I went snowboarding in France with my little brother and what we lacked in skill was made up for in enthusiasm. That day, fresh snow had been falling. We stopped near the top of an off path section. I let my brother disappear into the trees ahead, figuring I would soon catch up.
I began to pick up speed when I was suddenly thrown off balance. Just as I was regaining control, I ran into the trunk of a large tree. It was like hitting a solid wall. The pain was instant.
I quickly realized the situation could get very serious. Nobody would be coming past. There was no phone signal. It was snowing and cold. If I waited, I would probably be rescued eventually. But the chance of freezing to death before that happened was too high for me to risk staying put.
I managed to get the board off from my feet and moved it under my stomach so I was lying on it. I faced down the mountain and used the board to slowly drag and slide my body down the steep, tree lined slope (斜坡).
It took about two hours before a skier found me and I got help. I couldn't feel my hands or my toes from the cold, but the relief at knowing I was safe was massive.
I had broken one of my backbones, so I had an operation where the doctors inserted plates. The constant pain was unbearable, but it wasn't as bad as seeing the pain and worry I put my family through.
The recovery road was tough, but I was lucky. Gradually, I was able to walk, then swim, then cycle and then run. I haven't been back to the slopes yet, but it might happen someday—I will, however, choose the paths.
24.How did the author feel at the start of snowboarding
A.Confident. B.Amused.
C.Nervous. D.Panic.

A.Follow the safer path.
B.Do more sports activities.
C.Receive training in the future.
D.Never go snowboarding again.
27.What is the purpose of this text
A.To share a lesson.
B.To keep a diary.
C.To recommend a sport.
D.To make a comment.

Losing your ability to think and remember is pretty frightening. We know the risk of dementia (痴呆症) increases with age. But if you have memory slips, you probably needn't worry. There are pretty clear differences between signs of dementia and age related memory loss.
After age 50, it's quite common to have trouble remembering the names of people, places and things quickly, says Dr. Kirk Daffner of Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.
The brain ages just like the rest of the body. Certain parts become smaller, especially areas in the brain that are important to learning, memory and planning. Changes in brain cells can affect communication between different regions of the brain. And blood flow can be reduced as blood vessels narrow.
Forgetting the name of an actor in a favorite movie, for example, is nothing to worry about. But if you forget the plot of the movie or don't remember even seeing it, that's far more concerning, Daffner says.
When you forget entire experiences, he says, that's “a red flag that something more serious may be involved”. Forgetting how to operate a familiar object like a microwave oven, or forgetting how to drive to the house of a friend you've visited many times before can also be signs of something going wrong.
But even then, Daffner says, people shouldn't panic. There are many things that can cause confusion and memory loss, including health problems like temporary stoppage of breathing during sleep, high blood pressure, or depression, as well as medications (药物) like antidepressants.
You don't have to figure this out on your own. Daffner suggests going to your doctor to check on medications, health problems and other issues that could be affecting memory. And the best defense against memory loss is to try to prevent it by building up your brain's cognitive (认知的) reserve, Daffner says.
“Read books, go to movies, take on new hobbies or activities that force one to think in novel ways,” he says. In other words, keep your brain busy and working. And also get physically active, because exercise is a known brain booster.
28.Why does the author say that one needn't be concerned about memory slips
A.Not all of them are related to one's age.
B.Not all of them are symptoms of dementia.
C.They occur only among certain groups of people.
D.They are quite common among fifty year old people.
29.Which memory related symptom should people take seriously
A.Totally forgetting how to do one's daily routines.
B.Inability to recall details of one's life experiences.
C.Failure to remember the names of movies or actors.
D.Occasionally confusing the addresses of one's friends.
30.What should people do when signs of serious memory loss show up
A.Check the brain's cognitive reserve.
B.Stop medications affecting memory.
C.Turn to a professional for assistance.
D.Exercise to improve their well being.
31.What is Dr.Daffner's advice for fight against memory loss
A.Having regular physical and mental checkups.
B Taking medicine that helps boost one's brain.
C.Engaging in known memory repair activities.
D.Staying active both physically and mentally.
D
Most of us marry creativity to our concept of self either we're “creative” or we aren't, without much of a middle ground. “I'm just not a creative person!” a frustrated student might say in art class, while another might blame her talent at painting for her difficulties in math, giving a comment such as, “I'm very right brained.”
Dr. Pillay, a tech entrepreneur and an assistant professor at Harvard University, has been challenging these ideas. He believes that the key to unlocking your creative potential is to ignore the traditional advice that urges you to “believe in yourself”. In fact, you should do the opposite: Believe you are someone else.
Dr. Pillay points to a 2016 study demonstrating the impact of stereotypes on one's behavior; The authors, educational psychologists Denis Dumas and Kevin Dunbar, divided their college student subjects into three groups, instructing the members of one to think of themselves as “romantic poets” and the members of another to imagine they were “serious librarians” (the third group was the control). The researchers then presented all the participants with ten ordinary objects, including a fork, a carrot, and a pair of pants, and asked them to come up with as many different uses as possible for each one. Those who were asked to imagine themselves as romantic poets came up with the widest range of ideas, whereas those in the serious librarian group had the fewest. Meanwhile, the researchers found only small differences in students' creativity levels across academic majors.
These results suggest that creativity is not a fixed individual characteristic but a “malleable product of context and perspective”, as long as he or she feels like a creative person. Dr. Pillay argues that, besides identifying yourself as creative, taking the bold, creative step of imagining you are somebody else is even more powerful. So, wish you were more creative Just pretend!
32.According to the passage, who is more likely to unlock his creative potential
A.An art major who always believes in himself.
B.A math major who has excellent academic performance.
C.A physics major who likes to imagine himself as a poet.
D.A history major who works as a librarian on weekends.
33.What does the Study conducted by Denis Dumas and Kevin Dunbar focus on
A.The creativity of the college students.
B The stereotypes of the college students.
C.The impact of stereotypes on one's behavior.
D.The influence of creativity on one's behavior.
34.What does the underlined word in the last paragraph probably mean
A.Stable. B.Sustainable.
C.Predicable. D.Changeable.
35.Dr. Pillay may agree with the statement that ________.
A.there is no doubt that we are either creative or not
B.a student who doesn't do well in art class is not creative
C.right brain determines whether a person is creative or not
D.if we pretend to be creative, then we might be really creative

