Table manners are how to behave when you eat a meal. Different countries have different table manners. Now let’s see how to eat in public in the following countries.
Japan
It is okay to make some noises when you eat noodles in Japan. Unlike making big noises, making some noises is not rude but is a compliment to the chef. The Japanese also say it tastes better if you make some noises.
What else to watch: It’s important to say “thanks” before and after a meal.
France
In France, a meal is like a ceremony (典礼). People enjoy it and make it a special event. You should never discuss money or religion (宗教信仰) over dinner, and going Dutch (各自付账) is not very polite.
What else to watch: You need to finish everything on your plate.
Mexico
In Mexico, whenever you catch the eye of someone who’s eating, even a stranger, it’s good manners to say “provecho”, which means “enjoy”.

Researchers went to the restrooms at a baseball park in Atlanta and a science museum in Chicago. They also visited two train stations in New York City and a large farmers’ market in San Francisco. 7

A new study shows that the French spend more time sleeping and eating than anyone else among the world’s developed nations.
The average (普通的) French person sleeps almost nine hours every night, more than an hour longer than the average Japanese and Korean, who sleep the least in a survey of 18 members of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
Although the Spanish have their siesta (午睡) habit, they rank only third after Americans, who sleep more than 8.5 hours.
Although more and more French people choose to eat at a fast-food restaurant these days or eat a sandwich very quickly at their desk, they still spend more than two hours a day eating. That means their meals are twice as long as those of the average Mexican, who spend just over an hour a day on food, the OECD’s “Society at a Glance” report on work, health and free time in Asia, Europe and North and South America found.
Although the Japanese work long hours, they still spend close to two hours a day eating and drinking, placing them third behind New Zealanders. Americans spend about an hour and a quarter eating each day.
The Japanese like to spend their free time watching TV or listening to the radio. Turks, on the other hand, spend more than a third of their free time with friends. Norwegians have the most free time, just over a quarter of their day, while at the low end, Mexicans spend just 16% of their time having fun.
