作文:
Nowadays there is a widespread concern over the news that the college entrance
examination will be carried out several times a year in the future.
Some people think this is a good idea. They think this policy will be an important
reform of the college enrollment system. It will offer the students more chances to
show their true level. In addition, it will reduce the students’ pressure on the college
entrance examination.
On the other hand, some people are against this new policy. Firstly, they are
worried that several examinations in a year will not really reduce the pressure on
students, and instead it may add to their burden. Secondly, in order to prepare for
several examinations the teachers will have to make adjustments to the reaching
arrangements.
As far as I am concerned, it is worth trying but we should try one or two subjects
at first.

People across Western Europe are experiencing a heat wave this week, with the worst still
to come on Thursday. Officials sounded high-temperature health warnings on Wednesday,
mindful that some heat waves before had caused thousands of deaths across an area where
people are not used to such weather and few homes have air conditioning.
Today some American Indian languages are usually spoken by the older members of the
tribes who still live on the reservations. In North America there are 150-170 languages that
have at least one speaker. One ancient language spoken by the Northern Paiute tribe has over
100 speakers.
Rene Pierron, 51, a street cleaner at Paris City Hall, was not lucky, and said it was
difficult to work outdoors under such conditions. “The buildings and roads here take the heat
in during the day and act like radiators (散热器) — it's unbearable,” he said while taking a
break near the Avenue des Champs-Elysees.
But the good news is that some of these people are keeping their culture and language
alive. They are also receiving help from the National Geographic Society’s Enduring Voices
project, whose aim is to help languages around the world which are dying out. The team
meets these “last speakers”. The experts interview them and they are recorded with video,
pictures and so on. They also tell old stories which are written down in English so people can
learn more about the cultures.
Kate Simmonds, also 51, who works in a restaurant in central London, could commiserate
(同情).“It's so hot—we can’t work like this,” she said on Wednesday. But she said business
was good this week, with plenty of people buying cold drinks and ice cream.
Recording the language and culture is only part of the project. The next stage is to pass on
the language to the next generation. The Salish tribe is an excellent example of how schools
can help. The tribe lives on the Flathead Indian Reservation in Montana. Their language is
spoken by about 50 people aged over 75. So now, the local people have set up a school. It has
30 students aged two to twelve during the day and there are also courses for adults in the
evening.
Nation after nation have given health-related warning for people becoming tired and
weak in the heat. Belgium gave its highest warning since its weather warning system was put
in place 20 years ago, and Germany placed the whole country under a heat warning.
Britain's weather service, the Met Office, placed five of England’s nine areas, including
London, on a “Level Three” heat health watch, one level short of a national emergency.
第 5页(共 12页)
第 6页(共 12页)
Liz Bentley, the chief executive of Britain’s Royal Meteorological Society, warned:
“While a country like Britain is not used to heat waves, they could become more common
because of the changing climate. If you live in a Mediterranean(地中海) country, the
population adapts to these temperatures. But we’ll see the number of deaths go up in the next
coming days.”
32.____________Sure, you and your friends probably have some similar interests, but
that’s not always the case. In an effort to keep everyone happy, go over travel plans and
expectations ahead of time. Have each person categorize(分类)activities or sights into
“must-see” “want to see” and “would go if we have time”. Plan accordingly and make sure
everyone can see some of their top attractions.
27. What did Rene Pierron think of the weather
Communicate and respect each other. Everyone has personal preferences when
travelling—from getting the bed closest to the bathroom or sitting in the airplane’s window
seat. But sometimes things don’t go as you like. In this case, share your requirements directly