Endangered Species
An endangered species is a group of animals that could soon become extinct. 36.________ Many species are nearly extinct and could disappear off the face of the earth very soon if we don't do anything to save them. There are many reasons why species become endangered.
Habitat destruction is the main reason why animals become endangered and this happens in two ways. When humans move into a new area, the animals' habitat is destroyed and there is nowhere for them to live and nothing to eat because humans chop down trees and build houses and farms. 37.________ Chemicals in rivers and poisons on farms cause the destruction of animals' homes and food supplies.
38.________ Animals have been brought to the edge of extinction because they are killed for their highly valued meat, fur, bones or skin, or just for sport. Overfishing has resulted in many large sea creatures like whales and sharks becoming endangered species.
39.________ We should take care not to pollute natural areas, and farmers or companies who destroy animal habitats should face severe financial penalties. The public can help out by refusing to buy any products made from these animals' body parts. Governments can help, too, by making it against the law to hunt, fish or trade in endangered species. They can also provide funding for animal sanctuaries, to protect animals from extinction by breeding more endangered animals, which they later release into the wild. 40.________
A.Animal habitats are also destroyed because of pollution.
B.Endangered species are also the result of hunting and fishing.
C.Eventually, all the creatures on Earth will enjoy being together.
D.Recent changes, however, have helped to improve the situation.
E.So what can individuals and governments do to protect endangered species
F.Extinction happens when the last of the species has died out and there will be no more.
G.If we all cooperate and take these steps, we will protect these animals for future generations.

