Dear Sir,
I travelled to the Great Wall in my summer vacation. The scenery there is really beautiful, but it is suffering from damages due to natural forces. What’s worse, some tourists even carve their names on the walls, making me heartbroken.
I strongly feel it significant to protect cultural heritage, which is an important part of our culture.
So I hope the authorities can take measures to protect the Great Wall, such as raising people’s awareness on perserving cultural heritage. Besides, make regulations to fine spoilers. Also, organize volunteers to the Great Wall to stop tourists from writing or carving on the Wall and remind tourists to take away their rubbish.
I would appreciate it if my suggestions were accepted.
Sincerely yours,

In February, before the outbreak of Covid-19, I sold my old-style car. I thought it wouldn't be a big deal: I live in London within walking distance of three subway stations and countless bus stops. I own a bike;there are taxis and supermarket delivery services, and I joined a car-share program, all of which can save me a big sum of money to fund my future green transport.
Then the lockdown (封锁) happened and being car-free suddenly felt like a big deal. I couldn't get a supermarket delivery. I couldn't take my broken garden chairs to the recycling center. And a few days into lockdown, somebody stole my bike!
When the lockdown stopped, it just got worse. I was eager to go to the countryside or beach, but taking public transport or a taxi felt like too much of a risk. The car-share program turned out to be unbelievably difficult to deal with—every area has its own rules about where you can and can't park, and taking a car-share vehicle beyond the city is impossible. And renting a car is clearly expensive and time-consuming.
So last month I did a U-turn. I felt guilty but also a sense of satisfaction: I had tried, but the pandemic (疫情) beat me. Most of all, I got freedom, sitting behind the wheel (方向盘) and getting to wherever I want. Don't get me wrong. I still expect to travel without creating greenhouse gases and pollution. But life in a pandemic has drawn attention to some of the disadvantages of public transport, such as time and money wasted on the road to offices and the risk of Covid-19. It has also stressed our need to review our relationship with the environment. Problems with public transport have meant that the ownership and use of a car has become quite a useful thing.
Why did the author sell his car in the first paragraph?
He tried to lead a greener life.
His car was too old to drive.
C. He felt a car was no longer useful.
D. He wanted to get a big sum of money.
What did the author probably mean by "I did a U-turn" in paragraph 4?
A.I made a tough decision.
B.I bought a new car.
C. I broke the lockdown rules.
D. I chose another path to life.
What's the author's attitude toward driving a car in the last paragraph?
A. doubtful B. positive C.concerned D. uncertain
Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A greener choice in life
B. How to survive the lockdown
C. Back behind the wheel
D. The disadvantages of public transport
C
The gentle giants of our oceans are whale sharks. It’s the biggest whale shark and can reach as long as 41.5 feet, and these amazing creatures are not only the biggest sharks, but they are also the biggest fish of any kind.
Whale sharks have a lifespan of 70 years on average, and they spend their days gently swimming in the warm and tropical oceans.
Their teeth are the size of match heads, and while their jaws could be powerful, they have never tended to attack humans.Their teeth play no role in eating,as plankton(浮游生物) does not need to be chewed. They are to be found in numbers in the warmer oceans and they prefer the deep waters of open oceans. They tend to travel alone.
Several times a year they gather together in certain spots where plankton is plentiful. Those areas are all within a 30°north or south latitude from the equator.Sadly whale sharks are targeted by commercial fisheries at those spots.
How easy it must be for the fishermen to catch those beautiful creatures who can only swim at 3.5 miles per hour! So great a loss in numbers have they suffered that whale sharks are now listed as one of the endangered species. Some countries have started to take measures to protect the whale sharks from extinction.
The Philippines,India and Taiwan have all banned the fishing, selling, importing and exporting of whale sharks for commercial purposes. However, the law doesn’t seem to be effective because the hunting and killing still goes on today, especially in Taiwan and the Philippines. Each whale shark can fetch around $21,000.In parts of Asia they are known as the “money shark”.
The mighty dollar wins again at great cost to our habitat, and we will not know what we have lost until we have lost it forever. Therefore,it is high time for us to do something for the whale sharks.

29.Why can the whale sharks be caught easily
A.Because they swim in the oceans at a slow speed.
B.Because they are surrounded by so many fishermen.
C.Because they often gather together.
D.Because they never tend to attack humans in the water.
30.It is implied in the passage that .
A.whale sharks will be extinct even if they are protected
B.whale sharks are the most dangerous marine animals
C.there is no law about banning the fishing of whale sharks
D.the huge profit is to blame for the decreasing numbers of whale sharks
31.What is the main purpose of this passage
A.To call for people to protect whale sharks.
B.To advise the government to make related laws.
C.To guide people how to fish and kill whale sharks.
D.To analyze the value of whale sharks.

Meghan Howey, an archaeologist at the University of New Hampshire says, “ Humans have lived near the coast for thousands of years. In that time, they created and left behind many cultural relics that hold pieces of the past. These are famous places such as Rapa Nui in the southeastern Pacific Ocean and the canal city of Venice in Italy. But they also include many smaller and less known places. If rising seas destroy these places, we’re going to lose those people’s stories too.”
David Anderson, an archaeologist at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and other researchers recently used online information to look at the dangers created by rising seas. They found that a one-meter rise in sea level could destroy more than 13, 000 of the cultural relics in the southeastern United States. He says, “ Climate change is under way, so now it is the time to start thinking how we are going to protect the important places. We need to know what’s out there and what’s caused or else it may become too late to save at least some of these places.
Efforts to control the worst influences from climate change, including the sea level rise, will require cutting greenhouse-gas emissions(排放物)or taking steps to control flooding in important areas. Another method might be to move cultural treasures. But it’s unlikely that the capital to do that will be saved or collected to pay for every site. And some treasures simply can’t be moved.
If researchers used only traditional methods to map those places, most would be gone before you got to them. Satellites with cameras and other tools, however, can more quickly and easily find and map many of these places.
“ Scanning(扫描)and imaging tools can help ," says Mark D. McCoy, an archaeologist at Southern Methodist University. “ High-resolution digital photography can make detailed puter technologies also can create 3-D virtual(虚拟的)reality models.”
32. What will happen to the cultural relics according to Meghan Howey
A. They will be harmed by rising seas.
B. They will lose people's attention.
C. They will become more crowded.
D. Their old stories will not survive.
33. What does David Anderson encourage people to do
A. Take immediate action to save the cultural relics.
B. Collect information about the cultural relics.
C. Find out the real cause of climate change.
D. Move the cultural relics to safe places.
34. What can replace the underlined word “capital” in the third paragraph
A. Time. B. Advice. C. Fund. D. Effort.
35.What can be helpful to deal with the problem
A. Machine tools. B. Advanced technology.
C. Scientific research. D. Traditional methods.
