Whether a student is moving to a new college or attending for the first time, there is a certain period of adjustment that's required. Students that have never previously attended college must adjust to life as college freshmen(大学一年级新生). With college, there comes a new level of responsibility in terms of education. Students are confronted(面临)with classes that are often more challenging. During their freshman year, students may feel at a loss or stressed about these changes to their new life. Fortunately, there are ways for students to adjust successfully to college life.
Get Involved
Getting involved in college activities can help freshmen adjust to college life. Activities can help students feel as if they are a part of their environment, and help them to relieve(缓解)some of the everyday stress associated with classes and studying. Students may consider getting involved in clubs, sports, student organizations, or other activities that take place outside of the classroom. This will also allow them to meet and interact with new people on campus.
Stay Positive
Freshmen have a lot to adjust to and at times it can feel like too much to handle. When a student feels at a loss by meeting new people, adjusting to new professors, studying, and college life in general, he or she may start to feel negative about the whole experience. When this happens, it is crucial that students stay positive with both their behavior and thoughts. Associating with people who have a positive outlook on their college experience and avoiding those who do not are great ways to feel better. Thinking of long-term goals will also help students feel more positive about college and education in general.
Go to Class
Attending classes is one of the most important student responsibilities. With the new found freedom that college brings, some freshmen may want to skip classes for other activities. At certain colleges, attendance is critical, particularly for classes that are in high demand. Failure to attend may cause a student to be dropped from the class. In classes where attendance is not taken, students may miss critical information necessary for their studies and may fail the class. Unless a student is ill, he or she should make every effort to attend all of their classes in a timely manner.
Communicate Productively
New college students may feel uncomfortable when it comes to communicating their needs. This difficulty could arise when it comes to speaking with professors or with fellow students, such as roommates. No matter where the problem falls, it is necessary for freshman to develop the confidence and the skills to communicate effectively. Speaking with confidence and respect will help students to get the information that they need and help them to avoid confusion or complications with other students.

A. meeting new people on campus every day B. participating in college activities
C. pretending to be a part of their environment D. starting clubs or student organizations

A ninth-grade Aledo track standout who was the victim of an unusual accident with a deer has returned to the varsity team (校队) and says his story offers a lesson for everyone: “Never stop trying.”
Jack Fink, 14, has always loved to run. "I've been running long distance since I was in third grade," Fink said. "It's the wind in my face. Just going as fast as possible."
One morning last month, Fink was running along a golf course not far from school — practicing with his team — when something faster than him hit him hard from behind. “I saw the sky and then I saw the ground and then my ears started ringing," he said. Some teammates saw what happened and helped him up.
“They told me a couple of minutes after, ‘Jack, you got hit by a deer!’ And I was like, ‘What There's no way,’” he said Monday. He never even saw the deer, he said.
Fink was OK at first but as the hours went on his head started hurting. Fink then went to Cook Children's hospital. "They took me straight back to surgery and they told my mom and dad, ‘Hey, he may not make it,’” he said. X-rays found a skull fracture (颅骨骨折) and bleeding in his brain. He needed six screws (螺钉) to relieve the pressure, screws that will stay inside his head for the rest of his life.
He spent a few weeks at home recovering but wanted to run again. Not sure if he was up to it, his coaches put him on the junior varsity team at first.
"It's the craziest and the scariest thing I've had to deal with in my coaching career,” track coach Mike Pinkerton said of the incident. "He said, ‘Coach, I'm getting my spot back!’” Pinkerton said. At the junior varsity meet, Fink came in first. He then got his varsity spot back. “I felt like, ‘OK I can do this again. I'm back. I'm ready to run again,’” Fink said.
At a regional meet Monday in Lubbock, Fink was the fastest ninth-grader in the entire area. The state competition is in Round Rock next month, and Fink will be there with his team. "There's no excuse. You have to go through life and try your hardest with everything,” he said. “Never stop trying and just run.”

