“Easy come, easy go” as the old saying goes. It’s easy to do easy things, but they don’t carry the challenges and rewards of doing something difficult. Stanley said he tried to express that view everywhere he went. And he spoke from experience, having spent a career that included the time as a NASA astronaut, US Navy captain, fighter pilot, and engineer.
Stanley spoke at the University of North Alabama, sharing stories about his experience of spending a year on the International Space Station (ISS). He said the physical pressure of living in weightlessness for a year was hard to describe and that the fluids in his head sometimes made him feel like he was standing on his head. It also needed some time to recover when he returned home. “My legs were weak and it would be uncomfortable to sit for a while because my body hadn’t had that pressure so long,” Stanley said.
He discussed life aboard the Space Station, including spending time with Russian astronauts. He had managed to get along well with everyone aboard as they lived together, worked together, and had to rely on each other. He thought it was one of the most rewarding things in his life.
Though life there was not easy, Stanley never regretted being an astronaut and going to space. He also discussed experiences growing up, admitting that he wasn’t always the greatest student but was able to overcome that through hard work and determination.
“Never give up or lower your dreams. If you work for it, all things are possible. There is a zero percent chance of succeeding if you don’t even try. And when you succeed after trying hard, you’ll find it really rewarding,” Stanley said in the end.
4. Based on Stanley’s experience, which is his major occupation
A. A speaker. B. A spaceman.
C. A firefighter. D. A scientist.
5. What may benefit Stanley most when he lived with Russian astronauts
A. He developed good relationships with others.
B. He picked up different cultures.
C. He found the fun of living in the Space Station.
D. He won some awards through teamwork.
6. Which of the following can best describe Stanley

Washington D.C. serves as the capital of the United States. The name, District of Columbia honors Christopher Columbus, and the city’s better-known name of Washington, honors the first president. However, it once again ranked first in terms of dangerous driving. The probability of a traffic accident in Washington residents is 109.3% higher than the national average.
As a result, Washington D.C. is working to identify drivers with a history of breaking traffic rules, such as speeding and illegal parking, to send pointed message to warn them seriously of their risks of getting into a deadly crash.
City officials say they hope the pointed messages will deter dangerous road behaviors. “ Some drivers are putting others at serious risk with speeding and red-light running and we hope that this creative approach can gradually reduce serious injury and crashes.” said Jeff Melley, director of the city’s Department of Transportation.
Researchers have studied the relationship between repeated traffic offenders and serious crashes, with some data suggesting a strong connection between the two. That means, drivers with multiple dangerous road behaviors are more likely to be involved in crashes. A team from The Lab led by researchers from the MIT will create a campaign. “We will evaluate whether high-risk drivers who receive these messages have fewer dangerous road behaviors, compared to the group of high-risk drivers who do not receive the messages.”
City officials said the purpose of these pointed messages is to educate the high-risk drivers. Jeff said, “there is no punishment or fine attached to the message and the campaign is to use data to directly communicate with individual drivers.” So some questioned whether the message will work. Anyway, efficient measures begin with creative tryouts.

A. Prevent. B. Increase.
C. Encourage. D. Discover.
10. What can we infer from paragraph 4
A. Traffic offenders always cause serious accidents.
B. New drivers bear less blame for serious collisions.
C. Repeated traffic offenders are more likely to cause serious accidents.
D. Traffic offenders should not spend too much time on the road.
11. How do the team from The Lab know whether the approach works
A. By sending messages to the drivers.
B. By comparing the impact of the approach on two groups.
C. By predicting the possibility of a driver’s involvement in a crash.
D. By checking the response of the receivers who get the messages.

We have to spare no effort to make this region ready for tigers and involve all the relevant people to make this happen. That means dealing with illegal activities, having these people who govern parks be well trained and equipped, increasing prey populations and involving local communities,” said Sabrina, Director of the WWF program.

