A professor I have worked pretty closely with has been diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer. It has been heartbreaking for us.
What made him extraordinary was not only that he was a rising star. He had only recently collected the highest honors for young researchers at the White House. We truly admired him- as someone put it, "He always has a smile and a kind word for everyone." It is very hard to find someone who is extremely intelligent should be so nice a human being.
I decided that we needed him to know our attitude and also how we are all praying for his recovery. I bought him a simple card which read, "Healing thoughts and wishes coming your way." I met all the students he worked closely with and got them to sign on it. Each student signed and also added a message. "We love you so much," "Please come back," "Thank you for being such an inspiring teacher”...These were some of the messages that were written. Most of the students were really glad we were doing this.
He is still undergoing treatments, and trying his best to stay optimistic and hopeful. I didn't see a sign of self-pity or sadness when I met him last week. Instead, he paid attention to every word of my presentation and asked me several questions related to my work. I was amazed at how much he gave his 100% on that day in spite of being in pain because of chemotherapy (化疗). He did not know if he even had another month to live. "I hope to be back this summer," he said,
Needless to say, I saw an expression of joy and hope on his face as he opened the card. He said he was truly touched to see the messages from the students he worked with.
There is one thing I learned from last week: It is so important to tell people how much they mean to us and what inspiration they are before it becomes too late. My professor, in spite of being too sick to teach classes, has managed to continue being a great teacher, introducing his last valuable message to us.

A. was still very confident B. was suffering from great pain
C. still cared for others D. didn't know he would die soon
44. Of the following statements, the author may agree that ________
A. the professor loves his job very much
B. the professor often feels sorry for himself
C. the professor will go back to teach this summer

Reading is the key to success. Apparently every successful person develops a passion for reading. This is because reading is a key element to obtain the information required to understand something. Future history books might record that we were robbed of the use of our eyes. In our hurry to get from one place to another, we fail to see anything on the way. Air travel gives you a bird’s—eye view of the world—— or even less if the wing of the aircraft happens to get in your way. When you travel by car or train, you are moving so quickly that you do not see the countryside clearly. Car drivers are forever thinking about going on and on; they never want to stop. Is it the great motorways, that attract them, or what And as for sea travel, it hardly deserves mention. It is perfectly summed up in the words of the old song, “I joined the navy to see the world, and what did I see I saw the sea.” You mention the place names in the world like EI Dorado, Kabul and someone is sure to say “I’ve been there” meaning “I drove through it at 100 miles an hour on the way to somewhere else.”
When you travel at high speed, the present means nothing: you live mainly in the future because you spend most of your time looking forward to arriving at some other places. But actual arrival, when it is achieved, is meaningless. You want to move on again. By traveling like this, you suspend (中止) all experience; the present stops being a reality: you might just as well be dead.
The traveler on foot, on the other hand, lives constantly in the present. For him traveling and arriving are one and the same thing: he arrives somewhere with every step he makes. He experiences the present moment with his eyes, his ears and the whole of his body. At the end of his journey he feels a delicious physical tiredness. Satisfying sleep will be his: the just reward of all true travelers.
51. The underlined words “get in your way” in Paragraph 1 can be replaced by ________
A. prevent you from going out of the plane halfway B. expand your range of vision
C. block your sights D. make your travel continue
52. What does the author think of the travelers mentioned in Paragraph 1
A. They fail to see the scenery with their hearts.
B. They make full use of their eyes.
C. They get a good view of the landscape.
D. They are eager to see everything on the way.
53. Why does “the present” mean “nothing” when we travel at high speed
A. Because we change our aims all the time.
B. Because we cannot enjoy the experience we have had.
C. Because we are looking forward to the future life.
D. Because we are eager to go to another place.
54. What will the author most probably advise us to do
A. To go hiking in the mountain.
B. To travel at high speed.
C. To travel by car or train.
D. To go around the world.
55. what would be the best title for the passage

