James Armour, aged 25, has become the first person to run, swim and cycle the length of the Outer Hebrides. The Outer Hebrides are a chain of distant islands on the northwest coast of Scotland. Armour swam 20 miles, ran 52 miles and cycled 112 miles. It took him 52 hours and 52 minutes to complete the challenge. He named the route “the Selkie” referring to mythological seals that are said to turn into humans when they reach land.
The Selkie started at the Barra Head Lighthouse on the island of Barra, the most southerly point on the route, Amouron the route. Amour worked his way over land and sea to the Butt of Lewis Lighthouse, the furthest point north in the Outer Hebrides.
Armour said in a social media post that the reality on the ground was not what he’d been expecting. He said that a quarter of the running was over rock and low wild plants.
The swims were made harder by the tide turning pushing him away from his destination. Armour also suffered from terrible seasickness which meant that he was unable to eat even when he was on land.
Armour, from Edinburgh, has raised more than 14,000 so far for the Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust, a charity that protects whales and dolphins around the Hebrides. These sea creatures face many threats, including warming seas. Through the race, Armour said he hoped to raise money, share the beauty of these islands and encourage all of us to connect with nature.

I try not to get into the habit of telling my kids they’re smart.
This habit doesn't mean that I think they have low intelligence. It's just because praising their talent can strengthen the idea that natural ability is all that matters.
In a study of Carol Dweck, a Stanford psychologist, kids who were told they were smart were more likely to rely on their intelligence and ignore the importance of effort. They were always keeping up being "smart” rather than trying to learn new skills. However, the kids who were told that they were doing well because they worked hard were more likely to take risks and try increasingly difficult problems. When they made mistakes, they worked hard to learn from them.
So it is not praise that's the problem; it's praise for the wrong thing. If your kids think their rare intelligence is something they're born with, then they will rely on it. When that happens, they expect to “get it" easily and then they don't “work for it". If they fail to develop the habit of hard work by developing their intelligence, then their accomplishments will be severely lessened.
After we realize the importance of using words around work, we must apply the lesson practical must have a bit of a script with our words to retrain ourselves to confirm effort over intelligence.
Every word and action is sending your child a message. Describe the effort, attitude and strategies your child is using, not just the achievement. Using this "descriptive praise” gives children daily appreciation and approval. You can add negative comments to praise. The magic ratio is five positive comments for every negative.
4. The passage is possibly written for ____.
A. teenagers B. teachers C. parents D. researchers
5. What does the underlined word "that" in paragraph 4 refer to
A. Praising children. B. Children's intelligence
C. Depending on intelligence D. Developing a good habit.
6. What is the best tile for the passage
A. Stop Praising Your Children! B. How to Praise Your Children
C. My Ways to Raise Children D. Descriptive Praise

Australians could soon be 3D printing entire meals in what could be the biggest cooking advance since microwave ovens.
Researchers want to bring the taste of popular foods to life through 3D printers-and even help people tailor their diets to improve their health at the same time.
Mums and dads with fond memories of watching cartoon space family The Jetsons might soon be making space-age dishes for real, with the developers suggesting ready-to-eat meals and individual ingredients could be available in households shops and restaurants in as little as four years.
Our cars still don't fly, but The Jetsons cartoon that was around when some parents were kids had creators who imagined all sorts of crazy possibilities for food in the future-concepts that do not seem so crazy now that 3D-printed food is here.
Hearty Adventures in Food and Play research lab director Dr Rohit Ashok Khot said the technology needed to make printing food would revolutionize shopping and eating habits in a way not seen since the microwave oven became a common household appliance.
“Food printing, I think, has lots of potential for our future mainly because of the way it can connect digital with physical," Dr Khot said. "The last major invention that happened around cooking was microwaves, which was around the 1970s, so after that there hasn't been anything that has actually caught the mainstream attention. Printing can change that, because it can allow us to then make and design food digitally."
The new machine could even low ingredients to be mixed, printed and baked in the one machine, according to Monash Food Innovation design manager Adam Norris. “Businesses are looking at new ways to provide a unique experience and product, " Mr. Norris said. “We've realized everybody's needs are different. Why not create the food to fit you "
Dr Khot said painting foods could also help by giving restaurants and cafes a new service to offer customers while reducing the amount of packaging used to sell meals and ingredients.
7. What will be a reality soon for mum and dads
A. Driving flying cars. B. Meeting the Jetsons.
C. Cooking space-age foods. D. Watching cartoon in space.
8. Which word best describes the producers of The Jetsons
A. Creative. B. Energetic. C. Intelligent. D. Adventurous.
9. What do we learn about the future printing foods
A. They will lack ingredients B. They will increase diversity.
C. They will be much cheaper. D. They will be much healthier.
10. What did Dr Khot and Mr Norris have in common about the printing foods
A. They voiced their concern. B. They expressed their doubt.
C. They showed their curiosity. D. They expressed their support.

That was why I had never gone into a swimming pool until swimming became a school requirement. That was why I had never gone into a swimming pool until swimming became a school requirement. My school wanted all pupils to pass a swimming test, and if they could not, then they would have to attend weekly swimming lessons in school, which sent fright down my spine. Thus, my parents signed me up for swimming lessons at the pool near my house. I had to attend those weekly lessons, and each one was great torture (折磨) for me. I was naturally awkward, and my fear of water did not help at all. Every lesson, I would be spending my time thrashing (拍打) about in the water while my classmates and would be swimming countless laps effortlessly. How was I going to pass the test at this rate I was discouraged. In my swimming class, there was an exceptionally athlete girl. Her name was Kathy. She was the best swimmer in our class and always looked at me with disdain (鄙视). Once, after a particularly long and arduous swimming lesson, I spotted Kathy swimming gracefully in the pool. Mustering my courage, I asked meekly (温顺地), “Kathy, can you teach me swimming ” She stared at me coldly, and I thought she was going to refuse my request.
To my surprise, she nodded after a few moments of silence.

I tried again and this time was a little better than last time. As time goes by, I made great progress.
Paragraph2: Four months flew past and it was time for me to take my test. I felt nervous and scared. But when I thought of her trust in me, I had courage and confidence.
