce like this new place Read and try to introduce for him.

T: Look here. What’s he doing now ---surf
T: Can you surf Everybody, show me you wings, let’s learn to surf. I am surfing.
5. Listen and enjoy
T: Being away home, does Bruce miss his family and friends What will he do Now let’s listen to the story.--He wrote a letter and invite them to the warm place.
T: Are they going to the new place ---Yes! Because they say...
T: I hope they will have a nice safe trip.
Read and act
T: Do you like this picture book Let’s read the whole story. Please focus on the stress and emotion.
T: Bruce is really awesome. He comes from the cold place. But he crosses the sea and finds the warm place. Also we can divide his experience to three. I like the cold place, because it’s so funny to play in the snow. Which part do you like Why Please choose a part, read and act in pairs (Try to be brave and show me your performance)
Step 4 After--reading
Do you like Bruce Why How to be brave
T: Just like Bruce——Wonder something/Try everything/Fear nothing
Now, his are going to visit him. What will happen in the sea I think they will help each others. What’s your idea Use your imagination and make an interesting end for the story. Time is up. There is the homework for you.
