1.I get average grades in all of my subjects except English,
but sometimes I make stupid mistakes.

except介词，意为“除了……”
[辨析]except, besides与but
except表示“除了……”,表示在总数中减去。
beside表示“除了……之外；还有”，指包括在总体范围内。
but but常与all连用，与except表示的意思相同，还可与no one,
none, nothing等否定词连用。