Elsa loved school. However, there was one class Elsa worried about more than any other—art. She didn’t know why she just wasn’t any good at drawing, painting, or cutting.
Ms. Daniel, the art teacher, stood at the front of the room. “Class, next Friday our school is going to have an art competition,” she announced. Ms. Daniel was a great teacher, and Elsa liked her a lot. But this announcement made Elsa nervous. “Everyone in the school will create a piece of artwork to show in the library. You can use the different types of artwork we have been studying.” Ms. Daniel was quite excited when she spoke while Elsa found herself sinking lower in her chair.
Elsa had the whole weekend to work on her project, but she could not think of anything to do. On Monday, Elsa felt frightened, so after school Elsa asked Ms. Daniel if she could write an art paper instead of doing an art project.
“I understand this project scared you, Elsa,” Ms. Daniel said. “Just remember, you can create any kind of art you want.” Ms. Daniel smiled at her. “Art is a person’s way of expressing his or her feelings—it isn’t always painting, drawing, or cutting. I know you will think of something very creative, and I can’t wait to see it.”
When Elsa arrived home, she took out a piece of paper and a pencil. She remembered Ms. Daniel’s words. “Art is a person’s way of expressing his or her feelings.” Elsa wrote the word “terrified” on her paper. She crumpled(揉皱) the paper and threw it to the side of her desk.
Paragraph 1:
Then Elsa stared at the crumpled ball.

Paragraph 2:

Then Elsa stared at the crumpled ball. It reminded her of a snowball. Suddenly an idea struck her. Why not create a winter wonderland out of crumpled paper Elsa didn't have to draw or paint or even cut. Elsa made many paper balls, glued them all together, and placed them on a big piece of hard paper to form a snowman. The snowman wore a hat made of black paper and a scarf made of red paper. Her finished project was really wonderful.
Paragraph 2:
On Friday, Elsa carefully carried her project into the library. She noticed the smile and the nods from teachers and other students as she put her work on a table. Ms.Clay walked over to Elsa “You have created a creative piece of artwork. I am so proud of you!” Ms. Clay said. Elsa was proud of herself too. Her pride grew when Ms. Clay placed a first-place star on her artwork. “ Maybe I am a good artist after all,” Elsa thought.

8. What do we know about the approach to sending pointed messages
A. It may put the drivers at serious risk of crashing.
B. It can punish drivers with records of traffic accidents.
C. It will completely reduce serious injury and deadly crashes.
D. It is the newest attempt with the aim of reducing serious traffic accidents.
9. What does the underlined word “deter” in paragraph 3 probably mean
A. Prevent. B. Increase.
C. Encourage. D. Discover.

Plans to bring wild tigers back to their original home, their historical range (历史分布范围) in the Ili-Balkhash region, have been announced by Kazakhstan(哈萨克斯坦). “It will not only bring wild tigers back to their original home, but also protect the unique ecosystem of the Ili-Balkhash region,” said Bater Myrzakhmetov, the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Since the beginning of the 20th century, wild tigers have lost over 90 percent of their historical range. Wild tigers have completely disappeared from the region since the late 1940s, due to the loss of habitat.
To prepare for the return of wild tigers, on 1st January 2021 Kazakhstan set up a new nature reserve in the southwestern Ili-Balkhash, in order to restore the unique forest habitat. This will include the protection of existing wildlife, and reintroducing important prey (猎物), such as the endangered wild Bactrian deer. “The hard work remains ahead of us. We have to spare no effort to make this region ready for tigers and involve all the relevant people to make this happen. That means dealing with illegal activities, having these people who govern parks be well trained and equipped, increasing prey populations and involving local communities,” said Sabrina, Director of the WWF program.
The significance of the protection of animals, and not just to save the lives of one or two animals, but to fight for the right of creatures on the earth. Animal protection is science, in essence, the protection of animals is to protect human beings themselves. Animals are our reference; respect for animals is respect for our own.

A. Favorable. B. Concerned.
C. Disapproving. D. Doubtful.