The rain came down steady and hard. Jason Storie heard it but was not worried as he prepared for a day of caving with five friends in a remote spot 80 miles northwest of his home in Duncan, on Canada's Vancouver Island.
It was 6 a.m. on December 5, 2020. As a newcomer to the sport, Jason had gone caving only four times. This would be his toughest outing yet: a cave called Cascade. It was dangerous enough that the entrance was blocked by a locked metal door to keep the casual cavers out. About a mile long and 338 feet deep, Cascade was full of tums and barely passable tight squeezes.
Jason was new among the group, with the least experience and, at 43, older by a decade or more. It was his friend Andrew Munoz, 33, who introduced him to the sport. Unlike Jason, Andrew was an expert caver—a former caving guide, actually.
They hiked a bit before coming to the door, which sat in the ground—you'd miss it if you weren't looking for it. It was 10 a.m. With their way lighted by headlamps, they walked down a narrow passage studded with sharp rocks. The silence was broken by a drip drip drip from above. Soon the drip turned into a light but steady flow, and they were wading in water up to their ankles, then to their shins.
Two hours later, they approached one of the features that made the cave unique: a narrow passage not big enough to stand up in that led into a short, tight downhill. This had a name: Bastard's Crawl. Four streams met here, and indeed, the water was flowing more quickly. The sound of the water had turned into a roar. When they finally neared the top of the Crawl, there were barely four inches of air left between the water and the ceiling, not enough for them to keep their heads up to breathe. They came to terrifying realization that they were in danger!
注意:续写词数应为150左右。
The water kept rising, and there was no hope of rescue.

M:Ah, yes. It's the same in our country. What about smoking
W:It is against the law to buy cigarettes or tobacco if you're under 16.
M:That's a good law. Most countries have many teens that smoke.
W:Yes, it has actually become a serious social problem for us here. Okay, the biggest thing you'll need to watch out for is our traffic, as it's quite different from that in other countries. You should be careful when crossing the road, as the traffic moves on the left side of the road here. Always use the crossings for walking.
M:Yes, it's really unique!
W:And don't take any chances when crossing the road. I think the last thing you should be aware of is littering. It is against the law to throw away rubbish on the streets or in other public places. Whenever you have something to throw away, just put it in one of the litter bins along the road, or just put it in your pocket and throw it away at home.
M:Thanks so much for telling us all this.
(Text 10)
Hello, everyone. Today, I'm going to share with you a little about the kinds of foods that English people eat.
A traditional English breakfast consists of eggs, fried bread, mushrooms, bacon, tomatoes and baked beans, but most English people today prefer a breakfast of hot or cold grain, juice, and a warm drink of either tea or coffee.
The English lunch is normally eaten between 12:00 noon and 1:30 pm, and most often consists of a sandwich. Along with the sandwich, an English person might have a bag of potato chips, fruit or biscuits. A glass of beer might also be added to lunch if the person eats in one of the many pubs; otherwise,a tea or coffee. Fish and chips, often wrapped in a piece of paper, are still a favorite among English dinners.
The afternoon tea is simply a time to snack on a bag of potato chips or a few biscuits, and drink a quick cup of tea or coffee. Tiny cakes and sweets are often eaten as well. Tea is also an old fashioned term for dinner, some English people still say “tea” when they mean the last main meal of the day.

第四部分 写作(共两节,满分40分)
第一节(满分15分)
One possible version:
It's my great honour to be here and give a speech on saving food.
Speaking of food, tons of cooked and served food ends up in trash cans every year. Wasting food means wasting resources like water, land and energy. Therefore, it will damage the environment in the long run.
Realizing the severe consequences of wasting food, I've been doing my bit to save food. At the school cafeteria, I ask for half size servings when I'm not hungry. When dining out in restaurants with family or friends, I propose ordering smaller portions and taking the leftovers home.
Saving food benefits every one of us. Let's clean our plates today so that we can have enough for tomorrow.
That's all. Thank you for listening.
第二节(满分25分)
One possible version:
The water kept rising, and there was no hope of rescue. The hours passed. Jason and Andrew didn't dare to move for fear of slipping. They dozed off and then jerked themselves awake. Every once in a while, one of them turned on his headlamp to check the water level. An hour later, the water level went down enough that they could try an escape. Stiff from keeping in one position for 12 hours, they slowly unfolded their bodies. Jason screamed in pain, but he was determined not to let it stop him.
Slowly but steadily, the group made their way forward. Still, each time Jason moved a leg, he cried out. Over the next 90 minutes, they made their way toward the entrance, at times in chest high water. Now, in a passage that was high enough for them to walk upright, Jason saw something flicker in the distance. “Lights! I see lights!” Jason shouted out. For the first time since entering the cave, over 20 hours earlier, Jason's emotions got the best of him and tears trickled down his cheeks.