As she was waiting for her flight at a Chengdu airport, Cai Xiao noticed several tiny dead yellow birds lying on the ground outside an enormous window at the two-story terminal building. Deeply saddened by her discovery, Cai took photos of the dead animals and emailed them to a nationwide scientific survey of bird-window collisions(撞击)that aims to gather data to provide evidence of the existence of this issue in China.
Li Binbin, an assistant professor of Environmental Sciences at Duke Kunshan University in Jiangsu province, led the survey, working with several Chinese bird-watching societies starting from March this year. She said that, so far, they have found bird collisions recorded in most parts of the country, and of the 26 species involved, two-thirds were migratory birds(候鸟).
In order to pursue the transparency(透明度)of space, mankind has put up countless glass buildings, creating a disaster for birds, which have trouble seeing glass. They see reflections in glass as open space and fly into it at full speed. Sometimes birds appear to recover from their injuries and fly away, but they may later suffer internal injuries that leads to death.
In the United States, up to 1 billion birds die each year from hitting windows. Although there is a lack of data, scientists estimate that the number is similar in China, given that the country's east coast is on a major migratory route for birds.
Li launched the survey after witnessing a dozen bird collisions on campus. In 2018, the scholar and her students delivered a report to the university, recommending that it replace windows where most of the collisions happened. The school authorities worried that such an effort would damage the aesthetics(美观)of the buildings. After several discussions, they finally decided to use stickers to decorate windows and reduce glass reflections, Li recalled. This simple effort resulted in collisions at the site being reduced to almost zero.
In the design plan for the future campus project, Li saw that several of her suggestions were adopted: lowering the use of large windows;adding window designs with strips or other patterns to reduce reflections.
For those concerned with the issue, the main question is how to raise awareness of the problem. Li said the first step should be to gather enough data. So far, more than 130 individuals and 33 birding societies have reported bird collisions to her survey.
46. According to Para. 1, what happened at the airport
A. Some yellow birds were lying on the ground.
B. Cai sent the dead birds to a nationwide scientific survey of bird-window collisions.
C. Cai found that some birds had been killed by window collisions.
D. Cai missed her flight because of the bird collisions.
47. What can be concluded from Para. 3
A. The purpose of putting up more glass buildings is to blind birds.
B. All the birds were killed instantly.
C. The birds would like to fly into glass to see their reflections.
D. Glass buildings could easily cause bird collisions.
48. What can we learn from Para. 5
A. Li and her students' report saved a lot of birds.
B. The school authorities refused to damage the aesthetics of the buildings.
C. Finally, Li and her students used stickers to decorate windows and reduce glass reflections.
D. The school authorities replaced windows where most of the collisions happened.
49. What is the main problem in reducing bird collisions in China at present
A. How to draw people's attention to this issue
B. There are too many glass buildings.
C. How to reduce glass reflections
D. How to reduce bird collisions without damaging the aesthetics of the buildings
50. What could be the best title for the passage

Why are so many people unhappy in their jobs There are two primary reasons. First, some people are convinced that earning a living is wasting time that they could spend enjoying themselves or uncovering their true talents.
If this is the case with you, recall your last long vacation. Was it two weeks of complete enjoyment More likely it was a week and a half of fun in the sun, with another half a week of “Boy, I can’t wait to get back to work.”If you didn’t feel such vacation blues, then imagine taking a leave of absence. You could use it to work on a novel, attend classes or just sit around watching TV. At the end of three months, in all likelihood, your self-respect would be at an all-time low. While all work and no play are not good, all play and no work are disastrous. We need to feel we are accomplishing something. We also need some form of order in our lives.
The second and perhaps more common reason for people not to like their work is that they feel trapped. Once you’ve been at a company for five years and get married, have a mortgage(抵押贷款)and a child, you often feel you have very little choice about jumping ship if things aren’t turning out as you’d planned. A steady paycheck can be the biggest restrict of all. People hate having to do something because they have no other choice.
If you find yourself hating your job, your option takes the form of an up-to-date resume(简历). You might also take a weekly glance through the help-wanted section, and make some visits to industry functions where low-key networking can take place. You’re not giving up on your current job. Rather, you are providing yourself with an option. If things get unbearable at work, you could jump ship.
At the core of adopting a positive attitude to your workplace is, above all, assuming responsibility for your own situation. Most people feel controlled by their environment, but they really aren’t. They have to learn to manage that environment so they can get from it what they need.
51. Why do some people believe that working is wasting time
A. They think it can’t make them happy and display their natural abilities.
B. They think it prevents them from accompanying their families.
C. It can’t guarantee they can get the payoff satisfying their needs.
D. It makes them have no time to do their private things at will.
52. The second main reason for people’s unhappiness in their jobs is that they feel________.
A. they have been working in a company for too long B. they have no other way out but to keep working
C. they have to work to pay off their debts D. they are not permitted to change a job
53. With an up-to-date resume ready as an option, you may feel better at your job because________.
A. you have made a decision on your own
B. you have done wonders in your current job
C. you have chance to choose between two alternatives
D. you have chance to glance through the help-wanted section
54. It can be inferred that the author________.
A. thinks holding an “up-to-date resume” is the best way to remove the unhappiness in one’s job
B. can hardly tolerate one’s complete enjoyment of life
C. believes that one cannot change his/her environment
D. will support the idea that one should make a balance between working and enjoying life
55. What is the author’s attitude towards “self-respect”
A. Cautious. B. Negative. C. Supportive. D. Unconcerned.
【答案】51. A 52. B 53. C 54. D 55. B

