基本概念：过去进行时表示在过去某一时刻或某一段时间内进行或发生的动作。
基本结构
主语+was/were + doing +其他内容
注:doing 就是现在分词，词形变化与现在进行时相同

过去进行时主要表示：
在过去某一时刻正在进行的动作
（a） They were eating breakfast at 7:00 am yesterday .
（b） I was writing a letter at this time last Sunday .
★at+时间点, at this time, at that time + 过去时间
在过去某一段时间一直在进行的动作
（a） From 1983 to 1998 , he was teaching at Yale .
（b） They were building a cinema last winter .
★ 时间段： from … to … + 过去时间
需要用过去进行时的时间状语：
at 6 p.m. yesterday
this time yesterday
at the same time last year
from 8:00 to 10:00 last night
过去进行时的“时光机”
常用的时间状语
　this morning, the whole morning,

答案C. 割伤手指是已发生的事情，应用过去时。同 时，when表时间的同时性，"玛丽在做衣服时"提供事情发生的背景，因此用过去进行时。

答案B.句中的as = when, while，意为"当……之时"。描述一件事发生的背景时，用过去进行；一个长动作发生的时候，另一个短动作发生。句意为 "在她看报纸时，奶奶睡着了。"句中的 fell (fall的过去时)，是系动词，后跟形容词，如：fall sick。
