第二节
One possible version:
Dear Tom,
Knowing that you are concerned about my high school life, I’m very glad to introduce it as follows.
My school is not big but beautiful. We study in a five–storey building with each classroom equipped with a computer and a big screen.
My teachers have left a deep impression on me. Some of them are very strict with us, while others are very kind and patient. They are all professional and willing to give us any help we need.
I feel excited about the brand new life in senior high. Meanwhile, having more homework and less spare time makes me a little stressed. But I feel hopeful because I’ll achieve my goals in such an excellent school.
How about your school life now Looking forward to your reply.
Yours,

If the kids don’t fall, they don’t learn to get up. I still remember the day in high school that my mom forgot to pick me up from school. I’m the oldest of four children, and no doubt she’d had a long day with the other kids and it’d slipped her mind. After waiting at school for an hour, I walked the three miles home, and when I got to my house, I shut our front door with anger, stormed into the kitchen and screamed in my mom’s face that she’d forgotten me.
Later that night, my dad told me I no longer had a ride to school the next day. I figured my mom would still take me, but when the morning came, she refused. It was midterm, and as a straight A student ready to start college applications, being late wasn’t an option (选择). In my mind, missing these tests would have been the end of my academic career. I begged my mom. I told her she was ruining my future and everything I’d worked for. But she just held her ground, and that day, I walked to school. And I missed my tests.
My mom didn’t save me from failure. She let me suffer from it. She let me figure it out. She let me learn. Now, as a mom myself, I’ve realized that I want my kids to experience failure because failure is how we grow, learn and think outside of ourselves. It’s how we self educate to learn what’s right and respectable, and what’s not. It’s how we become responsible and enthusiastic. Falling down makes us better because we learn how to get up.
24. Why did the author get angry that day
A. She was tired. B. She failed in a test.
C. She was late for school. D. She had to walk home by herself.
25. What does“held her ground”in Paragraph 2 probably mean
A. insisted on her idea. B. said yes to me.
C. stayed in the place. D. gave in to me.
26. How does the author feel about her childhood experience
A. Meaningful. B. Terrible. C. Embarrassing. D. Colorful.
27. What is the best title for the text
A. My Way of Growing B. My Love for Mother
C. The Meaning of Failure D. Failure in My Life

If you don’t want people to know much about you, you’d better keep your fridge contents secret, according to a British market research document released last week.
Researchers studied the fridges of 400 people in Britain and compared the contents with the owners’lifestyles. They claim to be able to classify the nation’s people by fridge contents. They say those people can be separated into five categories: nutrition nerds (痴迷者),food trend chasers ( whatever is fashionable), strict mums, fast food fans and restaurant regulars.
Nutrition nerds care much about what they put into their bodies. Their fridges are filled with fruit, vegetables and healthy meat. People in this category tend to be highly organized and usually work as lawyers or accountants (会计). The majority of them are single, but if they have a partner, that person will be similar.
A fridge full of vitamins — enriched juices shows its owner works in media or fashion. They tend not to eat the foods they buy. Known as the food trend chasers, they just want to be seen buying the latest important things.
A fridge filled with everything from steak to frozen fish suggests the strict mum. Her fridge tends to be filled with every kind of product, except what she herself wants. This fridge shows difficulty in balancing family and work life.
Fast food fans always buy mineral water or soda pop. The nearest they will get to fresh fruit is tomato sauce. Their fridges show someone who works hard and plays hard, and someone who doesn’t like long term planning.
Finally, a fridge filled with only a bottle of white wine and some sparkling mineral water shows an owner who is single, lives in a big city and enjoys the finer things in life. The fridge is empty because this person regularly eats in restaurants.
28. What did the researchers find out
A. People in Britain like to eat out.
B. Most British people don’teat healthily.
C. There are five types of people in the world.
D. People’s characters can be reflected by their fridge contents.
29. What can you infer about nutrition nerds
A. They rarely eat meat.
B. They are mostly single.
C. They care about food quality and expenses.
D. Their lives are organized by lawyers or accountants.
30. What do we know about the five types of people
A. Nutrition nerds are always organized and successful in their jobs.
B. Strict mums care about others in family more than themselves.
C. Food-trend chasers like to fill their fridges with tasty foods.
D. Fast food fans usually fill their fridges with fresh fruit.
31. What will those who often eat out put in the fridge
A. Food rich in vitamins.
C. Fast food with tomato sauce.
B. Only something to drink.
D. Food from restaurants.

Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso and Leonardo da Vinci ... the art world has never lacked talent. And now, a new painter is ready to join the list, although this one isn’teven human.
Next month, the auction house (拍卖行) Christie’s Prints and Multiples will make history by offering the first piece of artwork created by artificial intelligence (AI) for sale. The painting is a portrait of a man called Edmond, and is expected to be sold for up to $ 10,000.
The work, which features a man with a mysterious look on his face, was created by software developed by a French art group. Nicolas Laugero Lasserre, an art collector, called the work “strange but amazing”. This isn’tthe first example of AI produced artwork, as AI has already been used to write poems and compose songs. However, many people doubt whether it should be called art at all.
According to Russian writer Leo Tolstoy (1828 - 1910), art is about creating emotion. It’s“a means of joining people together in the same feelings, ”he once said.
So, if the emotion behind art is what makes it, the ability to create and use tools is what makes human beings different from other species. And as a tool itself, the AI technology used to create the portrait is the result of a lot of efforts made by several designers. Together, they“fed”the AI many paintings from the 14th to the 18th centuries, until it was able to work out how to make similar paintings of its own.
The introduction of AI art could be the beginning of a new artistic movement. However, not everyone is ready to welcome these high-tech artists.
“The human mind is what’s behind the AI technology. And the human mind is not a cold, hard fact, ”said Oscar Schwartz, a professor of Al.“Rather, it is something that’s created with our opinions and something that changes over time. ”
32. Why does the writer mention these famous artists in Paragraph 1
A. To introduce talented artists’works. B. To make an advertisement for famous artists.
C. To explain a new art form — AI. D. To introduce a new painter — AI.
33. What can we learn about the AI produced artwork according to Paragraph 5
A. It results from human works. B. It beats human artworks completely.
C. It expresses human feelings effectively. D. It is beyond the imagination of humans.
34. What does Oscar Schwartz think of the human mind compared with the AI
A. Limited. B. Difficult. C. Decisive D. Meaningful.
35. What’s the main idea of this passage
A. An auction house will make history by selling AI artworks.
B. A great many artists think AI-produced artworks are amazing.
C. AI technology can be used to create portraits with the designers’efforts.
D. AI artworks have come out, but different people hold different opinions.

W: Good. But how did it happen
M: It was a rainy Monday morning. I was driving to work on the 6th Street and when I was close to my company I crashed into a pole.
W: You drove too fast, I suppose.
M: Yes, and I regret it.
W: Remember the lesson. I hope you will return to work soon.

M: What’s the matter, honey
W: Well, I don’t like my job as a typist. Sitting in front of the machine for a long time makes me feel bored.
M: Then what do you want to do
W: I’d like to do some service work, like working in a hotel.
M: That’s funny. But the pay is not high.
W: Well, by working in a hotel, I can meet all kinds of tourists from home and abroad.
M: Do you have any particular hotel in mind
W: I hope to get a job at the Holiday Hotel. That is a well–known hotel, and it’s not far from our home.
M: But you have to work at night.
W: It’s OK as long as I feel interested, I think.
M: If so, who will look after little Jimmy at night
W: If I can’t, you can ask your mother for help.
M: Honey, Jimmy is only one year old. I hope you can think it over.

W: I’d like to speak to Mr. Shone, please.
M: This is Mr. Shone.
W: Oh, hello. This is Sally Johnson. A window of my living room was broken this afternoon. Can you repair it
M: Sure. I can come over tomorrow afternoon. Is that OK
W: Could you come over now
M: OK, I’ll come over and take a look in a little while.
W: You charge about 100, don’t you
M: Usually, if it is a small window. Didn’t I repair a window for you a few weeks ago
W: Yes, you did.
M: Oh, your children have broken the window again Were they playing volleyball in the house
W: Well, no. I told them not to do that any more. This time I broke it by accident when I was cleaning my room.
M: OK, I’m coming soon.