划线词句前文“In our hurry to get from one place to another, we fail to see anything on the way. (我们匆忙地从一个地方赶往另一个地方,在路上什么也看不见。)”说明人们在旅行的路上什么也看不见,从而推知划线词句“Air travel gives you a bird’s—eye view of the world——or even less if the wing of the aircraft happens to get in your way. (乘飞机旅行,你只能俯视世界——如果机翼碰巧get in your way,你就看得更少了。)”其中划线短语应为“挡住你的视线(致使视野更小)”的意思,选项C“挡住你的视线”与之意义相同。故选C项。
【52题详解】
推理判断题。根据第一段中“In our hurry to get from one place to another, we fail to see anything on the way. (我们匆忙地从一个地方赶往另一个地方,在路上什么也看不见。)”以及“Car drivers are forever thinking about going on and on; they never want to stop. (汽车司机总是想着继续前行;他们从不想停下来。)”可以推知,作者认为他们没有用心去看风景。故选A项。
根据第二段中“When you travel at high speed, the present means nothing: you live mainly in the future because you spend most of your time looking forward to arriving at some other places. (当你高速旅行时,现在没有任何意义:你主要生活在将来,因为你花费大部分时间期待着到达其他地方。)”可以推知,当我们高速旅行时,因为我们渴望去另一个地方,所以“现在”就没有意义了。故选D项。
【54题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“The traveler on foot, on the other hand, lives constantly in the present. (另一方面,徒步旅行者总是生活在现在。对他来说,旅行和到达是同一件事:他是一步一步走到一个地方的。他用他的眼睛、耳朵和整个身体来体验现在。在他的旅程结束时,他感到一种愉快的身体上的疲劳。他将得到令人满意的睡眠:这是对所有真正旅行者的酬报。)”可以推知,作者最有可能建议我们在山上徒步旅行。故选A项。
通读全文,根据第二段中“When you travel at high speed, the present means nothing: you live mainly in the future because you spend most of your time looking forward to arriving at some other places. (当你高速旅行时,现在没有任何意义:你主要生活在将来,因为你花费大部分时间期待着到达其他地方。)”和最后一段中“The traveler on foot, on the other hand, lives constantly in the present. (另一方面,徒步旅行者总是生活在现在。)”以及“Satisfying sleep will be his: the just reward of all true travelers. (他将得到令人满意的睡眠:这是对所有真正旅行者的酬报。)”可知,本文比较了两种旅行的方式,批评了高速旅行剥夺了人们体验享受旅行的机会,而徒步旅行才能真正体会旅行的意义,才是真正的旅行。选项B“真正的旅行”突出主题,适合做标题。故选B项。
第一节:阅读表达(共5小题:每小题2分,满分 10分)
阅读下面的短文,并根据短文内容回答后面的问题。
Most people agree that honesty is a good thing. But does Mother Nature agree Animals can't talk, but can they lie in other ways Can they lie with their bodies and behavior Animal experts may not call it lying, but they do agree that many animals, from birds to chimpanzees, behave dishonestly to fool other animals. Why Dishonesty often helps them survive.
Many kinds of birds are very successful at fooling other animals. For example, a bird called the plover sometimes pretends to be hurt in order to protect its young. When a predator(猎食动物)gets close to its nest, the plover leads the predator away from the nest. How It pretends to have a broken wing. The predator follows the "hurt" adult, leaving the baby birds safe in the nest.
Another kind of bird, the scrub jay, buries its food so it always has something to eat. Scrub jays are also thieves. They watch where others bury their food and steal it. But clever scrub jays seem to know when a thief is watching them. So they go back later, unbury the food, and bury it again somewhere else. Birds called cuckoos have found a way to have babies without doing much work. How They don't make nests. Instead, they get into other birds' nests secretly. Then they lay their eggs and fly away. When the baby birds come out, their adoptive parents feed them.
Chimpanzees, or chimps, can also be sneaky. After a fight, the losing chimp will give its hand to the other. When the winning chimp puts out its hand, too, the chimps are friendly again. But an animal expert once saw a losing chimp take the winner's hand and start fighting again.
Chimps are dishonest in other ways, too. When chimps find food that they love, such as bananas, it is natural for them to cry out. Then other chimps come running. But some clever chimps learn to cry very softly when they find food. That way, other chimps don't hear them, and they don't need to share their food.
As children, many of us learn the saying "You can't fool Mother Nature." But maybe you can't trust her, either.

57. How does a plover deal with it when a predator approaches its nest (no more than 15 words)
58. Who often feed cuckoos' baby birds (no more than 3 words)
59. What does the underlined word in paragraph 4 mean (no more than 1 word)
60. What kind of animal do you like best And why (no more than 20 words)
56. Because dishonesty often helps them survive. ##To help them survive.
57. It pretends to have a broken wing and leads the predator away. ##It leads the predator away by pretending to have a broken wing.
58. Their adoptive parents.

41. The professor was admired because ________ .
A. he was very intelligent B. he had noble personalities
C. he had won many honors D. he was very determined
42. The underlined word "attitude" in Paragraph 3 refers to the students’ ________ .

A. was still very confident B. was suffering from great pain
C. still cared for others D. didn't know he would die soon
44. Of the following statements, the author may agree that ________
A the professor loves his job very much
B. the professor often feels sorry for himself
C. the professor will go back to teach this summer
D. few students supported the author's decision at first
45. What did the author learn from his visit to the professor last week
A. One should remain optimistic all the time.
B. It is never too late to make a right decision.
C. It is important to let people know about their importance.
D. Teachers should have a positive influence on their students.

For instance: Lawyers have to study and learn every established law on heir(继承人)specific branches. Sometimes the law changes according to people's needs. A good lawyer has to be informed with the latest news in the court. A doctor has to be informed of the latest advances in medicine.

Studies have confirmed that reading to your unborn child is very good. This way your child will develop a passion for reading later on.
How do you develop a passion for reading There is only one way you can boost your passion for reading. Let me explain this to you. If you want to learn how to ride a bike, you have to get on the bike as many times as possible until you have learned. It works the same way with reading. If you want to boost your reading, take a book and read it all the way through. When you finish reading your first book, take another book and do the same. Try to read as much as you can. If you are going out, grab a magazine, a book, an article or something to read.
