This is a true story. It took place in Amsterdam, Holland in the early 1940s under the German Nazi occupation. The Nazi Party took power in Germany in 1933 and later occupied most of Europe through 1945. One of their key policies was to kill all the Jews in Europe. If any persons known to be Jews were found, they would be sent to concentration camps farther east, mostly in Poland, and then be killed there. To escape from this horrible fate, some Jewish families went into hiding.

Reporter: Hi, Anne, thank you for coming to our interview. We all have just gone through a horrible war. We know that you and your family went into hiding during the war to avoid Nazi persecution. Could you tell us something about that nightmare What were you doing and how did you feel at that time
Anne: We were hiding in some rooms all the time without going outside… Windows closed, dirty curtains…
I didn’t dare to go outdoors because… I kept a diary as my best friend because… I used to find nature…. However, after I hid, everything changed.