China's first virtual student developed by Tsinghua University met fans on June 3, 2021 when she opened an account on China's Twitter-like Sina Weibo platform.
In the first Weibo post, the female virtual student named Hua Zhibing, greeted Chinese netizens and said that she would start studying in the computer laboratory in Tsinghua University.
A video introducing Hua Zhibing was published in her first Weibo post. In it, a young girl wanders around the campus while a female voice introduces herself.
“I've been addicted to literature and art since I was born. The scientists not only gave me my appearance and my voice but also taught me to compose," Hua Zhibing said, noting said the background music in the video was composed by her.
The girl in the video was a real person but the face and voice were virtually synthesized (合成的), Tang Jie, a professor at the Department of Computer Science of Tsinghua University, one of the major developers of Hua Zhibing, said during a forum on artificial intelligence held recently in Beijing.
Hua Zhibing officially registered and became a student of Tsinghua University on Tuesday. Developers said at the forum that they had high expectations for Hua Zhibing, hoping she could keep learning, exploring and cultivating the abilities of creativity and communication in the future. She might also be employed after graduating from the university, developers said.
Hua Zhibing was based on the latest version of a China-developed deep learning model, Wudao 2.0, which literally means “understanding of natural laws.” It can process 1.75 trillion parameters (亿万参数), breaking the record of 1.6 trillion previously set by Google's Switch Transformer AI language model.
The appearance of Hua Zhibing soon became a hot topic on Weibo. Some are amazed by how China has advanced in the field of artificial intelligence. Some netizens said they were curious whether scientists would create a humanoid robot(人形机器人)named Hua Zhibing, rather than a virtual face and voice. Some joked that if more robots like Hua Zhibing, which can learn and work, are created in the future, population decline would not be a problem in the world.
56. What did Hua Zhibing do in her first video (no more than 4 words)
57. What's the purpose of Hua Zhibing noting that the background music in the video was composed by her (no more than 8 words)
58. What does the underlined word in Paragraph 6 mean (1 word)
59. According to Paragraph 7, what do you know about Wudao 2.0 (no more than 10 words)
60. Do you like the idea of creating a humanoid robot in the future Why (no more than 20 words)
【答案】56 She greeted Chinese netizens.

第二部分:阅读理解(共20小题;每小题2.5分,满分50分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出一个最佳选项。
A
Whether a student is moving to a new college or attending for the first time, there is a certain period of adjustment that's required.
36. Freshmen can reduce daily stress by________.
A. meeting new people on campus every day B. participating in college activities
C. pretending to be a part of their environment D. starting clubs or student organizations
37. According to Paragraph 3, what factors may make freshmen feel depressed
A. Not knowing how to control their behavior and thoughts. B. Meeting too many people with positive outlook.
C. Not knowing how to face the new life in college. D. Thinking of long-term goals.
38. As is described in Paragraph 4, what happens if a student skip class
A. He or she can take part in other activities instead. B. He or she may fail in the exam.
C. He or she is considered free to do so. D. He or she may give up the class.
39. In communicating their needs, freshmen should________.
A. speak to those who respect them B. gain confidence from the other person
C. learn to be polite and confident D. ask all the people around to make sure
40. What is the purpose of the passage
A. To point out the importance of college life.
B. To encourage freshmen to enjoy their first college year.
C. To help freshmen to adapt to college life smoothly.
D. To introduce the challenges that freshmen will face.

41. When did the accident happen
A. When Fink was in third grade. B. While Fink was playing golf at the course.
C. Before Fink saw the sky. D. While Fink was training.
42. After hearing he was hit by a deer, Fink felt ________.
A. amused B. astonished C. annoyed D. disappointed
43. What could be inferred from Para. 5
A. The accident did him no harm. B. He had to replace screws for life.
C. He was taken to the hospital immediately after the accident. D. He had an operation on his head.
44. Why did the coach send Fink to the junior varsity team first
A. Because Fink was still weak after his recovery.
B. Because the coach doubted about his fitness for the race.
C. Because the coach was mad with Fink's decision.
D. Because Fink had to pass the junior varsity meet first.
45. Which of the following is the passage probably taken from
A. A novel. B. A newspaper. C. A brochure. D. A diary.

A. The Trouble with Glass Buildings B. Ways to Protect Birds
C. A Survey of Bird-window Collisions D. Fly to the Reflection

A they have been working in a company for too long B. they have no other way out but to keep working
C. they have to work to pay off their debts D. they are not permitted to change a job

The girl in the video was a real person but the face and voice were virtually synthesized (合成), Tang Jie, a professor at the Department of Computer Science of Tsinghua University, one of the major developers of Hua Zhibing, said during a forum on artificial intelligence held recently in Beijing.
