Lisa was a businesswoman who often traveled by plane. One day her husband Sam drove her to the airport and he slayed with her waiting for the security check before the plane took off. They found the line took longer than before.
This was due to a man in front of them. Because of strict safety concern, his package was not allowed on the plane. Even though the man begged again and again for a long time, it was no use. He was asked to throw the package into the nearest rubbish bin, and so he did. Seeing the man’s sad expression, Lisa, before parting from her husband, asked him to do something strange.
After the plane landed, she quickly called Sam to see if he had taken the package back. Sam took some photos of what was inside the package. On seeing the photos, she understood why the man was so sad. It was a glass snowball with a picture of a little girl. On the bottom of it was carved with “We love you Katie. 01/25/2016.”
Lisa and her husband went online to look for its owner. The photos were shared more than 48,000 times in a week! Soon, with the help of a global supermarket, they found the person who had bought the snow globe: Richard Milton, and with the help of an express company, they returned the package to him.
Richard, grandpa of Katie, was moved to tears. The true story behind the snowball was that the words on it did not represent a date of birth. It was the date of Katie’s adoption. The globe was to show everyone how welcome Katie was in her new family.
Whenever Lisa and Sam look back on the whole event, they are filled with great pride, for what they saved is not only a gift but also love.

Kids are three times more likely to choose to be Internet celebrities (名人) than astronauts, a survey found recently. Many are already on their way - more and more children are now making and sharing videos on social media.
Meanwhile, education experts worry that going after Internet fame won’t be good for children in the long run. Their biggest concern is that kids don’t know how being on the Internet today might affect them in the future. The parts of the brain that people use to make decisions don’t fully mature until around age 25, so children cannot imagine how their future might be affected by what they share now.
What’s worse, some parents, who are crazy about becoming famous on their own, can’t watch out for the best interests of their own children. A young mother, Michelle Hobson, was accused of starving and kicking her children when they didn’t do what she wished for in the videos. She was charged with child abuse and ordered to distance herself from kids.
Keeping famous on the Internet takes much time and patience, too. It can distract students away from homework, sports and other activities. For example, one of the superstars, 14-year-old Emma Garza, dropped out of school to become a Vlogger (video blogger). She said that making videos was so tough that she couldn’t make time for study and even suffered back pain and weakening eyesight.
Although we don’t yet know the effects on a child’s development by constantly performing to entertain others, we can easily imagine that the effort to attract viewers will be less helpful to a kid, compared with spending that time reading a book. For a kid today, becoming an Internet superstar might not only be more popular than being an astronaut. It might also be more dangerous.
28. What problem is discussed in Paragraph 1
A. Internet affects kids’ growth. B. Young kids seek Internet fame.
C. Social media mislead children. D. Children watch too many videos.
29. What is the major concern of education experts about children
A. Security. B. Family. C. Study. D. Future.
30. Why is Emma Garza mentioned in the passage
A. To highlight her success. B. To introduce a new career.
C. To show the impact on students. D. To encourage kids to be Vloggers.
31. What does the author think of children’s being an Internet celebrity
A. Exciting. B. Doubtful. C. Beneficial. D. Negative.
D
Human’s fingerprint can be seen across the planet today, from the pyramids to the skyscrapers and from roads to agriculture. But what would the world look like if humans had never existed
A scientist has painted a picture of the world without modern humans. “I think it would be an overgrowing place with a wealth of animals ranging across all continents,” said Gilbert Williams, a biologist in Australia.
Human beings have shaped the world at the expense of many species, from the dodos to dinosaurs, which we drove to extinction through unsustainable activities. The extinction rate on Earth today is more than 100 times what it would be without humans. In other words, human beings hit this planet like an asteroid from space, and the “dust” is still affecting the livelihood of wildlife.
Scientists also believe human beings played a key role in the disappearance of large mammals. Without humans, massive animals would live across Europe. Meanwhile, the Americas would be home to bears and elephants, along with unique species like giant mammoths (猛犸象). “In a world without humans, there would be a much bigger diversity of large mammals,” Dr. Gilbert said. They survived climate changes and likely could have survived to the present day were it not for the pressure humans placed on them.
The climate might also be different. Though activities such as the burning on fossil fuels, human beings have a great impact on Earth’s climate by raising the average global temperature. Earth, therefore, would have been much cooler without us.
However, human beings are not the only intelligent creatures on this planet. There’re no reasons why other intelligent animals couldn’t have evolved like that eventually, given enough time. “Removing us might have opened the door for others,” Dr. Gilbert said. “Maybe they would make all the same mistakes that we’ve done. Who knows ”
32. How does the author introduce the topic of the passage
A. By telling a joke. B. By giving details.
C. By listing problems. D. By raising a question.
33. What is the purpose of the underlined word “asteroid” in Paragraph 3
A. To stress the damage humans brought to wildlife.
B. To reduce environmental pollution on this planet.
C. To praise efforts humans made to shape the world.
D. To show high expense of protecting many species.
34. What can we infer about huge mammals from Dr. Gilbert
A. Their diversity is smaller than before.
B. They added pressure on human beings.
C. Their activities caused global warming.
D. They disappeared due to climate changes.
35. What would happen if human beings were removed according to Dr. Gilbert
A. Dinosaurs might return to this planet.
B. There would be no pollution any more.
C. Other smart creatures might come to power.
D. Intelligent animals would avoid making mistakes.

The boss asked, “Did you have any part-time jobs in school ” Jack shook his head and said, “No, I didn’t have part-time jobs.” The boss went on and asked, “Was it your father who paid for your school fees ” Jack replied, “My father passed away when I was one year old. It was my mother who worked and paid for my school fees.”

Then the boss politely requested Jack to show his hands to him. Jack was confused and he showed his hands in front of the boss, a pair of hands that were smooth and perfect. The boss asked again, “Jack, have you ever helped your mother wash the clothes before ” Jack answered, “Never. My mother always wanted me to study and read more books. Besides, my mother can wash clothes faster than me.”

第一节(满分15分)
One possible version:
Trials of Life
The trails of life are of great importance in our growth. Only by confronting difficulties in our life can we become strong and mature.
I would never forget the tough period after I entered senior high school. It was the first time that I had lived away from my home, and I found it difficult to follow a fast-paced schedule in high school. I was frustrated, feeling stressed and hopeless. Instead of giving up, I managed to cheer up and confronted the hardship with perseverance and courage. The difficulties I came across have now become a precious memory in my life.
As the saying goes, “No cross, no crown.” The trials of life actually serve as a stepping-stone to a brilliant future!
第二节(满分25分)
One possible version:
Jack left the office, feeling confused about the strange request. No sooner had he entered his house than he told his mother the strange request. Feeling happy but embarrassed, she showed her hands to him. The youth cleaned his mother’s hands slowly. His tear fell as he did that. It was the first time he noticed that her hands were wrinkled with many bruises and wounds. Some were so painful that her hands shivered in water. After cleaning his mother’s hands, he washed all the remaining clothes for his mother. The youth understood the real intention behind the strange request.
The next morning, Jack went back to the boss’s office. Before opening the mouth, he thought of what he saw last night, eyes streamed with tears. The boss noticed and asked, “Jack, can you tell me what you have done and learned ” Fighting back tears, Jack told him that it was the first time that he had seen his mother’s hands closely, the ones that washed clothes day after day to pay for his study and his future. “You pass the interview. Congratulations!” The boss announced. “The one who appreciates hard work and family relationship is what we are looking for.”
