The Netherlands doesn't disappoint when it comes to architectural wonders on the water, like, floating office buildings. Now a newly-built 3D-printed bridge that runs across a canal impresses the world.
Recently, an impressive 3D-printed bridge has been completed in Nijmegen, a Dutch city, in honor of the city earning the title of European Green Capital, adding a new landmark to this city. This new bridge broke the record as the largest 3D-printed bridge. The size of the bridge is 29 meters, sitting across the water. It is also the first 3D structure that is strong and safe enough for people to walk on.
According to an official, Alderman, "We are honored to receive this 3D-printed bridge. Nijmegen is a city of bridges where a great many attractive bridges of all types crossing rivers can be seen. This bridge is a wonderful complement. The bridge leads to connection: in the design and construction stage it connected the different partners, and from now on the bridge connects our residents. "
According to Salet, an experienced architect, "3D-printed structures are designed on a computer and then printed piece by piece. The printing of concrete costs less because the concrete printer only adds material where it actually supports the construction. We can also greatly increase the construction speed. In the future, we want to make concrete more sustainable and also reuse it. There is much more we can achieve in 3D-printed structures. I am also proud that the knowledge developed has found its way to the industry so quickly."
3D-printed construction marked a new era of architecture. As 3D printing construction technologies continue to advance, bridge-building architects and companies are becoming more ambitious with their designs. A 40-meter pedestrian footbridge in Paris for the 2024 Olympic Games is in plan now.

C. To celebrate the city getting an honor. D. To provide convenience for local people.
9. What does the underline word "complement" in Paragraph 3 mean
A. Change. B. Addition. C. Attraction. D. Surprise.
10. What does Salet think about 3D printing construction
A. It has a promising future. B. It is environment friendly.
C. It raises the cost of design. D. It requires greater efforts.
11. What is the best title of this text
A. The Benefits of 3D-Printed Structures B. The Approach of an Architectural New Era
C. 3D-Printing Technology Is Changing the World D. Nijmegen Now Has the Largest 3D-Printed Bridge.

Plastic particles have made their way into air, water and soil around the world. Now a new research shows a way to help solve this problem, at least in water, with microrobots. When added to water, the tiny devices gather on plastic particles and begin breaking them down.
When there is light, these star-shaped devices begin to absorb energy from and react with the surrounding water. “Powered by light, the robots move to sweep a much larger area than you can touch with other technologies,” says study co-author Pumera, “As the micro-robots are attached to plastic, some chemicals are produced, breaking down the plastic particles.”
The researchers tested the micro-robots on four types of plastic. After a week, all four began breaking down, losing between 0.5 and 3 percent of their weight. In another test, the micro-robots drove themselves through a small channel and were collected by a magnet, bringing along up to 70 percent of plastic particles pieces for the ride.
Pumera foresees that these robots will be put into the sea to collect plastic particles for reuse. But Cowger, an expert in plastic pollution says micro-robots are probably limited to closed systems, like systems which are used to treat drinking water or wastewater.
Cowger notes that the micro-robots can be attached to substances besides plastic and might not be safe if left in the water in large numbers. For now, Cowger says, “the best way to remove plastic particles is to stop them from getting there in the first place.”
“The work is really interesting, but it needs further experiments to make this approach a really practical technology to deal with the huge numbers of plastic particles,” according to Peter Edwards, a chemist in Oxford.
12. What’s the main idea of Paragraph 2
A. The shape of the robots. B. The disadvantages of the robots.
C. The power supply of the robots. D. The working process of the robots.
13. Which word can best describe the micro-robots’ performance in the tests
A. Satisfactory. B. Disappointing. C. Unexpected. D. Perfect.
14. What will Cowger and Peter Edwards probably agree with
A. Micro-robots should be banned. B. Micro-robots need to be improved.
C. Plastic problem is difficult to solve. D. Micro-robots present better solutions.
15. In which column of a magazine can you most probably find this text
A. Climate. B. Health. C. Environment. D. Geography.
【答案】12. D 13. A 14. B 15. C

10.考查宾语从句连接词。句意同上。分析可知,for后内容为宾语从句,did为动词,此处在这只狗因为它做的事情获得了奖章,所以用连接代词what,表示“所做的事”,故which改为what。

8. Why was the bridge built in Nijmegen
A. To set a world record in architecture. B. To build more landmarks in this city.

After a week all four began breaking down, losing between 0.5 and 3 percent of their weight.
