By the end of this class, students should be able to:.
1) Use the reading strategies of skimming and scanning to find out the main information of first aid for burns more effectively .
2) Cooperate with each other and perform first aid treatment in certain situations where someone gets burned .
3) Use the key words and expressions of this class to retell the main information about first aid for burns.

Language Level: Intermediate
Time Duration: 40 minutes

4.1.1教学活动
活动1【导入】Pre-reading:
1) Lead in the topic of first aid for burns by a piece of short video, a picture and three questions.(2mins)
2) Introduce the teaching objectives and teaching points of this class.(1mins)
3) Lead the students to predict the main idea of the passage according to the title, the subtitles and the picture.(2mins)
设计意图:
1.激活学生对于烧伤急救的已有知识;
2. 让学生明白本节课的学习目标及重难点;
3. 激发学生对于烧伤急救知识的求知热情;
4.引导学生根据标题和图片预测文章内容,培养学生读前预测意识和能力。
活动2【活动】While-reading
1) Students skim the text for the first time, check the prediction and find the main information of this passage according to subtitles.(5mins)
2) Students read Para.1, find out the topic sentence and the supporting ideas.(3mins)
3) Students read Para.2 and find out the causes of burns, look at some pictures and speak out the causes(4mins)
4) Help students to understand some key words like a variety of … while reading.(1mins)
5)Teacher and students read Para.3 and Para.4, find out the three types of burns and lead the students to read and find out the information about first degree burns ,and then fill in the notes about first degree burns.(10mins)
6) Teacher divide the whole class into two parts, ask them to read Para.3 & Para.4 by themselves, find out the information about second degree burns and third degree burns and fill in the notes. Each group is in charge of one type of burns(3mins)
7) Teacher and students check the reading together, try to remember as much information about each type of burns as possible.
8) Students read Para.5 and find out the steps of first aid treatment, especially the key verbs of each step.

1.按照总-分-总的阅读课教学思路引导学生展开阅读,培养学生速读、略读和理解细节信息的能力;
2.引导学生在阅读过程中发现、理解和掌握重点单词和短语;
3.引导学生通过阅读并完成相关阅读任务,层层深入,最终达到阅读、理解全文,提高阅读能力及综合语言应用能力的目的。
活动3【活动】Post-reading (Discussion & Acting)
1) Students discuss and cooperate with each other to perform first aid treatment. Then teacher give students chances to show their performance in front of the whole class.
2) Teacher summarize the main information of this class, and then students draw their own mind map of the passage.
3) Students share their mind map with the whole class.
设计意图:
1)通过阅读进行语言输入的基础之上,给学生提供讨论、互助合作及实践操作,引导学生进行语言输出;
2)引导和启发学生在特定语言情境中运用语言并进一步掌握所学语言知识。
活动4【作业】Optional activities & Homework
1) Teacher share two sentences with the students to cultivate their emotion.
2) Ask students to write a short passage about first aid for burns using the words, expressions and their own mind map.
3) Encourage students to learn more knowledge about first aid treatment by reading other books or searching on the internet.
设计意图:
1)鼓励学生课后积极巩固课堂所学知识,并通过写来进行语言产出;
2)培养学生课后自主获取更多相关知识的学习策略;
3)增强学生在日常生活中运用阅读课所学知识关心、关爱同伴的意识。
