If you're holding a kids' party or a family friendly event, then you need Nick Clark. My daughter and her friends love his shows. At birthday parties and at places like Fishers Farm — wherever he performs you'll find a happy group of children. Hugely talented and reasonably priced, you couldn't wish to meet a nicer man.
Vicky Edwards
Nick once very kindly offered his service for a charity (慈善事业) event for free. I have to say, he did a truly wonderful job! Not only did Nick have the little ones laughing but greatly attracted the ‘grown ups’. I was blown away by how good he was.
Lizzie Fowler
Dear Nick,
Just a short note to say thank you for the excellent children's party yesterday. It can be a bit of a worry for us mums when we are suddenly in charge of (负责) 30 small children. Thank you for keeping them happy for 2 hours. Lola loved it although she wasn't at her best as she has been unwell since last Thursday. A very good time was had by all.
Mrs Middleton
Dear Nick,
Thank you for a fantastic night on Friday. The children enjoyed themselves and the disco (迪斯科舞曲) was considered as the best school disco at Lavant School ever. “I really like dancing,” says 11-year-old Jonathan Rosario of New York City. “That's what I want to be when I grow up — a dancer.”
Every Saturday, Jonathan and hundreds of other children from New York City public schools take classes at National Dance Institute (NDI). The nonprofit (非营利的) organization in Upper Manhattan was founded in 1976 by dancing star Jacques d'Amboise, who grew up in a tough (充满犯罪与暴力的) neighborhood. It has been teaching school children how to dance through weekly classes for over 30 years. NDI also supports ( 资助) programs in New York City public schools, helping thousands of children to express themselves creatively.
On a recent visit to NDI, I watched as Jonathan and other students practiced for an upcoming performance. I also spoke with d'Amboise about the influence that dance has had on his life and why he started a program for children.
“Dance changed me,” he said, “and I'd like to see other young people — especially boys — have the arts in their life, using dance as a window.”
For d'Amboise, dancing is like competitive sports. Ice hockey (冰球) players, for example, “learn to compete as a single person and as a team,” he said. “They learn how to win or lose and accept either result. And they develop skills and unity (团结) by being on a team.” The same is true for dancers.
Jonathan says that Saturdays at NDI are all about energy and fun. But dancing also requires great effort. “Work hard,” he advises other young people, “and you'll make it.”
24. What do we know about NDI
A. It has a history of 30 years.
B. It offers dancing lessons to stars.
C. It has reached thousands of children.
D. It gets support from some public schools.

D. victory and loss are common for both dancers and players
27. In Jonathan's opinion, dancing is _____.
A. just plain fun
B. easier than it looks
C. a tiring activity nobody really likes
D. something one can achieve through hard work

As a little girl, one of my favorite family traditions was held on the first day of May. Along with my sister, my mother and I would make simple flower baskets by making paper into cones (圆锥形). Then, we filled the bottom of the cone with small candies before putting some flowers into it.
With our May Day baskets in hand, my sister and I became anonymous gift-givers. After hanging a basket on the front door of a neighbor or friend, we rang the doorbell and ran away. The goal was to remain secret givers.
Historically, the first day of May, often referred to as “May Day,” has been recognized as a celebration of spring, of life and growth. Parades (游行) and dances are ways that the day has been — and continues to be — celebrated in many parts of the world. Although formal May Day celebrations may be less common now, it is always worth celebrating. Here are some simple and lovely ways to celebrate May Day in our homes and with those we love:
Making a May Day basket is always a great choice. Although the May Day basket we made as children was simple, the making of the basket was a joy in itself. Consider making or buying some flowers for friends. Fill the basket with a few sweets and write a note thanking your friend or neighbor for their kindness, their presence, and their love.
On May Day, we also take flowers to a local hospital or nursing home. Flowers are always welcome in places that are too often full of sadness. Stopping to have a conversation with a patient and thanking a nurse would be an additional gift — to the receiver and to us!
Besides, we always give friends small gifts to celebrate May Day. A small book or magazine with a note, an art print celebrating spring — the choices are endless. When your friends are far away, an unexpected gift can reawaken friendship across the miles.
28. The underlined part “anonymous gift-givers” refers to people who _____.
A. are serious about gift-giving
B. don't know the value of gifts
C. are careful about every small detail
D. don't want their names to be known
29. What do we know about May Day from the text
A. It is celebrated all over the world.
B. The date of its celebration has changed.
C. It traditionally celebrates the arrival of spring.
D. There is an increase in formal May Day celebrations.
30. In the author's eyes, May Day is a great chance to _____.
A. express thanks
B. visit faraway friends
C. read a book or magazine
D. stay with family members
31. What is the text mainly about
A. The history of May Day.
B. Great family traditions.
C. Celebrating May Day.
D. Flowers for festivals.

Look around the walls of your classroom. Do you see pictures or paintings Most of the art on show was probably created by yourself and your classmates, using imagination and your own hands.
Each year in Toronto thousands of school children make the best use of their imaginations and their creative abilities in workshops provided by an organization called the Inner City Angels. These children work directly with professional artists on different art programs.
Natalie McHaffie is one of the many professional artists who work with the Inner City Angels. “My purpose is to teach the children about design,” she says. “Once they learn how to put things together, they can use that knowledge for other things they may want to do, such as making a kite or designing a house.”
Recently Ms. McHaffie worked with 16 children at St. Bernard School to create a wall painting in the hallway leading to the kindergarten classroom. Together they designed and did the wall painting during one school week.
When Ms. McHaffie first met the student artists, she told them, “We must do a painting that will not only please the kindergarten kids but will also offer them information.”
Each of the 16 students was asked to imagine and draw ideas for the painting. After discussing the different ideas together, they chose the theme (主题) “The Four Seasons.”
Finishing the painting, four of the student artists had something to say about their experience.
Alfea: “You learn more when you do it yourself. As you go along you keep finding out things you didn't know before.”
Mauro: “I like working in a group because you get more done than if you work alone.”
Paolo: “It's been fun working in a group, not the same kind of exciting fun as when you're playing basketball. When you do art, it makes you feel peaceful.”
Paulina: “You can learn from working with the other kids. By talking to each other you can find ways to do things.”
32. Each year, thousands of school children in Toronto _____.
A. join the Inner City Angels
B. take part in the city's art programs
C. take art classes in different workshops
D. create paintings on the walls of their classrooms
33. Ms. McHaffie hopes the children _____.
A. will understand the importance of design
B. can design a house of their own some day
